Title: Wireless Controller On Pc.
Post by: mor911 on November 28, 2005, 03:13:00 PM
I apologize if anyone has posted this prior I did attempt a search and dug around to see if anyone else has done this but I have yet to find anything.

As most of us know the wireless controller with the play and charge kit does not work on the pc even with the drivers provided by MS. I however have gotten the driver installed to work with the wireless controller by simply changing the product id in the xnacc.inf file.

The driver install under the MS Common Controller Class in device manager it reports the device is working properly however in the gamepad menu in the control panel still doesn't regcognize it as a gamepad. Which is the current road block i'm at.

I would like to share the inf along with the driver if anyone would like to try and take this any further. Unfortunately I have no place to host these files so I will have to send them directly to you.

Thanks for reading

The redcl0ud link I think is for the Xbox 360 Wired Controller for Windows. I don't believe it is trying to do the same thing this thread may have been. But it did shed some light on why this may be impossible. The wireless controller is not 'on' by default. And so does not send any information until it has sucessfully paired with a 360. Because of this, you can't use it to play games. They mentioned M$ is possibly going to make a wireless adapter for the PC to eventually solve this problem. I don't think it'll be on the market until Vista rolls around though, and it was the first time I had heard of such a product. It would be nice though, I would love to use the 360 controller for PC gaming as well (Yea, I'm anti-keyboard+mouse, lol). Anyway, guess the only hope is to either get a Wired controller (although the redcl0ud place said the M$ drivers just plain suck).

But who knows, maybe someone will find a work around  biggrin.gif

wait im confused. are you saying that you got your xbox 360 wireless controller to be recognized in windows when u used the play and charge kit??

i was under the impression that the play and charge kit ONLY charged the controller, and did not send gaming signals. (as i read in the xbox 360 manual it explains that the wirelss controller ALWAYS communicates with the 360 by means of RF, and that is why if your battery is totally dead you may have to wait up to 20 minutes after plugging in the play and charge kit to juice the battery enough to send the wirelss signals, and therefore play)

if you could clarify it would be appreciated.

Yes, it shows up in windows XP as a unknown USB Device

I also heard that the wireless controller only transmits thru RF. I think that when you plug in the play and charge kit, it only will charge. Windows is probably just detecting that(a closed loop), and not the actual controller.

does anyone know if the 360 controller will work with the original xbox by means of a USB-Xbox adapter cable?  i've looked around but could not find anything.

No, it won't. mor911, can the controller now work with say, Halo PC? And if so, can you please provide steps into making it work?
