I was thinking.. I bet this 3 flashing red light internal hardware problem is pretty easy to fix. Probably a faulty resistor or something that the power supply screws up. I bet if someone were to open their defective (3 red light) Xbox they would find the problem and be able to fix it pretty easily.

The power supply is contained inside that brick, not inside the 360 itself, if I recall.

Right, but I'm saying the power supply broke something inside the Xbox itself.

I've opened mine and couldnt see anything blown or out of ordinary.

Are you serious? Are you capable of posting high resolution detailed shots of the motherboard? We can use all the help we can get.

I just had it back at the retailer and had a friend who works there bring in his power supply unit for the xbox360 and mine worked fine. Definately something isolated inside of the power supply unit.

Your definantly correct. A lot of people (and I mean alot) who were having problems used another persons power supply unit on there 360 and everything worked fine. Sadly I don't think Micrsoft would replace them if there faulty. It would take alot more like houses burning down...

I just got off the phone with MS and they wont replace just the cable/brick. They wanted the console (just the console). After rexeplaining everything (that it worked fine with someone else's brick) The rep put me on hold and got back on asking for console and power unit. (they wont touch my xbox as i opened it
) So i declined. Seems they absolutely refuse to believe that just the power unit could be the problem as their initial response is to take the console away
I called Circuit City and their Customer Service Manager called 18004MYXBOX and explained my situation to them. She got them to ok just the power supply unit to be sent to me!
The customer service manager called me back and gave me the confirmation number and told me i should have it in a few days. YAY Circuit City
Now that i have a new power supply unit on its way, anyone know how to open the power brick up? I wanna see if theirs something messed up in there

if its a faulty psu, hammer, or more realisticly just take a butter knife and pry open
-
the solution is alot easier than that. the psu is over heating. so if you tie string to hang the psu up so air can get to it from all sides i bet it will work
-
its not overheating... ive moved it hung it, left it off for hours (even a day once) and nothing ever comes on cept green for a millisec, red for a millisec, then orange... not even enough power goes to the xbox 360 to turn the fans on for more than a sec. the power supply unit, in my case, simply does not work... about opening it, i may find a butter knife soon (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Careful, PSU's are dangerous. Even if they've been left off for a while, they can still hold a charge.

This is true, to circumvent it, unplug the psu from the wall but leave plugged into the console, then press the power button to discharge the caps in the psu, and you should be alright.
