1. Open XBC
2. Go to drive tools, hit unlock drive twice until it reads the full size of the disc.
3. go to read select current partition
4. hit start, wait for it to copy.
5. go to drive tools, extract the ss, pfi, and dmi.
6 open schtrom xtract, insert any xbox 360 game, under task choose video.iso, and extract to the same folder as your crackdown files.
7. In this folder, you should have (naming is important) a game.iso, video.iso, SS, PFI, and DMI.
8. Make an identical copy of this folder.
9 Open SS merger
10. choose the iso, ss, pfi, and dmi from folder 1. select "add video partition" choose "insert iso" leave fixes checked.
11. check/uncheck nme compatibility as needed.
12. hit the "merge and create layer break" button (File->Merge does not work)
13. window pops up, choose game.iso from folder 2 (or else it may give you a file in use error)
14. Now open imgburn, set layer break to 1913760, burn at 2.4x. If your making a backup for the nme360, make sure it is exactly 7.705.657.344 bytes.

When I do step 4, I get errors throughout my backing up process... Requring me to fill them in with "Zero" any idea as to what i might be doing wrong?

If you do not select NME, your image should be 7,395,392KB (or 7.572.881.408 bytes if you right click in windows).
In ssmerger say no when it requests to validate to the database.
If you want to check your image to ensure all pieces are there, you can use the stealth check in Schtrom (the one in XBC will probably give you a false alarm on the PFI that has changed format but is OK).

EDIT: @pun_puff
If it is the only game doing this, your dvd needs to be cleaned or is its quality is not the best.

Is step #6 actually required? What is its purpose? I was under the impression that Crackdown was similar to Star Trek Legacy and Fuzion Frenzy 2 in the way that they needed to be backed up. Step #6 was not required for those two games. What's up?

in the other we were not including the video.iso, not absolutely needed but does not hurt.
In fact it is a good idea since if the game is not recognize you get the little video telling to put it in a X360, and that is a good sign that something is wrong with the SS part.

So those same 14 steps can be used to back up Star Trek? Just making sure cuz I was a little confused on the Star Trek thread.....thanks

absolutely, rgds,soso

before burning and a possible coaster, can someone confirm i burn the iso from folder 2 , not 1?
thanks
-
Folder 2 is the one you want. SS merger is going to read the files in folder 1, and output the new iso to folder 2. If you try to output the iso to the same folder it is reading from, it will give you a file in use error. Also verify that the iso you are going to burn is 7.572.881.408 (non-nme) or 7.705.657.344 (nme).

not getting anything near these sizes for my iso files. When i dbl click XBC2.3 to unlock drive, my image size goes from 5.5 to 6.81. When i create a partition of Crackdown my .iso file size is 7395392KB , after i use SS Merger 1.7B to merge files the output .iso in folder 2 is only KB7135744KB.
My settings for SS Merger are importing the .iso, SS, PFI and DMI. In settings checking the "Add video partition(xtreme style) , checking the "Insert Iso" and "apply Imgburn COBRAMAB1 fix and Apply XBOX369 disc label.
Do i have these settings correct?

I'm a noob, where can i locate schtrom xtract? I'm going to slap myself if it's obvious... This is my first attempt to back up one of my games and it seems crackdown was a hell of a choice to start with...
Also..
What does non-nme and nme mean exactly?

hey all i followed all the steps and my crackdown image is 7.05 GB (7,572,881,408 bytes) which you say is correct sosotiit but when i use schtrom to check the stealth i get
video stealth verification -failed
pfi stealth verification-passed
dmi stealth verification-passed
image failed image is not stealth !
Is this still ok to my understanding everything should have passed when checkin with schtrom
-
Since I can't do step 6, because I keep getting a error that no valid xbox game is inserted, what do I need to select for my options while using the ss merger? Do I still need to add the video partition and insert ISO or pad with blank? I know I need to deselect the NME compatibity, but anything else I should check or uncheck?
Thanks for your time

unlock your drive with XBC and leave XBC open, then open Schtrom and dump the video.iso file. as for the boxes checked in ss merger, uncheck nme (unless you have that) check insert iso, check add video partition, leave both fixes checked.

this might be useless info, but I backed up Crackdown with XBC by hitting the Security Sector button ( to get 6.81 gigs) then did the read, and it asked to fill with zeros, I clicked ok and made the backup. It plays fine. I have about 50% completed the game with no problems. I understand it is not "stealth" (I dont use L!ve)but should I be worried about not being able to play the whole game all the way through?

