Title: Any Difference In Quality With Inkjet Printable Media?
Post by: bluesdrummer24 on August 14, 2007, 01:40:00 PM
I am planning on purchasing some new DLs and was contemplating purchasing some inkjet printable ones. I have searched through the threads and haven't seen this issue addressed. Is there any difference in quality between printable and non-printable disks by the same manufacturer? All input is appreciated.

As far as Verbatim goes there isn't much of a difference in quality between printable and non-printable.  The only reason why you don't see as many comments about them is due to the fact that they usually cost quite a bit more than the regular DL Verbatim discs.  As for the other lower quality manufacturers, no one can really give you a clear picture since there are so many variables.  It's all hit and miss.  There are some studies however that suggest that in general the IJ Printable discs are of lower quality due to the extra handling process with having to put an IJ Printable surface on the discs.  As to the truth of this, no one can say for 100% sure and as always it varies by the quality of the manufacturer.

Thanks for the info. I have been printing the backups of my movies for years, and wanted to continue with 360 backups. I have never gone the printable label route. I heard once that it can mess up your disk by offsetting the center of gravity. Has anyone had any issues with labels? Are people having success?

Used to use the standard verbatims and stick-on labels for my backups, until I had a few that refused to work, peeled the label off and lo and behold, discs worked again...

Now use verbatim printables, just finished my first pack of 25, no problems so far, so just ordered another 50...

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the printable verbatims seem to be perfectly designed for 360 backups, the clear centre section is the same size as the 360 hologram on store bought discs!!!

So the verbatims don't have a printable hub? I haven't even seen any in person yet. Just online. If they don't have the hub, then I will just wait. Thanks alot for the info, guys. Is this the consensus, the labels are evil? Has anyone had success with the labels?

Yes, overall the stick on labels are a nightmare.  Very few people have reported having no problems over time.  So many issues with them.  If you are bound and determined to have fancy labels then definitely stick with the Inkjet Printable discs.

Just burned my first lot of backups today. I'm using Infiniti Gaming 360 Printable disks. I had to laugh at the name - they've got the words 'gaming' and '360' in there, nicely implying that these disks are suitable for Xbox 360 backups, yet in a court case they can easily argue the '360' refers to the fact that they're full face (i.e. 360 degrees) printable.

Anyway, maybe I'm doing something wrong, maybe my Xbox 360 DVD drive is faulty, maybe my PC DVD-RW is faulty, maybe I've got a bad batch of disks, but either way I've attempted to back up 3 games today, used 9 out of the pack of 10 and got 8 coasters. Which sucks to say the least. One game worked fine first time. Another game doesn't work at all, gives a disk read error or blank screen immediately. Another boots to the menu screen but gives a disk read error when attempting to load the actual game. Needless to say, all the originals work fine.

I'm going to order a different brand of disk and see how that goes.
