Title: Overclocking The Xbox Gpu
Post by: SkateorDie on July 13, 2005, 03:54:00 PM
ckeak the news

"This is the final clock speed of the chip, but we learned that this 90 nanometre chip could work at higher rates. If boffins find a way, there will be headroom for overclocking the graphics element of the Xbox 360 subsystem."

This will be interesting to see what we cna come up with once we get acess to the hardware.

Overclocking won't produce much of a change that makes the risk worth it.  There may be a maximum 5 frame increase.  Not really worth it if games are already running at 55-60 fps, the human eye can't tell the difference.

Actually, no one needs it, because there are no games written to use the extra 64MB.  All games are written for stock 64MB RAM XBOXs.

It is great for Linux, but then again, they got Linux to run on an iPod, so by no means does it NEED even 32MB of RAM.

developers may use it later on.  i've heard rumurs that stuff like prince of persia sands of time had to overclock the ps2 slightly to run.  I think that once it is 2008/2009 then the developers may need to "5" fps more.  iono tho becuase it will be hard to know the max that every console will suport  some may only be ablt to run 15mhz over stock   others  60mhz   especialy in later producton life