Has anyone had the same problem verifing stealth as i did in my earlier post ?

i ripped the video file from call of duty 3 and use the insert iso tab i burned the game and it plays fine but it would be nice to figure this one out (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
not sure why i get
video stealth verification -failed
pfi stealth verification-passed
dmi stealth verification-passed
image failed image is not stealth !
did anyone verify stealth after inserting the new video iso, also i used Schtrom to do the verify
maybe ill try to rip the video iso from a different game (should i use a retail game or backup for the new video iso, my first try was a retail copy of cod3)
Thanks for the help soso

Ok, I'm home and it still doesn't work doing it that way. I have tried many times every which way you can think of, and it continues to say I do not have a valid xbox game in the drive.
Can I just read it using XBC using the current partition, b/c I can get a full read with it? And if so, what are the steps afterwards to get it ready to burn.? Can I just patch the SS, DMI, PFI, and burn the image with image burn? Do I really need to extract the video, I don't use Xbox live?

in fact you could get away with only game and ss. The rest is pure speculation anyway (not a criticism I do it to
).
AS for not playing on live it is obviously better since there is a rules against use of backups on Live at XS, just in case

At this point, IMHO do not go crazy on that stealth thing, just pad it with blank. If ever it becomes of a huge importance, you get rid of current backup, take your original and redo a new backup.
By then new version of XBCr and schtrom will be out, if ever you need this by the way

OK, im PC illiterate for the most part. so im proud of myself for even getting to step #6. But, now im stuck there. I goggled the schtrom extract. and when it downloaded, it came up in what I think is dutch, asking me to put in a game disk. so i never got the task tab to choose video.iso . Is there something i missed along the way? did i DL the wrong schtrom program?
thanks guys

Try downloading schtrom HERE, the dutch version may be slightly more complicated to use if you can't speak dutch.

After 3 coasters, i'm a little pissed! Something is not going right. My original back up .iso file is 7.3GB, when i use SS Merger, the iso left in folder 2 is only 7.13 , and the .iso in folder 1 increases size to 7.6?????
I've burnt both .iso, i know my media is fine Verbatin, my drive is bitset and i've done 2 other 360 games after these coasters that have played fine.
What am i missing, anyone else have a more detailed instructions? And YES, i've tried this on 2 different copies of Crackdown, with same results. All .iso files, don't come close the size suggested they should in this thread

Can I use the video360.iso included with the xtreme firmware? renaming it of course...

Can someone tell me what the size is supposed to show in XBCr or has anyone backed this game up on a SH-D163A ?
When i unlock the drive it shows 7,307,001,856 bytes. But if i then press eject and reload. It changes to 7,572,881,408 bytes (tried pressing unlock several times also, stays at 7,307,001,856 bytes)
It will dump without problems when showing 7,307,001,856 bytes.
When i try to dump it whilst showing 7,572,881,408 bytes (after eject) , I get this:

If i press OK. I get this:

I have a hitachi 78 drive in xbox, so im unable to dump it that way. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

About using different video.iso, here is something to consider. The x360 image is very sensitive to having the image as per the original layout. The change in the new game is that they are using a smaller video.iso.
Replacing the video.iso could be OK if done with one of exactly the same size, but not very good if you use one of the older video.iso which was bigger.
In conclusion, it would be OK if the video.iso is from one of the new games with video.iso of the same size. Probably easier to get Schtrom and extract the good video.iso or just pad with blank in ssmerger.
Hope I make sense??

Ok i found my problem. The 7,307,001,856 bytes dump was fine.
It was SS merger V1.7b. I was selecting everything from folder 1 then choosing output as game.iso in folder 2. But for some reason it is patching the one in folder 1.
I burned the one from folder 1 and it is working fine.
Not sure why it is patching the wrong file (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif)

you want to burn the files that is 7.572.881.408 bytes (or 7,395,392KB) if you have not selected NME obviously.
the 7,135,744KB file is only the game.iso (current partition) without the much needed SS (and others)...
One quick way to know which is OK is to use the image stealth check of Schtrom. If the SS is in the file it is OK.
rgds,soso

