I would think that IF the adapter was approved then it could "spoof" whatever is hooked up to it to be approved... might be wrong but that seems plausable.
According to IGN they think they will work, but not without some adapter.

The security chip that checks for the chip in the accessory is going to be built into the xbox360 motherboard, and I'm sure that checking will be hardware controlled, not bios/software controlled, so it will be extremely hard to bypass.
I just thought of something else... Each time an an accessory is plugged in, at least that one will be checked for the sucurity chip, but it might also check all the others too.
