-samsung
-hitachi
-philips

?

btw I think my Pioneer DVR-108XL (with hacked firmware found here: http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=32722) only can burn DVD+R DL

Samsung - Verbatim, Ritek, Memorex - These worked for me
Hitachi - Verbatim - These are highly recommended for this type of drive.
Philips - None

ive used purple top traxdata wich burn at a speedy 8x in my pioneer 110 for my hitachi with no problems
ive also used infiniti professional  and would say these discs are flawlass
at the moment im going through a 25 spindle of infiniti 360 discs ive had 2 coasters out of 18 not bad at £23 inc p&p im confident ill make it through the others without any problems as the 2 i lost were possibly due to a bad image

Can Philips not read any DVD+R DL?
is it a bad drive or what?

It's just that Philips has no firmware out currently.

check the compatability lists in the backup section for discs that work with your drive.

nobody has any problems with verbs, and jester along with others swear by them, and ive used them with no issues, and they are comparable in price to any other brand if you know where to look.

Some people have success with other discs as well, so its up to you really. My issue is that if you use a cheaper media, you odnt know how long your backup will work before the dreaded dirty disc error.
