Tutorial On Making Backup With Xbc / Imgburn
--------------------------------------------------
This tutorial will help you do your X360 and Xbox1 backup using Xbox Backup Creator v2.8 (XBCr). This new version of XBCr will also burn you X360 Backup using the XBCr burning engine or with imgburn v2.4 by calling Imgburn for you with all the adequate parameters. (note that this Tutorial was prepared with v2.4 and Imgburn 2.2 but the same applies to v2.8 and Imgburn 2.4)
If you require to install these applications see the second post of this thread.
RIPPING
1-Open XBCr* ,

2-Select your ripping drive like SH-D162C (other model in the pinned topic) or Samsung/Benq drive**(FW xtreme800). Note that Hitachi do not allow to extract SS and therefore games
3-Place your game in the drive, (It will see the small video partition of a few MB)
4-Press Start , select the directory and enter a name
5-When completed, you will get a 7 651 848KB ISO ( or 7.29GB) or 7,651,262KB depending on the x360 games. If you use a version prior to 2.5 or do not activate the Splitvid then the files will be 7,395,392KB or 7.05GB. The .iso for Xbox1 will be 7,258,816KB (or 6.92GB) without splitvid.
6-You can verify the stealth/iXtreme compliance as per Media Stealth: What is needed and How To Verify, (DMI, PFI, Video Partition, Samsung SS) . It is not absolutely required since all is extracted with the adequate method and tools, but you can still make sure all is fine.

ALL DONE, TIME TO BURN.
*The real application looks much better without the watermark
, but to the guys who took pictures here last time and did not mention the source, SHAME on them.
BURNING METHOD A: WITH XBCr **
1-Open XBCr* , select XBC as burning engine

2-Select your burning drive ,
3-Place a blank DVD+R DL the drive, and select writing speed (if the start button remains grey, you have not selected the proper drive or do not have a DVD +R DL in the drive)
4-Press Start , select the .ISO file you have just created (or the .DVD which will not make a difference here)
5-When completed, enjoy
**Not all burners are supported (but close
)
BURNING METHOD B: WITH IMGBURN
1-Open XBCr* , select IMGBURN as burning engine

2-Select your burning drive ,
3-Place a blank DVD+R DL the drive, and select writing speed (if the start button remains grey, you have not selected the proper drive or do not have a DVD +R DL in the drive)
4-Press Start , select the .ISO file you have just created (or the .DVD which will not make a difference here)
5-Imgburn will start and tell You should have selected the dvd file
, click OK
6-When completed, imgburn will close, enjoy
VERIFYING A BURN
1-You can validate that the burn was done with the appropriate layerbreak, booktype and that the image burnt corresponds to the image file on HD. The method is presented in the thread How to verify a burn . Note that this is not required and simply a validation.
2-You can also verify the stealth/iXtreme compliance as per Media Stealth: What is needed and How To Verify, (DMI, PFI, Video Partition, Samsung SS) .
QUOTE( Which Drive to extract @ )
**The lastest iXtreme FW will not allow you to rip (extract) games with any software (XBCreator, schtrom, IsoBuster...). You will need to reflash xtreme800 or acquire a Sh-D162C(ide)/SH-D163A(sata) for your PC in order to backup games.
QUOTE( SPLITVID Explained @ starting with XBC 2.6/Schtrom 3.3)
Video Partition On your original disc you have a small dvd partition that will show the famous message
'to play this disc put it in a Xbox 360'. It is what you will see if you put a game in your PC or if you have the wrong key in your modded X360. That small partition on an original disc is in fact divided between layer 0 and layer 1 of the dual layer disc.
Before Splitvid: Splitvid is in fact an adapted version of the traditional
Xtreme format used up to XBC 2.6/Schtrom 3.3. The traditional
Xtreme format backup have both part of the video partition on layer 0. Current hacked firmware
will manage the request for the video partition sector of layer 1 such that they appear as being in their right place even if in fact recovered from layer 0 (thks to C4Eva). As a result, if the disk is queried for the various sectors, they appear at their proper place.
Splitvid: The new splitvid format respects the format of an original disc by having the video partition on layer 1 as per the original. It also maintain a copy of the layer 1 video partition on layer 0 such that it respect the traditional
Xtreme format.
Both format are included so you lose nothing by using it.Current Hacked Firmware: None of the hacked firmware (including iXtreme 1.2) currently used the splitvid format so it is not required at this point. When queried for the sectors of layer 1, the firmware gets it on layer 0 thus making it transparent outside the DVD drive where the sector really is.
About The Future: No speculation plse, will the firmware eventually use the video partition from layer 1 as per original disc ? no way to know!!! Since the remapping of the sectors makes this transparent it does not seem to make a big difference.
It does not hurt to have the splitvid in your backups if it ever gets implemented in the firmware then you will be ready (remember everyone currently redoing their backup with stealth

