I've been backing up my 360 games pretty steadily for a while now.
I've steadily used Verbatims. So, one day, I ran out and needed a couple in a pinch. So, I went to Circuit City and picked up these Nexxtech ones (5pk for $6 on sale). I figured that they would be worth a try at least for the heck of it. So, I backed up a couple games with them and to my surprise, they worked fine! I decided to use the rest of the ones I had on hand (I bought two 5-packs) while I ordered some new Verbs from Newegg.
Well, I got the Verbs in from Newegg and they wouldn't work anymore!! I could no longer burn 360 ISO's on them! I thought that maybe they were a bad batch. So, I burned a big WMV-HD video rip of a Blu-Ray on one. It burned no problem.
I'm stumped! I tried updating the firmware on the drive, tried using the Buffalo firmware, and nothing worked. The Nexxtech DVD+R DL's work fine. I don't get it! Did the Nexxtech discs alter my burner somehow??
The only other change I made recently is that I installed Nero 8. I thought that may be the problem, so I uninstalled it and reinstalled Nero 7. Still no luck.
Like I said, I don't get it.
So, I went to Circuit City and picked up 4 more 5-packs of the Nexxtech discs.
Now, I'm kinda stuck with 17 somewhat useless Verbs I can only burn data onto and not 360 ISO's.

Data is data and makes no difference what you burn it either works or it does not, that said if your discs are failing at the layer switch everytime and that big wmv did not go over to other layer that would point to a batch of dodgy verbs.
Try a cd cleaner either way
And burn at 2.4x only.

The WMV-HD file was 8.22 gigs.
I think it went past the layer break, didn't it?
I'm starting to wonder if the verbs are, indeed, dodgy.
I will pick up a 10 pack later in the month and try again.
But, something very odd is going on with that drive. When it goes to burn on the verbs, it doesn't get past the Lead-in. It does that on Verb after Verb. It acts like it never burned the lead-in at all because I burned the WMV-HD file onto one of the ones that failed.

So you are getting power calibration error at the very start
-
Yep. That is exactly what is happening. But, with the Verbatims, not the Nexxtechs.
-
Keep in mind that Verbatim has started outsourcing SOME of it's DL media production to Moser Baer in India and they can be world's apart in quality from the MIS (Made In Singapore) DL Verbatim discs.

I tried some a couple of the verbs down further on the spindle.... and they worked!
Could some of the Verbs at the top of the spindle be defective?
-
the same thing happened to me but i decided to just buy a 212d and got rid of my 111d. i hope that it was a different error then your or i scrapped a perfectly fine drive. unfortunately i dont remember what the error was. but it was doing the same thing.

So, the 212 will burn 360 backups as good as the 111d?
I'll bet there is a list somewhere of which burners work best for burning 360 backups.
-
Yes, but the 111D is right on that list. Make sure the firmware is up to date on the 111D first. Also you didn't confirm the country of origin on the DL Verbatim. There can be a night and day difference.

Im havin the same problem. I flashed a mates drive the other day (hitachi 59) when I checked it with some of my own backups my older games worked fine, but my latest batch of discs which I keep gettin opc failiures on when burnin in my 111d wont work. I checked em on 2 47dj's and a 59 with no luck but they work fine on 2 samsung ms 28's and a 78fk. I know all these drives use the same laser so whats the difference? Im thinkin it may be the firmware but then again I suppose the 47 and 59 are both a bit old now. The verbs I was usin (I always use verbs) were from svp in the uk I'v bought them from there a lot in the past and they always been fine. This dodgy batch is the 10 packs cos theyre out of 20 packs at the mo, the realy strange thing is they say made in singapore but theyre not in the bright blue cake they in the purple cardboard box and the cake box inside has a purple bottom with clear cover is this normal? they showin up made by mkm in xbc but dont they usually say mkm001? Im startin to think theres some fake verbs goin round ya know I not had made in singapore for about 6 months and when I get em they turn out to be crap
Sorry to double post this but I think it's relative to both these posts. Jester ace your the man, what you dont know about media aint worth knowin
