Title: Weather Problems :(
Post by: _Belial on May 27, 2004, 09:07:00 AM
Hi all,

I'm trying to get xbmc to accept the weather code for my area, i've found the code fine from weather.com

http://uk.weather.com/weather/local/UKXX0396

that's all fine, but when I go to settings..weather in xbmc and enter UKXX0396 in the search box and click Done, nothing comes up, if i back up and then try to go to weather page it kinda hangs there, i's doing something as I can hear the H/D writng but nothing on screen and certainly not the right page.

I've tried searching for town name but nothing comes up, other town names work fine so it's not my internet connection. And ifi pick one of the other town names they work fine on the main page?

Where are the weather setting for xbmc stored too? Cant seem to find anyuthing in the xml?

Thanks  <

You should search for Pwllheli instead of the code. The settings is not stored in the xml file any more. The settings for the weather is stored on E disc but does not matter, just search for you city and it will work  laugh.gif

That was the first thing I tried before I went hunting the code :) no results found :(

Try to search for some thing that must be found e.g. London. It could be a DNS problem, so check the xbmc logs and see what is printed there  <

I found the settings file on my E: drive and inserted the code manually in there, but still no joy, perhaps it just doesn't like my Town :(((

Check the xbmc log and cut and past it here so that we can take a look at it.
BTW does the news feed work?  <

Yep it look like a bug. Try update to latest xbmc. If it is still there you should report the bug on the offical xbmc page.  <

XBMC uses www.weather.com to get the weather and not uk.weather.com. If you search for you town on www.weather.com it will not find it.

BTW I could not recreat the hang ing problem you hade with 2004-05-26 built

thanks for the help softbone, looks like i'll just have to wait and see if they decide to support regional weather.com cities into the weather module on xbmc then :(

um just looking through this post i didn't realise that the weather option could be so specific (been using london which my area is essentially a suburb of) anyway put it in my home town (kingston) and xbmc is completely locking up- i then thought i'd hard code it into the myweather.xml only to not find a myweather.xml in the weather folder.

been through the last 4 or so cvs builds and none them have one either- dunno how this was working properly before (guess cos london was the default one), gonna see if one of the older builds has one, but nothing's changed drastically has it huh.gif

could anyone maybe post the contents of the xml file so i could create one myself unsure.gif

Which build are you using?

There should be no lockup with new builds.

What does xbmc.log show ya?

just stuck the address in firefox and i get

QUOTE

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
<error>
  <err type="2">Invalid location provided.</err>
</error>

so i'm guessing i can't be that specific, got the location code from doing a search on the actual website- guess the rss don't cover as many locations.

not a problem- ok i can get access again to the main screen- i'll change it back to something little less specific

ok tried kingston and now it works- guess i can't be tooo uber specific about my location- not big deal.

So is there no myweather.xml then?

So, you can only use codes from weather.com.

Otherwise, just search for your city in Settings->Weather.  That uses weather.com as well.

But ya, we should return a better error message when using a bad code.

yup tslayer you're right- just went to weather .com, the link _Belial Posted I guess was the uk version which is probably more specific, also probably explains why his didn't work either, from his log seems that hes got the same error code.

My fault should have checked the site version a bit more carefully, oh well i know for next time
