Hi,
I have some Verbatim DL DVD-R, can I use these to backup or does it have to be DL DVD+R?
Thanks

It has to be Duallayer for all XBOX360 games, only XBOX 1 games could be burned on usual DVD+R but this is only possible with old firmware revisions as it is regarded as a security risk

Hi, thank-you for your reply. I know i have to burn on dual-layer but can I use the minus format or does it have to be plus? (ie DVD-R DL or DVD+R DL)?
Thanks

Most likely not. DVD-R DL is a very new format, and doesn't have very good compatibility, compared to DVD+R DL. You wouldn't want to use anything besides MIS Verbatims anyway, which as far as I know are only used in +R DL discs.

DVD- actually is the older of the two formats and that's why they're better supported by older standalone players. That's why DVD+ specification was redesigned to set other booktypes on the disc. An old standalone player could read DVD+ media with booktype DVD-Rom but not with booktype DVD+. Today this doesn't matter for standalone players.

For the 360 you can only use DVD- with very old firmware. The redesign of the DVD+ specification inherits another important possibility. The layerbreak positioning. This isn't possible on DVD- and as newer firmware (ixtreme) checks for the correct layerbreak position it won't play backups on DVD-.

EDIT:

Verbatim DVD-+R DL are both produced in singapore if it's 8x (DVD+) or 4x (DVD-) media. I've them in front of me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Right, DVD-R is older, but DVD-R+DL is relatively new, at least to the consumer market. Maybe I'm way off or retarded, or I'm just remembering something completely wrong though.