)
Detection: Now as per the pinned topics, no one knows what MS will next try or can detect or not.
This thread is not to be turned into a speculation debate as it happened on this subject previously (i'll be watching

)

IMGBURN INSTALL
You can download Imgburn at imgburn v2.3 , and use the installer.- When used through XBCr do not set the layerbreak to manual, XBCr will manage this for you. In Tools/Settings/Write/Options Layerbreak should be Calculate Optimal.
- With the latest firmware (Hitachi v2.3 and Samsung 3.1+) the booktype setting at DVD-ROM is not required, but it does not hurt. You can set it in Tools/Drive/Change Book Type/'Your burner Brand' select 'change For:' to a 'DVD +R DL MEDIA' and in 'New Setting' choose DVD-ROM + hit Change.
- Some LG and Samsung burner do not have permanent bitsetting (stored in the Burner memory) like for most burner. They require the software to do it before each burn, this can be selected in Tools/Settings/Write/check Auto Change Book Type.
XBOX BACKUP CREATOR INSTALL
You can get XBCr from the link at the top of the thread and extract it in a directory, nothing more to do. Simply run Xbox Backup Creator.exe.- Imgburn (and Nero) if they are already installed on your PC will show in the scroll window when XBCr starts (1). If imgburn is not listed in the windows, you can open the selection window by using the
button (2) and indicating the location of the ImgBurn.exe file (3).

- If you have problems loading XBCr make sure you have .NET installed (windows updater), and VB6 runtimes + mscomctl.ocx which are included in the installer as Xbox Backup Creator v2.4.exe. Only do this step if you have problems.
- Vista: Plse use the included installer. Some people had to turn on User Account Control (UAC) and make sure it was run as admin.
- Not seeing your TS-H943A: Turn off the "FW Branding Check" on the options tab unless you need it (A hitachi branded as samsung or opposite). For those using a VIA6421 card, you should try using the version 5.2 of the Via drivers (here)
SOME COMMON PROBLEMS- Ripping is extremely long (30+ minutes): Your Drive is probably not in DMA Mode (Went in PIO Mode). You can change that in Device Manager and can easily be found via Google
. - Getting an error during the rip
-You have this with all your games then it is probably a setup problem, if you are using a SH-D162C you can try moving it Primary/Secondary IDE and Master/Slave.
-You have that with only one game then clean your disk very well. If that does not resolve it could be your original is damage or marginal (see this post). - You are getting Unknown Partition size. Used bytes = 5.32 MB then upgrade to XBCr 2.4.
- During the burn if you are getting Session Fixation Errors, Optimum Power Calibration failures, or Invalid Write Address failures, they are usually due to low quality media or a defective burner if you were using adequate media (look at this post).

