The objective of the Backup Forum as per the front page of the forums.xbox-scene.com is
"Technical and General discussion about DVD DL burning, and iso creation and manipulation for the purpose of archival backup of material you own. Hard Moderated."
It is not about the the best place to find DVDs and such discussions would fall outside the scope of this forum. On the other hand, so many of the problems we see here are coming from people using DVDs that do not produce adequate results, and often these are as expensive as the higher grade DVDs.
It is well recognize that the Verbatim +R DL are today (jan 2007) the best media for your X360 backups.
With the only objective to support the backup effort of the members with information to access adequate media at a price that is equivalent (or sometimes better) than some of the lower quality media, we could post here any deals we might see on the Verbatim +R DL Media.
In the context of how this barely fit in the scope of this forum, we must accept some rules:
1) All X-S rules are in effect.
2) When you see a good deal on verbatim and that you are not the party selling, plse post it.
3) If you own the DVDs or work for a party selling the dvds, then you are not allowed to post in this topic. In that case please go the B/S/T forum and post there (read carefully and comply to the rules of that forum).
4) Do not ask "Hi, Where can I find ... I leave in..." without searching the thread first or your post will be removed.
5) Do not post about other brand, unless it is one of the rare case of Verbatim inside (MKM00x)
The posts in this thread are obviously For Your Information only and anyone choosing to conduct any sort of transaction with any of the parties mentionned does so at their own risk and expense.
Enjoy, get the good stuff, it is worthed
.
Note: There are sites like CDFreaks.com that are focused on CD/DVD/Burner and where you can find far more extensive information on DVD media and burner bargains (CD Freaks Bargain Basement).
WARNING: It was mentionned in another thread recently (and in some indutry sites including verbatim-outsources-double-layer-dvd-production-to-india ), it seems verbatim will start outsourcing part of his DVD +R DL production to MBI (Moser Baer India). You should start seeing these on the shelves end of Q1 or early Q2 2007. The current unconfirmed news are that they will continue to produce at their Singapore facilities as well. No word yet whether the production of the respective facilities will be assigned by region or not. It would be good to start looking at the label and search for a "Made in Singapore"
.

anybody any idea where from and how much I could buy Verbs from in Singapore when my parents make a trip through in a couple of weeks.
be a shame to see them come back empty handed
my sister lives there, so a mail order or a shop bought place would be ok either way (tho if easy places for them to go into idea).
They must be a lot lot cheaper over there than they are over here in the UK
wonder by how much
cheers,

Website reports they are sold out for shipping. Driving there is a little too far from Florida.

I don't believe Futureshop ships outside of Canada and the shipping charges to Florida would be horrendous.

A little more of a pain in the ass but still a great deal for those of us here in the US. Paypal is offering $15 off purchases of $30 or more. NOTE: YOU MUST RECIEVE THIS OFFER FROM PAYPAL IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What you do is use the following link:
https://paypal.promotionexpert.com/greatsho...ml?route=misc.s
and enter in your email addy (make sure you shipping address matches your newegg account shipping address)
Once that is done then go to http://www.newegg.com and select either the 2x 10 packs or the 20 pack of D/L Verbatim and then use the paypal option with the email addy/account that you entered in the link above to pay for it. Unfortunately there is no way to track this rebate. You will just recieve $15 in the mail at some point from paypal. Either way once all is said and done you will end up with 20 D/L Verbatim discs for just under $25 shipped. Best deal I have seen on them in a while.
-
Thanks for the Paypal deal, but it didnt work for me
.....When I put my email address in, it said something like this offer is not available to you at this time....oh well....I have been a paypal customer for that past 5 years!! Evidently you have to get the invite for this offer directly from paypal...Please post any other deals that you may find as I look almost every day for Verbatim deals.....
-
Yeah, sorry man. I'm still trying to figure out paypal's method for distributing this offer. You could try creating another account and see if that works. As always I will stay on top of the Verbatim deals, especially as I have a new use for them.
-

Here is a good deal as well with google checkout
Google Checkout $10
You can search though the google merchant stores, when you checkout at most not all they have the $10 off in the cart.. under thier checkout button on the site will be a google checkout button.
You need a gmail address to sign up for the offer.
It seems you can get a 3pack for 3.47 after the $10 with free ship from this site..there is a 10%off code as well just search google. http://www.shop4tech.com/?go=view_item&id=2623&r=183
Paypal deal is better, but google checkout could be used more than once if you have another credit card and email address.

Not bad. I am a little hesitant though as my only defective D/L Verbs came from shop4tech. I realize that this is the exception and not the rule, but I am still a bit hesitant.

I apologise if there is already a post, but I need to know where I can get some good Verbatims for a fair price. 10-20 will do as my Xbox is not reading my discs that well anymore and I'm going to see if Verbatim media does the job.
Thanks
-
The cheapest places to buy media in the UK (In My Experience) are these suppliers :
http://www.bigpockets.co.uk/
http://www.svp.co.uk/
However the going rate (In the UK) for Verbatim is around £17 for a 10pack (Rip Off!) . I personally have been using RIDISC / Datawrite media as it works fine and is only £6 for a box of 10. Look at DVD media reviews on these sites and many customers say stuff like "Works great on xbox 360" for various brands of media. I am sure Verbatim are very good but at a ripoff price of £17 compared to £6 they arent getting my business, even if you coaster a few on a cheap brand its still more cost effective.

