You definitely won't be able to tell until you get some solid MIS Verbatims.  BE SURE YOU BUY THE 8x OFFICIAL DL VERBATIMS MADE IN SINGAPORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Don't buy the Made In India garbage.

Yeah from experience Memorex Discs barely ever work. Buy some TDK's or verbatims.

TDK are usually made by Ritek or Ricoh last time I checked and the results on them are the same (very dependent on your individual setup).  I definitely wouldn't recommend them.

If the firmware wasn't flashed properly you most likely wouldn't be able to play originals, therefore it's a media issue.
