Title: External Hard Drives
Post by: lilpaul on November 28, 2006, 09:09:00 AM
Im thinking of buying a Freecom Classic SL, external usd 2 / network hard drive.

Basically i want to plug it into my xbox via usb and use it with my pc over my network.

Mainly im going to use it as a music store.

I have a few questions though:-

1.) Is this compatible with the xbox360
2.) What files can i read / play from it - i.e mpeg / mp3 etc
3.) Can the mp3's be used from within games from this device
4.) Is there a size limit the xbox360 can read (Looking at getting the 500gb model)

Any help would be appreciated

llama.com has a real good tutorial on how to kind of do what you want.

http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/mods/USB%20H...Drive%20Mod.htm

from what i got from the article, you will need partition magic or some other program to format the drive in fat32 at large capacities.  i am currently in the middle of the same project; i am using an internal 160gb sata seagate ($30 from compusa) and pairing it with a rosewill external enclosure. i will post again once i get everything figured out.

i tryed that and it didnt work with my 360. then i got bored on my mac and re-formatted it to MS-DOS (fat32) and now it works with my 360, so i have 160GB for my music now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) yay.
so if u can get hold of a mac for a few mins and reformat it to MS-DOS then thats what i found best (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
