Title: Somehow Lost Dolby Digital 5.1 Output
Post by: phil44 on September 15, 2006, 10:50:00 AM
Dont know if anyone can help but my 360 seems to have gone screwy with outputting digital 5.1 sound.

All was fine yesterday, went to watch a miami vice telecine via dvd (people have reported it to have bad sound) and it sounded like crap, switched it off an thougt nothing of it.

Come to today I tried to play dead rising and nothing but a bass rumble from the speakers, its not the amp but it is the 360.

If I switch to digital stereo in the dash its ok but once I put it to digital 5.1 nothing but faint rumbles.

Funny thing is the narnia video I downloaded from market place is fine but games/dvds and even the noises that you hear when flicking through the blades and the options on the dash are all completey screwed or none existent.

No idea if somehow the dvd with the manky audio could have caused this?

I am completely lost and its nothing to do with wires or amps etc.

Any ideas?

Can I hard reset the 360 to defaults incase the bad dvd has caused a flipout somehow?

Cheers.

Are you sure your receiver hasn't screwed-up?  I had that problem, somehow my 7.1 receiver'd digital inputs got scrambled and I got a bunch of noise through the digital channel.  I took it to a good shop and they cleaned it up, got the decoding software square, and all has been great since.
Just a thought.

Mate you were right it was the amp, (after me claiming it wasn't DOH!), its pretty fancy and a bit technical to set up and I had somehow disabled the front L+R channels(no idea how as I never went near any kind of settings) thus screwing up any output sound for the dash etc

all sorted now and apologies for bieng a cocksure div!

Thanks anyway.
