Legally you need to own one copy of each game per console you use it on. So....

If this is to play on your modded one, just use the original.
If it's to play on the JTAG one, rip to the HDD.

Simples.

I would like to personally back up this question as I am stuck with a similar problem.

I have a game (LOTR BMEII) and my GF loves it, I dumped it to my external using a JTAG xbox so she wouldn't use the drive. But as luck would have it, she didnt know how to use the external and kept using the original DVD... A media burn later, now im left with just a dump of this game and cannot find an original to buy.

I would like to make a backup before something happens to the external and lose the game completely.
