Title: Bought Your 360 A Little Too Early?
Post by: RadATI on April 07, 2006, 10:17:00 PM
Well... I've been changing opinions on how loud my 360 is. Sometimes I think it's soft, sometimes I think it's HELL... I don't know WTH I'm doing (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)  but recently I've compared it to a friend's 360 and his was SO much softer than mine. Really disturbs me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) . I've been thinking of sending it to MS and request a different drive but would they do that?? A bad suggestion given to me was SELF-INFLICT DAMAGE to my 360 to be able to get a new one. Don't plan on doing that... But, I don't plan on sticking with this noisy drive for many years either...  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)  What can I do? Will MS be nice enough to meerly replace a drive?

I have a Samsung drive BTW... Main Idea: Hate my drive, wish I got a 360 later in the year rather than so early...

Make sure you listen to the drive before you buy your PS3 then (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Seriously, get a decent sound system for your room. I fail to understand people who complain about the drive noise.
I never hear the fans, the drive , the postman, ambulances etc etc.
Use the potential of the surround on this thing

Yes, I do have a surround sound system. Dolby 6.1 with 5"+ speakers. I just can't always turn it on loud ya know? Plus, when I'm playing on my computer monitor, the xbox's noise is noticably louder than my PC. I don't want it that loud when I'm playing on my PC monitor at night...

I had the Samsung until it crapped out on me.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)  Just play some DVD's maybe it will come up with "to play this disc put it in a 360 console" message like it did for me.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Exactly.  Mine's perfectly quiet when playing DVDs or Music (can hardly hear it if you mute the sound) but it roars like a bitch when I play games.  The solution?  Turn up the volume!

No, mine is loud whenever the disc drive is spinning.  Even with a DVD.  It's fine when playing demos from the HDD though.

the noise level is directly proportional to the speed the drive is spinning. Older games have no speed control. so games like COD2 make it extremely noisy no matter what while newer games are much less noisy.

Are you sure when you compared it to your friends you used the same game? pop COD2 in both of them and see how it is.

I think the people who complain about the noise the most are those that sit right next to it while playing.

As for me it's about 15' away from me... I can barely hear the thing even with the surround sound off.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

...but when it's on... forget it
5" speakers? try 10 8" woofers in the front drivers alone and an 800Watt 15" sub (IMG:style_emoticons/default/muhaha.gif)
