Title: Xbox360 Iso Crc Fail After Copying Iso From Disk To Disk
Post by: aaronxbox on October 26, 2009, 06:43:00 PM
Hi, I have a bizarre problem that I cannot find a reason for.  I am playing about with a backup of a Wave 3 game and running it through ABGX360 it comes back as verification successful as below.

    Video CRC matches
     V0    CRC matches
     V1    CRC matches
     PFI   CRC matches
     DMI   CRC matches
     SS    CRC matches
     Xex   CRC matches

Checking Game CRC... (press Q to cancel)
Percent  Elapsed  Estimated   Time     Average     Current     Errors    Total
Done     Time       Time   Left       Speed       Speed  Recovered  Retries
    100%     2:17       2:17   0:00   50.5 MB/s   53.0 MB/s

AnyDVD style corruption was not detected
     Game CRC = 3926DF88 (matches)

All CRCs match
Verification was successful!

However, if I copy this ISO image to a different location (different drive or subfolder) and then run the copy through ABGX360 is comes back as failing the Game CRC!

     Game CRC = 1B90A205

Game partition CRC does not match the verified ini! There are 4 possibilities:
...
Stealth was verified but game data wasn't

I am 100% certain that I do not have a memory corruption/controller/drive issue as I regularly shift about huge quantities of data and have not expericenced this with any other form of data.

Any ideas why copying an ISO imagine about would corrupt it?

Please not this has nothing to do with burning images or copying games, just moving ISO images about.

I just tried putting the ISO into a RAR file and extracing to a different location and that doesn't corrupt the extracted ISO!  So it's definitely a copying issue.

you say you do not have any hardware issues.  have you tried other checksums on other data types to see if they are in fact 100% the same?  maybe go md5 or sha1 for a checksum on a group of other files and see if they have the same issue.  i use the program exact file on windows machines - http://www.exactfile.com/

fwiw, i always build my own computers and when i do i always run memtest and prime95 for at least 12rs, most of the time 24hrs - sometimes the ram will show good for 4-6hrs but may error out later - don't really know why, could be a heat issue or possibly some weird power issue or even a mainboard issue, but the end result is that even when using high quality components, it may error out.

is this an isolated time or can you reproduce it?

also when putting the iso in a rar, it will encapsulate it w/ info for "fixing" and issue, to a degree.

Well I just checked MD5 CRC and SHA1 using hashtab for a few different file types and they all checked out fine.  RAR, BIN and non-XBOX360 ISO all seem fine.

I seems to be strictly associated with XBOX360 ISO images.

I'll have to do some further testing with 360 images.

i have about 1/2 dozen machines here w/ multiple drives and i can move a image around and do a crc check from different locations - will post when i get some info.  i will use exactfile, use sha1 for the main crc of the dvd/iso and then run abgx360 too to see how they correlate.  i see in your original thread that the drive speed was different, so that would show a different drive, but you say it does the same thing in just a different folder?

i will be moving it in just dvd/iso form - not in a rar or zip

tried it on 2 different machines which consisted of moving it between 3 different drives, an ide, sata and scsi - the game crc checked out to be the same in abgx360 in all instances along w/ the sha1 checksum in exactfile.

one machine is a older skt939 amd, can't remember the chipset and then the other machine is a older skt775 intel setup w/ a pci scsi card setup in it.

game image was cod4 goty fwiw.

also, it was transfered over the home GbE LAN

i assume the drives are ntfs and not fat32 formatted, as fat32 has a 4gb file size limit afaik.