NME BACKUPS
after you have completed the RIPPING section:
(IMG:http://memberuploads.xbox-scene.com/uploads/2007_03_08/16_44_45_nme.jpg)- method 1: you open the NME-360 aSSociat0r.exe, select convert, choose the file and hit Convert.
or - method 2: reopen XBCr/drive tools/securitysector save as SSnme.bin, open the NME-360 aSSociat0r.exe, select merge, choose the game file & SSnme.bin and hit Create.
Note:
-that this is for X360 games only as indications are that NME chips do not support Xbox 1 Backups.
-You must first make sure that your chip is functioning properly ( Modchip Development / Research ).
Single Layer Backups
Only Xbox 1 titles can be made on SL disc and it requires FW 5.3 or prior on your X360 samsung Drive (iXtreme does not support Sl anymore and Hitachi drive never supported that feature)
- Do your iso like you would do it for a dual layer backup (xbox 1) as per tutorial above
- Instead of burning, open Xdvdmulleter,
- select Build an ISO, Next
- Load from file, select the ISO, next
- select Create DVD5 ISO, next
- region, next
- For SS file , Load from source iso (you may have to select generic for DVD5), next
- Sealth sectors, Use source ISO, Next
- layout, optimize for Disk or load a layout file if you have one
- make iso

Hello:
I've tried 2 backups of Oblivion using Xbox Backup Creator 2.4.
My ripper is a DVD-ROM SH-D162C TS04 at Additional Info: XB360 KREON V0.81, and the burner is a CD/DVDW SH-S182M SB03 at [J].
They both appeared to rip/burn okay. I'm only burning the large 7gb + iso. I put in my 360, I get a message on the tv from the 360 of "To play this disk, put it in an xbox 360 console".
I'm missing something, just not sure what.
Any assist would be appreciated.
Thanks, dice4206

do you have other backup working? just ot be sure your flash is OK

Soso:
This was my 1st attempt backing up, I didn't think to make 1 with another title. I'll try that.
The original Oblivion plays okay, just checked. The media I'm burning onto is a Matrix brand 2.4x certified, DVD +R DL
The tutorial for Creator 2.4 mentioned a small 1kb file, I got 1 similar to that, but it's a 4kb file.
Do I need to combine that with the iso. perhaps?

4 kb ???, it is usually two lines of text, you can trytoblivion with Schtrom.
also those media are not the best.
Try with verbatim (at least until you have it going)

Hello,
I´ve done some backups with this tutorial: http://team-underdog.com/howto.html
For all backups this works fine. Now with the game "test drive unlimited" I´ll get the information
on the screen: "Please insert game into a 360 box"
What else can I do? I don`t want to destroy lot´s of dvd´s (Verbatine)
1) try again with schtrom 3.2 (my last one was 3.1)?
2) backup creator 2.4?
I`ve got the chip NME, SH-D162C+Kreon 0.81
Thanks in advance for your help
-
you can try the two method above, as good as I can give you because I do not have a NME to test.
It seems the SS is not good so it is either
1) extraction of the SS (how was it done)
or the
2) transfer to NME SS position (method 1 or 2)
if your other backup are working that is all I see (you could try backup another game)

Thanks for the quick reply Soso,
The SS was done by the program (Schtrom, Version 3.1), then the iso blown up with the program NME_aSSociat0r, vers. 0.3. I´ve burned it with the imgburn. All other backup works fine, done like written before.
I´ve now done another backup with schtrom 3.2 and one with the backup creator 2.4.
Actually I´m off Verbatim. After receiving them I will inform all, if it works.
Best regards.
-
Hello again,
Now it works
I´ve used the Schtrom 360Xtract V2.3, then the NME-360 aSSociatOr and burned it with the imgburn.
I also tryed a cheaper dvd (Memorex).
So if somebody have a problem with test drive, he should use the upper mentioned programs.
Best regards.

