Title: 0020 Fixed!

I had a xbox 360 with the 3 red lights and 0020 code. All i did was use the heat gun on it and it works!! omfg! so in your error code listings, where you have 0020 ( unknown error possibly overheating ) Change to overheating. mine is working fine  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

most the time heat gun trick is jsut temp so my guess is that it will overheat again so dont get too upset when it does,  lets hope it doesnt tho.

yea, lol my fingers are crossed! lol i dont think it will last longer than a week or 2...if you would have never opened your case, you could have called 18004myxbox and they will replace it for free...they gave everyone that got 360's manufactured in 2005 an extra one year warranty!

You used more heat on it and want it changed to overheating, that makes sense.

Enjoy it while it lasts, 0020 and 0102 usually go hand in hand. Now ya have it going again replacing the X-clamps would be a good step to keeping it going.

Why is that? whats wrong with the x clamps? and where can i buy new ones?

please read there for replacement of xclamps the xclamps casue the bored to flex when it get hot cause the cold welding for the chips to break away giving the 3rlod of death all u do is replace the xclamps with bolts so it won't flex or flex very little

I did fix the error 0020 as well, However i fixed it using the "Eraser Fix" i thought it wouldn't work but yes it did and it's real. I will be posting all the pictures and the steps on how to do it. So far it has no problems (4 days now playing about 4 to 6 hours daily.) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

If simply replacing the x-clamps does not fix error code 0020, there is only one more logical thing I could recommend, noticed how I say I, because I could be wrong there could be other ways too. To get to the point if after replacing the x-clamps you still error 0020 try placing thermal pads or AS5 to the 4 RAM chips on the bottom of the motherboard(bottom of the motherboard directly under the GPU). DO the same for the 2 RAM chips next to the GPU(ones that are also covered by the GPU heatsink).

I got the rrod after about 1 year.
The error code says 0020.
This is my 2nd xbox, the first lasted about 6 days.
Since i have this one flashed, i don't have any warranty.
So i decided to read up on the 0020 error, and as with most errors
id had to do with the x clamp on the gpu unit.
I fixed it myself!!
Thanx to youtube, i found 2 video's on how to remove the x clamp and replace it
with nothing more than bolts! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fM4TEIZqOso

After replacing the x clamp, i had to 'bake' the solder back together.

Please note that i didn't use the exact same parts used in the video.
Between the heatsink and the mainboard are only plastic/nylon washers.
I had to use them without spring washers, because i got pretty thick nylon washers,
that had about the same thickness as the original bolts.
On the other side, i used m5 bolts with external hexagon heads, with only
spring washers between them.

Booted up, and worked like a charm.
Ofcourse, i cannot say how long it will last, but for now it's working.

I cannot take credit for this method, however i have proven this method to work!

I didn't make any photo's of the dissassembly, because i was too nerveaus if it would work.
I am a complete newbie at this, yet i got it to work.
