Hello Peeps

Please could someone point me in the right direction setting up scrolling news in XBMC 06-19-04 build? I have gathered that I need Python Scripts but am not clear on what to do with them and can't find much info on achieving this.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks
Al

no python script is needed, just be sure that your XBOX can get out to the internet, and the skin you are using has the RSS feed
here's the configuration i have:

Cable modem is pugged into USB (NIC 1)
XBOX is plugged into my network card (NIC 2)

And this a tutorial that helped me troubleshoot http://www.x-scene.com/articles/network-2-cards.php

Thanks for the reply! No script is needed? I thought I had to have the RssNews script. My xbox can get out to internet, got weather, kai, xblive, streaming all sorted but no news

But no news is good news

I'm using the latest Project Mayhem skin, wonder why that doesn't have the RSS feed?

Best go find some more skins!

/me guesses firewall blocking it.

The rss feed has been in the PM skin for along time now.

Check pinned topic for a tutorial on how to change it :)

Very peculiar, I can't see an rss feed. Everything else web related I can get no problem though! Its not my firewall, I checked that. There is no reference to rss in the XboxMediaCenter.xml  :uhh:

I won't be rude but I will tell you that I have read and understood exactly what has been said to me!

Pinned topic found, advice followed, positions changed, feed changed, reverted to default, no joy.

I thought there might be some reference to rss feeds in XboxMediaCenter.xml

I hope you will follow the thread this time...

If you do not get the feed you are eiter:

1: Using a old build. (But as you have the rss feed in the home.xml you are likly not)

or

2: Having network/firewall/router problems.

Well the home.xml is from the latest Project Mayhem Skin which I added to the skin folder of my XBMC 06-19-04 build.

I am using ICS with no other network issues. Ho hum I'll get there in the end! I was about to try another skin from allxboxskins but can't download cos like me its going round in circles

Thanks for your help

I was having the same problem as you. I was able to get weather, streams and all that good stuff but no news. After I loaded XBMC I checked the log file and noticed that I was getting an error when trying to access the internet.  I manually configured the network settings in the xboxmediacenter.xml and everything works great. Even the mail script works now.

2: Having network/firewall/router problems.

Yes I was having network problems. itsame I did what you suggest yesterday except I changed my static network settings to dhcp in xboxmediacenter.xml and now the feeds work. When static, my settings were:

IP 192.168.0.3
Gateway 255.255.255.0
DNS 0.0.0.0

and that worked fine for all but feeds and some video streams, but best of all for ftp.

Thanks again!

your problem when your ip was static was you didnt have the dns servers setup.  so expecting an IP your xbox get http://www.... and is like WTF :uhh: .   if get your dns info (ipconfig /all) and type it into xboxmediacenter.xml, all should work fine. :)
