Title: Xbox 1 Backwards Compatiblity Question
Post by: sv2 on July 28, 2005, 04:48:00 PM
Will we still be able to download the DLC from our xbox 1 game to our 360 hard drive ?

Ie - Splinter cell 1 bonus  levels onto your 360.

and will we still be able to use custom soundtracks for the xbox 1 games ? i know you can have mp3s on your 360, but maybe it uses a new coding system so it cant work with xbox 1 custom soundtracks...

It would be my guess that we'd have to wait and see the extent to which the xbox 360 will be backwards compatible.  It seems plausible that if the machine were to be backwards compatible with all games, it would also be compatible with your saved content from all of your games (that isn't taking into account the act of getting the content to the new console from the old).  Another of those "wait and see" topics. MS want's to stifle the hacking community, not their loyal customers.  From a business standpoint, it would be in MS's best interest to make the transition from console to console as seamless as possible.

Well MS could release a disc for the Xbox that transfers of all saved data on the HD to the X360 over the network or through a crossover cable, just a thought dry.gif

I'd imagine they'd allow you to redownload content you've already paid for.

Is probably like this , MP3 is only compatible while in Media Center mode , over ethernet , internet , Mp3 player in USB , but WMA is made when you transfer them to the HD.

i wonder if theyll include the xbox 1 downloadable content...lol that would leave you with what...enough room for about 2 saves...

and didnt they say the xbox live for xbox and the 360 will be the same...like if there is 1 person playing a game on his xbox and somone else is playin the same game on the 360 they can still play together...anyone get what im sayin...so im gonna say you can still download the content...

or maybe they will make you upgrade the hdd...and on the hdd you will get all the downloadable content and be able to continue to download content for the xbox games.

It's the same service on the same servers. Same servers = same content. I don't know why you guys are working yourselves up over it.
There is a different version, the newer version, which is being made for Xbox360. It is still the same service, though. Someone on Xbox1 could go to the downloadables section and see PerfectDarkZero maps, but won't be able to download it clearly becase he is on an xbox1 and is running an earlier version of xboxlive.

Hmm, if I were MS I would make an "Upgrade Kit" that would have a system link (crossover) cable, and a disc to pop into your xbox.  You just hook the two together, pop in the disc, and press a transfer all saves/content button.  OoOh watch the bar fill to 100%.  And now your 360 has all your saves from your XBox.  No Live connection needed.  With the added bonus of MS getting to charge $19.99 MSRP for such a concoction.

X360 HD is bigger , plus i heard that the dashboard is only 3MB and is not on the HD since the XBox360 can function without it , think of it as a big Memory Card , and yes you will be able to download content for XBox 1 compatible games.

in an issue of OXM, j allard confirmed you would not be able to transfer files from xbox1 to the 360.  and i do believe you should still be able to have downloadable content with old xbox games on the 360, as it should be just like playing on an xbox when a game is in the 360.  other then transferring the soundtrack i hardly care about the BC issues.  i know once i feast my eyes on my 360 games, it will be very very hard to go back a generation.

i know its bigger...but all of the downloadable content for every game on xbox live...i mean i know there will be space left over, but if your also going to be downloading content for xbox 360 games for free if you have broadband...your going to run out of space quick...
