First of all you need to tell us which burner it is.  Sony has long been outsourcing production to Benq and Lite-On.  Once you figure out which model it actually is, then we can direct you to a booktype setting firmware that you can flash to your drive thereby allowing you to change the booktype setting to DVD-ROM.

Hey jester, they tricked you, they even have samsung now  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) , it is a rebadge samsung 182 burner

@zo0mair

Most burner have permanent bitsetting and the booktype is  memorized in the drive itself so you could use any software to burn with a DVD-ROM booktype. Unfortunately, it seems some samsung do not have permanent bitsetting so you must use a software like imgburn 2.2 (not 2.1) that does bitsetting by software everytime they do a burn  (or you have to set the booktype to DVD-ROM before every burn).
Not 100 % sure if this one in particular is one of those not having permanent bitset, and it may have changed with the latest firmware!

Use imgburn 2.2 ( Tutorial: XBCreator & Imgburn ) and select the Auto ‘Change Book Type’ in Tools/Settings/Write.

also look at the pinned: with the latest Fw the booktype is a lot less important for both hitachi and samsung.

I set up the same sony drive before.  DVD-Decrypter gave an error when trying to set the booktype so I burned anyways and it worked out fine.  It might be because it set the booktype automatically or maybe I'm just a lucky SOB.  Still works though.  Good Luck.
