Title: Replacing Motherboard
Post by: ups800 on August 11, 2006, 05:53:00 AM
My Son's 360 died.  We bought a new motherboard and the seller of the board supplied two files,
a "key.bin" and a "firmware.bin".  The console has a Hitachi dvd.  We were told we needed the "key" to
get the mobo and the dvd to agree with each other.    Is there a post or suggestion to use these two files
to get it working?   Any posts would be helpful.

I need a few more details, did you buy a new mobo/DVD drive combo? Because if you did then you should be able to use both without doing anything, but if its just the motherboard you'll need to patch the DVD key (the one he should have given you) onto your old DVD drive. Now i dont know much about it, as i havn't yet found time or interest into playing with the firmware. But if hes given you the original DVd firmware and your DVD drive is different to the original (even though there are currently two makes, there are plenty of hitachi models) then putting the wrong firmware on it could possibly brick it.

He's bought only the mobo. that's why the seller supplied the key.bin and such.