see, thats what i thought. and I tried, and got a dirty disk read error. But my 7,395,392KB is in my first folder, and it was stated in an earlier post that I need to pull my iso out of folder 2. Someone else seemed to have the same problem of ss merger sending the iso back into folder 1, but I didnt understand how to correct the issue
-
hey i dont have any DVD+Rs right now to verify if i ripped crackdown properly. can someone tell me if these steps i took should be fine?:
1st i used dvdinfo pro to send custom commands.. that enabled me to see a 7.05 GB image file in isobuster. using isobuster i extracted the iso file and changed the TO thing to 3567872. so i have the game.iso file.
2nd i used XBOX BACKUP CREATOR to extract SS.BIN, PFI.BIN, and DMI.BIN.. these files took like one second each. is that correct?
3rd i merged everything together by putting the three BIN files and game.iso in the same directory. i then ran build360.bat and it gave me a image.000 file (which is 7.05 GB).
4th i copied a image.dvd file from a different backup to the crackdown folder and edited the file with notepad. changed the filename to the appropriate .000 file.
did i miss anything??
-
Well guys, I was finding some of your problems strange, I reviewed the method presented a bit more thoroughly, now I think I know why.
In step 12 after you hit merge, ss merger is not asking for the output file but for the video.iso to be inserted (in fact with pad with blank it will not open that window). The output is normally in the file indicated by the "ISO FIle", and does not keep the original game.iso.
So here we go with how I see it (By the way, not saying the method of JTG88 is not working, maybe it is just me not getting it)

14b. Now open imgburn, set layer break to 1913760, burn at 2.4x or 4x, If your making a backup for the Flashed FW make sure it is exactly 7.572.881.408 bytes (or 7,395,392KB), for nme360, 7.705.657.344 bytes.
no need to duplicate the folder. Again just another view of it, no saying it was not working.

So here we go with how I see it (By the way, not saying the method of JTG88 is not working, maybe it is just me not getting it)
no need to duplicate the folder. Again just another view of it, no saying it was not working.

soso,
appreciate the time you are taking to answering my repeated questions, but I got another one. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
can you explain step #14 to me using cloneCD as an example, instead of imageburn? Ive never used that program and have no idea how. Is setting the layer break something I need to do with cloneCD?
did you purposely leave out step 8?
does sneak King work to take the video.iso from?

with clonecd, not really, just choose the .dvd file and it will set the layerbreak. You can do the same in imgburn by not setting the manual mode and selecting the .dvd file.

QUOTE(JTG88 @ Feb 21 2007, 02:54 AM)

1. Open XBC

Will this process work at all without doing step 6? It did for Star Trek but I am afraid to try it with crackdown.
-
Well, I dont know if I have ever been so frustrated in my life trying to back up a game
. I've tried twice so far with no luck. I've followed the instructions to a "T" and cant seem to back up my original copy of crackdown. The disk burns alright, but when I attempt to play it I get "unreadable disk" error. Using Verbatims, burned with image burm at 2.4. I have the samsung drive flashed with kreon. Hopefully someone can come up with a definitive guide to help us out, or a new version of XBC to solve this frustrating problem. Soto thanks for all your assistance. You seem to be all over the place and I appreciate you trying to help. I'm scared to try again in fear of making another expensive coaster....
PS....Anyone successfully back up NBA Street homecourt?? If so, with this same method???
-
Like others, SS merger put my 7,395,392 KB iso in folder 1 instead of 2. So naturally when i burned it what was in folder 2 (still 6.8gb), it gave me an unreadable disc error. When i burner folder 1, worked like a charm! Hope this helps confirm the theory.
-
soso worked perfectly tried and tested excellent work guys and thanks
burned no problemo
-
Hi,
Just For your info.I used JTG88 method for backing up Crackdown and works fine. And yes gerzand you are correct SS merger put the iso in folder 1.
Using DVD decryptor and burning at X4 speed using TDK disc.

Just tried using video.iso instead of game.iso with ssmerger and without duplicate folder.
Working 100% using COD 3 video.iso (265,873,408 bytes) with all STEALTH checks passed. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Erm....
Just a few things here. when i do a stealth check with XBC it fails on PFI, but when I do a check with Schtom I get a PASSED stealth, one of them has to be wrong, but which 1. The next one is that when i insert crackdown, the title has changed on the disc to XGD2DVD_NTSC not the normal one, is that inportant? Im based in the UK so was wondering if other people can confirm any of this. Is there anyway of changing the title to XGD2DVD_NTSC instead of XBOX360.

