Title: Aftermarket Drive Question
Post by: tipmen999 on July 09, 2006, 04:39:00 PM
Is it possible to purchase a Toshiba/Samsung drive from somewhere like Newegg or TigerDirect, NOT FOR USE IN THE XBOX, but to be flashed with the Samsung 0800 firmware? Someone posted a link to a site that was selling them. How, and would this be posssible?

I have not heard of anything like this, so I probably doubt it.

I haven't looked in a while, but does T/S even sell a slim DVD-ROM drive with SATA interface to the general public?

Then, if they did, there would be this issue of whether or not they had the same microcontroller, and even still, the firmware would have to be completely rewritten to compensate or any hardware differences.

We just got lucky with the Xbox 1 samsung drive and the 616T, i doubt we will be seeing that again anytime soon