While I tried backing up my Call of Duty 2 game, I got an error message about 5% into the extraction. It says:
"There was an error reading the XDVDFS file system. The app will only loose minor functionality and should be able to continue normally. Do you want to continue without using the Sector Mapper?"
What does this mean? What causes it? Can I fix it?
-
Is it clean/no scratch/ I am assuming you are using a shd162c, you could try reducing the read speed in options.
If it does not wrok you should try report this in XBCreator , but most people had no problem with it.

if i'm not wrong, the image after ripping should always be 7.3GB but mine is always 7.05gb so it does not work. tried the burnt disc at both native JAP and PAL consoles same result. this is my first back up game that does not work using xbc and sh-d162c. i just want to know if there is a special method to back uop this game?
-
you are wrong, it is suppose to be 7,395,392KB (not 7.3GB). Since converting from KB to MB to GB requires to divide by 1024 (not 1000 since it is binary based) that gives 7,395,392KB /1024/1024=7.05GB.
That 7.05GB is mentionned often, a bit of research plse

Great Work! I followed BURNING METHOD B: WITH IMGBURN 2.3 with my NEC DVD RW ND-2500A(Flashed With Herrie's NEC Firmware to NEC DVD RW ND-2510A) burned Tetris Evolution on Verbatim DVD+RL 2.4x and everything worked FINE!!! Once again great tutorial!

Also scale back the DMA and PIO in the bios seams to help since this is an older drive. I scaled back from UltraDMA to MAXDMA and PIO 4 to PIO 3 with complete success.

Well , respectfully , you should do a lot more reading. Because all tutorial and the smallest amount of reading of the pinned Backup Faq - Everything* You Need To Know PLEASE READ BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS! would have told you that you cannot use your regular burner for that.
also in the tutorial above "Select your ripping drive like SH-D162C (other model in the pinned topic)"
There are only 4 PC drives that can do backup (shd162c and 3 others) with xbcr, also the x360 samsung.
otherwise you need to use wxripper.

hiii , thnx alot for the flawless method , but i have a small problem , iam getting only the main iso file of 7.05 GB , and i didnt get the 1 kb .DVD file .
my question is : can i just burn this .iso file with imgburn or nero or any other without the .dvd file ???
plz help me .....
(note : ive tried to read using 2 different drives one is LG extrnal DVD writer model GSA-E10L , and the other is philips DVD writer , and using both i got only one file )...
thnx aloooot

first forget the size 6 font for a regular post !!!
second why would xbcr not give you a .dvd file.
redo you backups from the original with XBCr or schtrom and you will have all you need.

ok no fonts , lolz
thnx for the quick answer , and sorry 2 trouble u , but wht is schtrom ???

similar as XBCreator ,
also very good Schtrom.
only for extraction, must burn separately with Imgburn.

Hi,
I am a newbie and want to know if I use XBC 2.5 and Imburn to backup my original xbox1 game, can the backup game play on the XBOX1 (hack one)? Thanks in advance for the info.

no, backup made for x360, will only boot on x360.
xbox1 requires patched xbe files
if you are looking for a way to backup a Xbox1 game with XBCr/shd162c for use in a Xbox1, then look at How To Do Xbox 1 Backup From Your Pc Only.
good luck

I have a TS-H943A and XBC 2.5 see's it fine and sees the disc, but shows a huge size (4 TB) with any game disc I try. Also my start button is greyed out. I have no problem ripping images with schtrom32 and burning with imgeburn so I know my SATA Card (VIA1642) my connection and drive are fine. Any ideas why I am getting the greyed out start buttion with XMC? And how about the strange disc size it reads?

