Title: 05-10
Post by: Ecrofirt on May 12, 2004, 05:55:00 PM
So, I found a compiled 05-10 build somewhere. Anyone else try it yet?

How is it in comparison to 05-09? and does it keep the possible OpenDML fix that 05-09 had (according to X-S main site)?  <

I read somewhetre that there is a feature freeze on xbmc right now, only bug fixes for now.  So if you are happy with 2004-05-10 (What exactly does it fix from 05-09??) then there is no need toupgrade.  Personally I haven't found a single glitch in 05-09 like everyone was  whining about.  It only messes up if you go about it ass backwards.  <

What exactly is "ass backwards"?

I copied it over, left it native and tried a few things and ran into all sorts of issues with things that have NOTHING to do with how it's installed. Please explain how my going about it "ass backwards" resulted in music files taking 4 times longer to display as they did under the last official build or how my installinging it "ass backwards" resulted in the sizing feature not being there at all?  <

I was refering primarily to the skinning, TDATA, python and weather issues I've heard so much about.  Wanna describe this music issue?  I primarily watch vids, and I have noticed all builds slowing down as my video file count grew past 200, but nothing build specific.    <

First of all, you would obviously upgrade so you could benefit from the bugs that have been fixed, if they were bugs that affected your use of XBMC.

Second of all, obviously there are other reasons for XBMC to mess up other than installing it "ass backwards" as you call it, otherwise why would the developers put on a feature freeze and only fix "bugs", that apparently don't exist, as long as you don't go about things "ass backwards"....

Umm, not trying to sound like an ass, just kind of returning the favor....
I compile and upgrade my CVS builds once a week... Why??
The more bugs fixed, the more stable of a build I am likely to be running, the better it treats my Xbox and the more enjoyment I can get out of it without thinking something should work, only for it not to....  <

Ok, I was directing that primarily at noobs who post the question directly after a topic on how to solve it.  I personally only upgrade the ones that are relevant to me, and when I do, I install it beside what is stable for me.  I know there are bugs in xbmc, so I use other apps for the buggy stuff.  My point was that it is a pretty damn good app/os all things considered, and that alot of the problems ppl were claiming were really simple setup issues that were well documented already.  <

First, many of us don't live here. We check in sparingly as time permits and often, by then, threads you're talking about have long since scrolled well down the list. Second, if you haven't noticed, the normal Searching capability has rarely been up of late. You get that rather limited Google search now which isn't as good as the standard search feature. And for the record, as I type this, the last post with ANY positive info on getting Weather to work is currently on page 9 and doesn't deal with the issue some are having like the collapse of any Internet connection. However, for many people they only see this as weather not working because they don't use other net features.

So perhaps the noobs would see themselves in more positive light and view you as someone who has no life and has the time to read every post made here. Note, I didn't say that was my view, but just realize that everything is perception and yours isn't the only one.

As far as the music issue, in build 4-19, the 2,000 WMA Lossless audio files I have on the XBOX take about 4 seconds to list whenever the list is called up. In this build that takes 18-22 seconds now. Clearly something had happened.
