Or should I just get an adaptor? If so then do I also need a power connector? I don't really want the drive lying around the way it is without an enclosure but I guess it doesn't really matter if it is cheaper/easier that way.

I have an extra external SATA-USB enclosure for your drive.... I'm also on an iMac.... I can sell it to you for cheap..