im new to backing up, first 3 discs failed on write.
I used xbc2.5 and imgburn 2.3 to make backups of both my nhl2k7 and college hoops 2k7. No problems at all reading and making images, but when burning i'm getting crc write errors.
first 2 burns lasted until 2% and 15% before crc errors
third burn I used xbc to write, it resulted in a failed write.
everything done according to tutorial. I using a pioneer 111d, kreon drive, and verbatim +r dl
2.4x write speed, burner is only a couple months old. I tested by burning a full data dvd is it was good
any suggestions? I might install a new hard drive and fresh copy of xp tomorrow

ok it was my HD. when I was backing up my stuff before new HD install I was getting crc errors on some files. I moved the kreon and burner to another system and ran XBC for read and write, 100% success on 2 originals.
-
is there any quality difference in writing when using XBCr or imgBurn?
i burned 8 backups (read with a kreon fw drive) with no problems and have used both imgbrn and xbcr, just wondering what is supposed to be the best if any difference at all
-
I wanna tell everybody that there is no problem if you are not having a small DVD file under the image. I´ve burned 11 games, all without any dvd file, could anyone tell what it actually i doing there for?
-
the file was there to communicate where to separate the first and second layer.
If you burn without xbc and do not set the layerbreak manually, then you need it to say where to split.
When using XBC engine or XBC to call imgburn, all of that is manage by XBC so it is more or less useless.

Newbie question - (I didn't think I was a newbie, but I guess I am!)...
Is there a way to check a current backup for SS, Stealth, PFI, etc... from the backup (already on a DVD DL and working) without having to re-extract it first? I tried to simply use XBOX Creator v2.5, however after loading it simply shows basic info... Anything else I try to do seems to require an ISO or the vid files and will not seem to look to the DVD DL backup in the drive for the additional information.
With all the talk as of late, just want to go through backups and ensure they were done correctly...
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!
Woops, think I just found a link on how to do it... I'll ask again if I'm wrong (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I'm using XBC v2.5, my 360 drive is a samsung MS25...
I have a xtrm0800.bin file which came along with my Xtreme 5.2 package. If I flash this file into the drive, will I be able to make a 100% copy (DMI, PFI, SS, Video)?
-
you do not need to flash it the drive anymore, just burn it on dvd, and run it for 20 to 30 sec, they your drive will be seen in windows. Then the rip with XBC will have everything (video, dmi, pfi).
-soso

This file I'm speaking of is only 256Kb.
So I just burn a normal dvd with this file on it and leave it runnig for 20-30 secs? I also have a Enable0800 disk, but once I insert the game DVD, the drive disappears from windows.
I'm using Xtreme 5.3 now, and there is no xtrm0800 in the 5.3 package. So I guess this file I have is not even part of the 5.2 version either... maybe some earlier version.

version 4 and before I believe

lastly i found that once a drive messes up 6 times or something it reverts to PIO permanently till something is done supposebly. I go to device manager and put DMA when available but the current transfer mode is constantly set at PIO....any suggestions?

Is it possible you have something else on that channel that does that (old device), try it by itself on that channel,

I tried to mess with it for a few hours yesterday and still got nothing.....i cannot for the life of me reset it to DMA and that has GOTTA be the problem. There wasnt any option within my bios to change it either. I reflashed it, reset my machine, changed the transfer mode back and forth, used the script, tried uninstalling it then having windows recognises it but still.....it remains in PIO
i think the only thing i can do to change it is just get an external enclosure and plug it via usb to subside this PIO horror....unless anyone knows any other ways to surpass it....i think ive tried everything except BIOS which i didnt see anything in there. If anyone is familiar with the intel chipset motherboard bios and knows how to change to DMA i guess lemme know. I think im going to get an external enclosure from best buy today (one that it used for hard drives with an IDE interface) and jsut rip out the wiring and use that for my drive.... i imagine that should work. Ill keep you all updated and if anyone thinks up anything in the meantime please post or PM me here

W000 I AM CORRECT!!! For those of you that takes longer than about 20 minutes to make an ISO and you cannot figure out why I HAVE FOUND THE SOLLUTION.
Get and External Enclosure for your Kreon drive. By going through USB 2.0 you surpass the PIO and DMA modes. It was taking me 75 minutes to make an ISO before and now i making an ISO at this very moment and im @ about 40% in 6 minute leaving a total burning time of anywhere from 15-20 minutes down from previously 75 minutes!
Is it worth it to you to save those extra minutes? Hehe im glad i have supplied some information to the scene. It may not be BIG news but i guarentee many will be happy =)
Edit:Total ISO making time:14 minutes at 15 seconds =)

i was hoping someone could help me with my problem. I follow this tutorial up to step 4, but i am not able to push start, it is not an option. The ripping drive i hav selected is my only one, so it could be my drive. My drive is "NEC DVD+-RW ND-6650A 102C". I have tried xbox backup creator 2.4 and 2.5 and the same problem. O ya, and i'm trying to burn 360 games. please help.