How long have the discs lasted? Mine seem to get read errors after about 2 weeks (at the most) do you have a Samsung or Hitachi?

Mine has been reading my DL Verbs perfectly for well over 2 months now. I have the Hitachi V47DJ drive. Which media are you currently using? As for rip-off pricing, well that depends. You can get DL Verbs from SVP in 20 packs For a little under 35 pounds (including shipping). Or you can get them from a friendly guy in the US who imports them for even less than that. Datawrite printables, I can't really be bothered messing about anymore. I should have gone for Verbs in the first place. Whos the nice guy in the US?
Thanks
-
Take a wild guess.
BTW any problem if they are just the regular labeled Verbs and not the printable ones? Printable ones are significantly more expensive.
Anyways, For those of you folks in the US you can setup a new account with google checkout and get a 20 pack of the D/L Verbatim DVD+R discs for $31.80 shipped from http://www.shop4tech.com. Sign up at: https://www.google.c...p;ltmpl=default
-
I'm not bothered about them being printable. Is that the shop that ships to the UK?
-
Yes, it ships to the UK and pretty much anywhere else in Europe. Obviously you will be paying more than US prices but you will still be paying a bit less than SVP (which is currently the cheapest prices on DL that I can find in the UK/Europe). E-mail me or PM me for more details.
Anyways, for those of you who don't mind ordering in bulk I found a new deal for ya in the States:
10 packs of D/L Verbatim from http://www.officemax.com for $15+tax each
Order 4 packs or more and get free shipping (free shipping for orders of $50 or more at officemax.com)
Unfortunately you do have to pay state sales tax if you have an Officemax in your area but it essentially translates to the same deal as when the 20 packs go on sale at bestbuy for $30+tax each, and using this method you get it delivered directly to your door. 4 10 packs (or 40 discs) worked out to $63.56 shipped for me after tax or ($1.59 shipped per disc). No rebates or goofy one time coupons to get this deal. You just need to order 4 packs or more.
-
thanks jester! i just pulled the trigger on 4 of these at OMX for $64.16:)
-
Any cheap Australian stores
?

officemax has 10 PACKS OF VERBS FOR 14.99 CHEAP

Yup, posted that above. Unfortunately, the deal doesn't apply in Australia. Might I suggest checking out the bargain basement at CDFreaks as I believe there is a thread there dedicated to Australian media deals.

QUOTE(magic_man185 @ Mar 22 2007, 05:28 AM)

I looked on their website earlier today because I was wondering the same thing after reading about the office max deal on here, it also does not say anywhere on their website that this is a sale price. $1.50 a disc, and with jewel case, I think I will be buying my dl discs from there now.
They are not in the jewel case. They are in a small spindle of 10 and yes this does seem to be a nomal price for officemax. Now bring on the coupons so that we can get them for even cheaper.
-
Flashed my box some weeks ago - it took some time, but finally I succeded with no help but this forum.
Has now used by first 10 pack DL' - Verbatium - bought in London for GBP 14 in a small store next to Aldgate station in East London before I started the project.
But I don't live in London - I just go there on business from time to time. I live in Denmark - probably the country that has the highest taxes on DVD - ordinary single layer DVD's are EUr4 and up - I guess a DL would be EUR10 per piece at least. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)
I have looked around on the net. My normal German supplier Nierle only sells Verbatium in single or 5 pieces - normally they are cheap, but not this time. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
Where should I go - any good webshops to recommend?
Especially suggestions that is located just south of the Danish/German boarder would be nice - I will go there in eastern.
p.s. Hope this treath do not offency any of the rules - As far as I could see it did not.
Lets find the best and cheapest supplier in EU (to prevent VAT issues etc.) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/love.gif)

Did that price include VAT? As for sourcing the cheapest DL Verbatims in Europe, sometimes you need to look no further than someone's sig in order to get your answer.
-
Even if the Officemax stores in your area don't cary them you can still get them for the same price if you order online and get 4 or more of them (free shipping on orders over $50).

