Title: Burn Error (not In The Imgburn Log, But Abgx Dvd Check Crc Error)
Post by: shithappens69 on May 07, 2010, 09:16:00 AM
Hello,
I think I have a problem with my burner and/or laptop.
I have a Compal FL90 notebook.
I use stealth-checked / verified isos only, and the burn process completes successfully (without errors / warnings except Duplex Secure's SPTD).

When I put the disc into my xbox, it works, but after a short while I get the error 'Please clean your disc'.
When I check the dvd with abgx's 'burned dvd' option I get a game crc error at approx. 50% (at the layer break).

I assume it's not Verbatim's fault, but maybe lacking firmware upgrade (if it exists for Compal) or those sptd drivers?

Or maybe Alcohol 120 / Nero software is in conflict with ImgBurn?

Has anyone of you had a similar issue?
Please help, I've wasted enough discs already (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

My friend had the exact same problem. Disks would stop working and abgx gave the CRC error at the 50% mark (layer break). After burning the same ISO using the same media on my desktop, we realized that it was his burner that was giving the problems (firmware upgrades didnt help him). He decided to use his desktop for burning back ups and replaced his 8 year old burner with a  new LiteOn iHAS424 burner and has never had a problem since then. So if you have a desktop around with a burner that isn't ancient, try using that.

Thanks, that's an interesting suggestion, I'll surely try that.
In the meantime I noticed my Verbs are from India, which are supposedly horrible in comparison to those from Singapore / Taiwan. Oh, well wink.gif

Yes, MIS media is considered to be the "creme of the crop" with many people having "issues" with MII (Made in India). However some people over at Club MyCE (formerly known as cd freaks) have reported Made in India quality as having increased quite a bit ever since it was introduced. However I myself have never used MII or MIT media, not because I've avoided it, but because I buy it online and have always recieved MIS media.

Also test your drive at the different "SUPPORTED" burning speeds (imgburn should give you a list of "supported burning speeds" under "Disk Information" on the right hand side), burning at any speed other than one that is supported will make the drive default to the next lowest supported burning speed, if one is not present the drive will default to a generic instruction set, which will in turn almost certainly yield a coaster.

For me I get the best results on my Optiarc burner when I burn MKM001 media (Verbatim DL 2.4x branded) at 4x and MKM003 (Verbatim 8x branded) at 8x.

laptop burners are the worst, get a good pio burner.  if you MUST use it with your laptop, get an enclosure.