Have you rread step 2, only drive to rip are...
your dirve is not one of them, you may burn with it but only very specific model can rip

hi,
i'm having a problem with xbox backup creator v2.5.. I have a sammy with the kreon firmware v0.81. and just got me a 112d burner.
now the problem is I cant actually press the start button on the read tab, it's not highlighted.
the sammy is recongised along with the disc, 360 disc by the way.
I've unistalled and reinstalled countless times and no change.
I'm working off a laptop, got an ide to usb adapter for the sammy, dont know if this is the problem
I know its going to be somthing obvious but i need help please...anyone?
cheers

you are most probably right that usb to sata is the issue. Some people had success with USB adapter/enclosure, some it did not work.

have you really read my answer to him (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) ? It refers to step 2 and the sticky at the top of the forum saying Backup Faq - Everything* You Need To Know PLEASE READ BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS!

QUOTE
The only PC DVD-ROM models the can be used with Kreon FW to rip entire games (including SS, DMI, PFI,Video and game partitions) with XBCreator (or Schtrom) are: IDE = SH-D162C and TS-H352C; SATA =SH-D163A and TS-H353A.
And every letter in the designation is important (i.e. SH-D162A is not good)

yes, I did...excuse me for being completely retarded but it got to be harder to understand especially after reading in the compatibility list that my drive was in fact one that was used and working ( burned 45 copies)
so are you saying that my drive will not work for the task? is there another way?

you can't burn the game if you can't rip it first.
The only drives that allow you to do that are already listed for you. you need one of those to rip the game first.
-
it works to burn, but not to rip.
in order to extract the game from the original disk you need a drive with Kreon FW (the four drive in the sticky) or a x360 samsung flashed back to 5.3 for ripping.

I'm having trouble backing up an Xbox game (Fable) with backup creator on a Single layer DVD.
I can rip it fine and I get the correct size ISO but when I then follow the OP on step number 7 I always get an error saying unhandeled exception. I'm not sure what an SS file is or what it means when it says "You may have to select generic for DVD5"
I put the steps below so if anyone has any ideas. I'm also using Version 1.0.0 of Xdvdmulleter Beta 8.
"Single Layer Backups
Only Xbox 1 titles can be made on SL disc and it requires FW 5.3 or prior on your X360 samsung Drive (iXtreme does not support Sl anymore and Hitachi drive never supported that feature)
1 - Do your iso like you would do it for a dual layer backup (xbox 1) as per tutorial above
2 - Instead of burning, open Xdvdmulleter,
3 - select Build an ISO, Next
4 - Load from file, select the ISO, next
5 - select Create DVD5 ISO, next
6 - region, next
7 - For SS file , Load from source iso (you may have to select generic for DVD5), next
8 -Sealth sectors, Use source ISO, Next
9 - layout, optimize for Disk or load a layout file if you have one
10 - make iso"

You need to have a modded 360. but if you mod it, it will probably not function on Xbox live.

ok probably a dumb question.. so im to the understanding to use a SAMSUNG SH-D162C DVD to rip/imagefile and then use Pioneer DVR-111 to burn the the image back to disc. besides these 2 drives and software and of course the verbation Media disc.. is there anything else that is needed before or to burn a backup of a 360 game?

