Title: Setting Up A Benq With 0800 Fw
Post by: xboxdawg on April 05, 2010, 01:58:00 PM
OK, this is an easy one. All you need is the 1.60 or 1.61 firmware for the BENQ drive. Both are 0800. Use jungleflasher to flash it just like you would if you were going to use it in the 360.

Then you hook it to a sata port on your PC. You'll need a way to power it. You can use a maximus connectivity kit (or whatever brand you wish). A standard molex power adapter won't work cause it has a different power connector than a standard sata drive. Plus you'll need to eject it so if you have a connectivity kit they have an eject button and on/off switch on them.

Once you have it connected. You'll need to boot your PC into windows, power up the drive, open the tray, then power the drive back down. Push the tray half closed. (I usually put my index finger in the hole and push till it almost touches the front of the drive). Then power the drive back on. My PC wont recognize the drive till I then push eject. So I usually wait like 10secs and push eject.

Then start Xbox Backup Creator, select the drive and you're ready to rip.

Note: It can be tricky to get your PC to recognize the drive. My NForce 3 Sata wouldn't work right with it. However my 6421 Sata Card works fine. On my other PC it would work but when it tried to unlock the game partition it would error out. So if it doesn't work on one PC try another or get a SATA Card.

Enjoy backing up your originals!

Thanx for the help Dawg...I do have the connectivity kit...it has Molex on one end and Xbox power connection on the other end...it also has an on/off switch and ejection switch. Sounds like it will work for the method you are describing.

Is this the same method everyone is using?
Any other methods welcome...

Thanx again for the help.

my experience has been a little different.i have LT1.1 on my 360 and 1.61 0800 on my backup benq...the first time i flashed both drives everything went fine, but after i flashed the xbox from LT1 toLT1.1 the darn comp wouldn't see the 0800 drive blink.gif but after some reading *cough*it turned out i had just overlooked re enabling it in windows device manger*sigh*...some times i can be so smart an an idiot at the same time  biggrin.gif

anyway i have the connectivity kit and a via card...i just plugged it all in ,followed the jflasher tutorial and away it went, easy as pie...no draws half closed etc just power off and on via the kit.

Thanx for the reply wardyn.
So why don't you have to do the drawer half closed trick like Dawg?

I'm wondering the same thing. Thought everyone had to do it on the benq.

er um not sure...it maybe because i flashed 0800 only on this drive?the tutorial i followed just said to power off then on within 1 sec to get it into vendor mode(i think....was a while ago). The connectivity kit i have has a vendor mode button but it doesn't seem to work on the benq dry.gif

i do remember just plugging it all in,flashing, power on/off/on and away it went biggrin.gif

wouldn't be the first time Ive gotten dumb luck with something like this blink.gif

OK Wardyn...do you have the Via 6421card?
So again, what is your step-by-step process when you want to rip a game now...assuming the Benq is already flashed with 1.61 0800 and it is already connected to PC?

Thanx again.
