Title: Can't Get Wired Controller To Work On Pc
Post by: iforgotmypassword on September 10, 2006, 02:41:00 AM
Hi,

Sorry, didn't know where else I could post this.

Anyway, as the topic title says, I can't get my Xbox 360 wired controller to work on my PC (Windows XP, Service Pack 2). I don't think it's a hardware problem, because it works perfectly with my console, and it worked perfectly on my friend's PC before he messed around with the drivers.

I'm almost certain that my problem stems from the fact that the XInput driver (Microsoft_Common_Controller_32bit.exe) won't install. When I double click on it, it extracts but then all I get is an 'installation did not complete' error. Has anyone else experienced this? I've got the Xbox 360 controller software suite installed (XBOX360Eng.exe), and I've also tried XBCD.

When I first tried to install the 'pad after installing the software, Windows would detect it as a Xbox 360 controller, and the lights on the controller would momentarily flash, but it'd then claim that there were no drivers installed.

For some reason, Windows now detects it as a unknown device (lights still flash) and says that it's failed to initialize (my motherboard has full USB 2.0 support), once again claiming that there are no drivers installed.

It's kind of hard to explain, so I hope I haven't lost you guys here. Please, if any of you could help me out, I'd be extremely grateful. I've been messing around with this freaking 'pad for so long, and I can't find any similar threads on the net.

Thanks. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Oh, and Microsoft's technical support is freakin' useless (who would've thought?). (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