No that's all I use.
Make sure you use DVD+R DL because 1 time I bought a pack of DVD-R DL and then it went to waste.
Also make sure the original discs are clean and don't have scratches otherwise it might not rip it. That happened 2 me 1 time so I then used Schrotom(?) to rip it.
And If anyone knows any ideas to my problem up above please help out.

Setup : Sammy 162C with Kreon FW in an external USB enclosure.
While I am able to backup using Schtrom360Xtract V3.3 very nicely, I have never been able to backup with Xbox Backup Creator v2.5. It always stop ripping around 25%.
Any thoughts?

Alright, this is my absolute last resort.
I have the SH-163A drive flashed with the Kreon Firmware.
It comes up fine in xbox backup creator. It recognizes the disc, and it even says it has the Kreon firmware. But for the love of God, I can not click start. It doesn't give me the option. I have the right drive selected, I have a xbox original disc in the drive. I have searched everywhere and I can't find shit about it.
The flashing software, SDFNWIN I believe it's called, has all my drives listed in the pulldown menu, but none of the drives info pops up when I select them. When I try to flash the firmware again (although it is already flashed) it gives me an incompatible firmware error.
I thought it might be my onboard SATA (I have an ASUS A8V mobo), so I bought the RC-212 Rosewill SATA controller card. It has the 6421 chipset I've seen is recommended, so I figured it would work. I get the SAME exact error.
I've tried reinstalling XBC. I've tried switching sata ports, I've tried updating the SATA drivers, I have tried every damn thing I've been able to find, but I am having no luck. It's driving me nuts.
When I hook it up to the onboard SATA on another computer with an A8V-XE mobo, it works flawlessly. It is driving me fucking BANANAS. Does anyone have any suggestions? Anyone ever experience this before?
I've also tried Schtrom and XDVDMueller (I think those are the names). Is there another program that might work that someone could link me up to?
I also read somewhere that someone had this problem because their IDE driver was outdated. I can't find an updated driver for my motherboard anywhere. Any suggestions as to that?
I've purchased the 162-C to avoid the SATA problem, but I get the feeling that's not going to help.
For the love of all that is good, PLEASE help me!

ok, so I gave making a back up Dead Rising on the computer the drive works on a shot.
My 360 isn't reading it (YES it's flashed). I followed all the instructions... I mean, not too hard, put the disc in, hit start, burn the resulting iso. I didn't change the booktype on the drive I used to burn, however. Would that make it not work?
Sorry. I'm just getting into this.

Man I have the exact same problem with a similar mobo, Asus K8V SE. It is also driving me bannanas. I have upgraded my bios to the latest, tried different sata drivers and different sata ports and I still cannot get XBC or Schrom to rip from the drive. XBC just has the Start button grayed out and Schrom doesn't even list the drive, yet it lists my Pioneer burner just fine. I am going to try a fresh install of XP and play with different SATA drivers again. I have searched and searched now for weeks and have found others with the exact same problem and have tried their fixes. ie. upgrading bios, making sure sata is plugged into the VIA and not the promise raid sata ports, disabling the onboard sata bootrom in the bios and ensuring the operating mode is set to onboard IDE. Nothing has changed, it still doesn't work.
If anyone has any other ideas I am game to try them. My last resort after reinstalling and playing with drivers is to try an usb enclosure.

hello all, im lost here!
I been backing up my sons games for almost a year now with now problems. the last 4 games ive tried to do WILL NOT WORK, spiderman 3, def jam icon, Overlord, gears of war. I test XBC with the my burgerking xbox 360 game to make sure software was working. cause that one has always been able to read
Was using XBC 2.3 then went to 2.5.
Have also tried newest version! just yesterday
reason im here, well i cant even get the burger king game to rip anymore.
I open XBC put disc in, and start button is greyed out. (same issue many others are having)
this is what i get, i have always done everything from with in XBC. (I've backup over 40 games) Am i missing a plugin? Is my firmware on the D162c to old? (it can't be the version of my firmware cause then the burgerking game would read and i could hit start\My theory...since it has worked from day one of doing backups) I have never had Image burn installed on this machine. i tried intalling that to see if it would help me get the start button back, i have rebooted machine MANY TIMES, Only other thing i have done is installed new version of nero 7.10.00 i always uninstalled that and went back to old version 7.5 to test and that didnt help either. I've checked google and well this is where its being mentioned so thought i'd throw a post out there.
Any ideas\help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Also ive yet to recieve email from xbox scene so will have to check back periodically. my junk folder is empty. so not sure wh im not recieving them.

