Yep sounds like the GPU is either rooted or overheating. Off to M$ your 360 will go.... dry.gif

Unless if youve opened it up and voided your warrenty, you should just remove the foil from the GPU heatsink and put some Arctic Silver 5 on there.

Yeah mine has just started to do the same thing, it's fine until the game finishes loading then I get the exact same thing. Mine's going back to MS on Mon/Tue. Then I'll be on my third 360, great!

Yeah it sucks, mine's a launch machine mate so have had it for 6 months with no probs. I think it's something to do with the overheating which has damaged the GPU. But I haven't got any red rings on it. Anyway in the UK our warranty is 12 mths so it's going back hopefully tomorrow. They said they'll try and reset my warranty (to 12 more mths) when I get my replacement since this is the second time I've had it replaced (first one didn't work straight out of the box).

Fair enough. although I'd try your luck with MS first to ensure they won't repair it for free. Just get mad down the phone, you'd be surprised where it'll get you.

Mine made the same graphical errors, Hopefully yours is savable but this is what mine did before it died. It started freezing like that and the time it took it to freeze just got shorter with every power on until it just gave me the ring of death. Honestly I would call MS, they might fix it for free even past the warranty.

Quite a few people. Those with memory overheating, obviously cooling the GPU only helps marginally. Here is a thread with the answers you were looking for...in the same forums just a few topics up. Not that hard to find. http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=522438

Mine does the same thing. I've been looking for the fan speed controller as well. I did find 2 different spots on the board that cause the fans to speed up if you place your finger on either one of them for a few seconds while the system is on. One spot is in front of the GPU fan. ::: If you hold your finger on that one spot long enough the fans will speed up very quickly and then 2 red lights will flash and the system will shut down. The fans will still be running for a second or two and continue flashing the 2 red lights. Once the fans stop on their own you can then hit the power button to turn off the flashing lights. The other spot on the board is down in front of Memory Slot A right next to the little yellow ring with the wire wrapped around it. The spot to place your finger on is right underneath that on the bottomside of the board. It is just a little spot though. That spot will speed the fans up but will not cause any flashing lights or anything. Also I noticed that for me if I turn the 360 on from a cold start and it will not boot and just flashes 3 red lights. If I leave it on and flashing for about 20 to 45 minutes then restart it. It will sometimes boot but it will crash shortly afterwards. Weird.

Do the 12v mod. This way you know it's working at the highest setting....

My NTSC 360 has just developed the same problem after 6 months of use.

No red lights but freezes after very little use, usually with graphical glitches on the screen.  This happens with or without the h.d.d..  Machine is out of warranty and MS want $200 AUS to fix it, plus I have to ship it to them at a cost to me.  Funny that they can quote and charge me this amount before they even know what is wrong with it.

Oh, I'm sure they already know what's wrong with it. If it hasn't flashed any lights at you yet, give it time it will. Also, the money they are charging to fix the 360 is some of the money they lost when building it and selling it to the consumer for less than what it actually cost them to build it. That's why for alot of us it worked great until after the warranty expired. Knowing that alot of us would not purchase the extended warranty. Gotta make that cash back somehow. Right?

Let's just say it is the fan speed control. If we did the 12v fan mod and made the fans go at that high setting. Wouldn't the motherboard still throw us the flashing lights because it senses the bad fan speed controller and not the actual speed the fans are running at? Just a thought. blink.gif

Try this:

-remove the heatsink on the gpu
-start the 360
-you gonna get a 2 red light blinking if u get a 3 red light blinking wait a little bit u gonna get a 2 red lights (overheating)
-turn off the 360
-replace the heatsink
-turn on the 360
-you should now have the 360 boot logo
-if it doesnt work try to a litlle pression on the heatsink and powerup the 360