Great work sosotiit, done as per 1 to 14b & worked the first time around, thanks
-
Worked for me, but i didnt add the video and patched it with the blank. Seems to run fine, dont know if i will have a problem down the line
-
thats why i asked the questions, im checkin to make sure its exactly as the original disc

I am following the directions below, When I get to step 13b, I get an error message process cannot access the file game.iso because it is being used by another process. What am I doing wrong?:
1. Open XBC
2. Go to drive tools, hit unlock drive twice until it reads the full size of the disc.
3. go to read select current partition
4. hit start, wait for it to copy.
5. go to drive tools, extract the ss, pfi, and dmi.

9b Open SS merger
10b. choose the iso, ss, pfi, and dmi, select "add video partition" choose "insert iso" leave fixes checked.
11b. check/uncheck nme compatibility as needed.
12b. hit the "merge and create layer break" button (File->Merge does not work)
13b. window pops up, choose Video.iso +hit Open

that is the entire point (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) , in 13b you must use video.iso (not game.iso)

I am clicking on video.iso after clicking on merge create layer break. Where it asks for iso file I choose game.iso, I then add the ss, PFI, and DMI files. I click Merge and creat layer break and chose video.iso, then I get the error message.

something else is accessing your game.iso , google unlocker and you will find a freeware called unlocker 1.8.5. It will allow you to close link to whatever is calling it.
You may also try jtg88 method, maybe I did it that way for those having this problem.

Tried both ways and I still get the same message. I also tried unlocker and no luck. Just for the heck of it I tried the process by clicking pad with blank instead of insert iso and the process worked although obviously the finished product was not correct. But what that taught me was that I only get the error message process cannot access the file game.iso because it is being used by another process which leads me to believe that the other process is somehow part of ss merger 1.7. I am at a loss, but I do appreciate all the help you have given me.
-
batman15, a friend of mine is having the same exact problem and its driving us crazy.....we also tried the unlock program, but that didnt work for us either...if you figure this out will you please post the solution and we will do the same....thanks for your help
-
Hey batman, I think we figured it out....what version of xbox360 ss merger are you using?? He had 1.7 and when we install the newer 1.7b, it seems to be working now......Ill let you know for sure once the process is completed...Success!!!! Once we updated his version to 1.7b, we got passed that point!!! I think that is what you need to do...take it easy

Just as I was getting on to post I was finaly successfull in backing up Crackdown with all the help from soso and Darthmaul, I see this, lol.
At any rate thanks to all those who helped me and thanks to Redline for creating such a great program.

Hi Obby,
I am experiencing the exact same issue as you, where you upgradded to XBC 2.4, and your drive is no longer detected under XBC.
Please post your log information in the thread I created so we can keep track of all of the data.
The thread I started can be found here:
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=589029
please read my post and post information based on your setup so we can try and determine the root cause of the issue.
Thanks!

If you want to play it then yes.

no the updates are not a prob, and it should be posted in the thread of that game, not the backup forum.

Quick noob question, this method...is it needed if you have a firmware hack on the DVD drive? Can you just follow the WxRipper method?
-
UUMMMhhh not sure I am following you here
all method of backup require a hack on the drive and this method is not imposed by the hack. The need for this has nothing to do directly with hack or wxripper.
XBCr/Samsung Drive (SHD162C or TS-H943A) provides the user with an integrate backup solution, one click and you get your backup (extraction or all pieces and merge all done by xbcr)
Because of the change in some game files that used to be of a standard size, that integrated process was not possible. We had to use this method as an alternate method to the XBCr usual one click process. Each pieces extracted separately and then merged.
For those with Hitachi drive only, there are currently not integrated solution, the solution is always to extract the pieces and then merge.
Hope it helps ???

Hai, sorry bout that, i worded my question wrongly. Yea, i was just asking if this is for the hitachi only drives...but after making the post, i realized that there would have been no way for me to do the first couple of steps if i didn't have a kreon drive. So then with hitachi drives, the only method i need to follow is dumping the entire image to my computer using wxripper, then merging the ss and other files, and burn....correct? At one point kreon seems like the simpler...but now, it seems that wxripper is simplier and less of a headache...
-
I followed the steps listed on page 3 worked great for NBA Street Homecourt.
I am using a sammy sh-d162c firmware flashed dvd rom, lg burner verbatim +r disc's and the NME-360 chip
I used xbc 2.4 and SS Merger 1.7b and clonecd to burn it.
I used blitz for my video file
Every thing worked first try
Love you all for doing this or all us newbies out here.
One Question will this process work for all games up to date ie tiger woods 07 battlefield 2 exc.
-
no need for this method anymore with XBCr 2.4 just put the disk in and do a complete backup (no ssmerger).
plse look at Tutorial: XBCreator & Imgburn .