usually shd162c Kreon drive will say that it is Kreon, and they show as TS04, yours show ts05 with no additional info line. Is it possible that the firmware on your SHD162C was updated to TS05 therefore overwritting the Kreon.
usually in XBC you will get (IMG:http://memberuploads.xbox-scene.com/uploads/2007_09_15/18_15_41_cbc.jpg)
and in schtrom you get
(IMG:http://memberuploads.xbox-scene.com/uploads/2007_09_15/18_16_11_sch.jpg)
I would reflash the SHD162C with Kreon FW
also I would used XBC burning engine or XBC to call imgburn (free)

well i have contacted the guy who flashed it for me and he's yet to get back to me. but i dont recall ever seen kreaon on it??
ive had this drive flashed since the players have been out. over a yr now??...
I have not reformatted computer or anything. is it possible the firmware just disappears? all i have done was upgraded nero versions thats it. can software programs change the firmmware with out me knowing?
Thanks for Reply sosotiit.

maybe some auto update in windows?? or other, but it does not look Kreon at the moment

well i talked with my buddy outta state who flashed this whom i bought the drive from orginally. he im'd me the firmware again. and you were right it was 05 and after flashin with his it went to 04. and i have tried using Xbc and it has worked flawlessly again. I asked him what he thought the reason may be. and he's not sure how it happened either. Be interesting to knwo the reason it happened. all i can think of is that i added a samsung lightscribe to my custom machine here, and maybe when installing that dvd drive it somehow ran into comatibility issues? or updated theother drive?
But again Thnak you sosotiit for your help and fast replies
I'm back and running.
And for those others that may run into the same issue. now ya know what fixed it for me.
Take Care.

When I try to backup a game I get this error "Error opening DVD-Rom [D] for exclusive access" I have backed up many games before but lately I have been making some coasters.
I was using an older version of imgburn that worked great then I started to get errors 3/4 burn. So I wanted to try the current method with xbc, but when I open the iso, I get the stated error. Any help??
EDIT: Ive made coasters with both Verbatim and Memorex DL. I get the error with games I have backed up before. My drives are a NEC 3500ag and a LiteOn SHW-160p6s

I am using the SH-D162C drive with Kreon 0.81 fw + xbox backup creator v 2.6 to rip Halo3 and
the resultant files are a 1kb dvd file and a 7,651,848 kb file (7,835,492,352 bytes). The same for bioshock.
Is this the correct file size??? What may I be doing wrong?
I used the search function and could not find an answer.

That is the question I came looking to answer as well. The tutorial now says :
QUOTE
5-When completed, you will get a 7 651 848KB ISO ( or 7.29GB) for x360 games. If you use a version prior to 2.5 or do not activate the Splitvid then the files will be 7,395,392KB or 7.05GB.
Is there any place with further explanation of this in more detail? Obviously, a change was made for a reason. Are older rips more vulnerable to detection?

It does not hurt to have the splitvid in your backups if it ever gets implemented in the firmware then you will be ready (remember everyone currently redoing their backup with stealth (IMG:
style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) )
Detection: Now as per the pinned topics, no one knows
what MS will next try or can detect or not.
This thread is not to be turned into a speculation debate as it happened on this subject previously (i'll be watching (IMG:
style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) )
original thread updated ^^

yes the layer break needs to be set, but if you select the .dvd file to burn instead of the .iso, then its setting the layer break anyway