I think the cheapest one is $40 bucks. I don't have a membership but a friend is going to make a trip there for me.
-
Okay folks, looks like they have finally shown up. I was wondering why the packaging and quantity of the 50 pack DL Verbatim seemed so out of place. It was reported earlier this year that Verbatim was going to start outsourcing SOME of it's DL media production to Moser Baer in India. I just had a confirmed report from a guy over at CDFREAKS who purchased a 50 pack of DL Verbatims from Sam's Club that they are Made In India (Moser Baer). Not saying don't jump on that deal, I'm just saying I would start checking the packaging and verify which country they are made in before purchasing. Moser Baer has had a mixed track record with their single layer media and given the fact that you can easily purchase Made In Sinapore MKM DL Verbs for only 10-15 cents more per disc, I personally wouldn't waste the money, unless you really can spare it for testing purposes. Who knows, some of these 50 packs might still be made in singapore, but you never know.
-
Anyone reckon they can get their hands on these and see how well they might perform?
-
Not at those prices they won't. The one guy who bought them is returning them with due post haste. Here is a link to the thread discsussing them:
http://club.cdfreaks...ad.php?t=216766
-
Ok - thought I'd contribute my findings on this for UK based people.
Cheapest place by some margin was actually eBay - one of the sellers will do 20 spindle packs for £28.99 plus £4.99 postage, but the postage drops to £2.50 for any more packs bought.
The seller was called saskia73b and here's an example auction number: 160111303978
Having bought 2 of these, I've now found an even cheaper source by some margin.
http://www.wizardpri...-_storage_media
This place sells 10 packs for £10.33 including VAT - the postage is very high at £10, but this covers up to 30kg so if you buy a load of them, you'll save a fortune. I've just place an order for 20 cake tins and the postage is still £10 - can't find anywhere getting anywhere near this price.
Note: the website is dodgy, and will calculate the postage incorrectly (peaks at £30 after adding 12 or so, then stays at £30). However, if you place the order and then ring up the customer service number, they'll amend the order to £10 postage and refund the difference - I have an email to that effect from the customer service department who say the website gets 'confused'
Hope this helps someone.

The price for the Verbatim DVD+R DL 8.5GB/240 min. 2.4X - 30 pk is $49.84+Tax... which makes the price per DVD+R DL about $ 1.80/Per in my area... The good thing is that this are not from India but from Singapore... So they are consider the good ones...
The bad thing is that just a few are available in a few locations... So go to their site and look for the one that shows they have 1 available... But they should have more then one in store... But not many... One location I called had 13 of them left today...
Not sure if I will get a few of the 30 pack and 1 of the 50 or if I will stick to only getting as many as I can of the 30 pack...
-
If you order 4 packs or more (or if your local store happens to have them) you can get a better deal from Officemax. 10 packs for $15+tax each. If you order in large quantities then you can try tracking down a coupon and get them for quite cheap. I ordered 10 packs of 10 from them and used a $30 off $150 coupon and ended up paying roughly $1.28 a disc and they are the exact same things as those 30 packs at Sam's Club and are all made in Singapore. Don't quote me on this but methinks that Verbatim might do like Fujifilm and outsource their largest quantities to Moser Baer in India (ie 50 packs or larger) but the smaller quantities will still be made in Singapore. Verbatim did say that some production will still be handled by MKM in Singapore so they aren't ceasing all production.

TY JR777...
I had gone to Sam's yesterday and got 120 DVD+R DL's Verbatim's(Singapore) for about $1.80 per DVD-R DL after taxes... Thanks to u... I'll be returning them this week... Glad I hadn't opened any of them yet...
Thanks to u'r info I was able to call in an order to OfficeMax of 100 DVD+R DL's Verbatim's(Singapore) this morning and I was able to get the same discount of $30 off $150... Making my cost per DVD+R DL $1.31 after taxes... So u just saved me $50 bucks...
If anybody is in need of 100 DVD+R DL's Verbatim's(Singapore)... All u need to do to get this deal is to call the order in (1-877-OFFICEMAX) of 10 packs(If u order more then 10 packs... U won't save as much $$$)... And add a box of paper clips to go over the $150 mark... When I called the cheapest box of paper clips they had where $1.09... Do like if u'r ordering from their catalog and mention offer # 117980320402 ($30 off $150)... I found the offer # @ DealSPL. This is the only way I was able to get this deal since the coupon codes out there have already been used up... But they are taking the offer #... I should have my DVD's tomorrow..
After looking around the net for over week... This is the best price I was able to get...
TY for the hook up JR777...
Damn.. I love this forum.. Glad I am back in the scene...
-
They also have a 49 cent staple puller and a 50 cent marker on there which will both put it just over the $150 mark so you can use the coupon. Yeah, I always stay on top of the best prices of DL media as my business depends on it.
-
I just spotted a way better deal than Future Shop for Canadians:
Direct Canada's Verbatim section
I haven't used Direct Canada (yet) but the few reviews I found about them were good.
BTW, what gives better result 8x or 2.4x ?
This post has been edited by The Blazer: May 16 2007, 02:47 AM
-
When they aren't on sale, then you are correct that that site is better. Anyways, as for the 8x or 2.4x, it depends on your burner. The Pioneer burners will all support 6x or 8x on the 2.4x official rated discs without much trouble. I burn at 6x all of the time on this media with no complications on my 111D. So unless you have a burner that limits burning on these discs to 2.4x and you desperately want to burn faster than I would stick with the 2.4x discs. Cheaper and they still give great results at higher burned speeds.
-
Ebay seller Jugewell have some great deals on the Singapore Verbatims. Really good deal if you buy more than one of the 20 packs. You can get to his store here as well, www.ugaps.com
-
Anyone know where you can get them for about a buck each?
-
Why is it that people still think that ebay is a great place to pick up media. After factoring in total costs (shipping, ect.) you almost always end up getting ripped off, that guy charges about $205 shipped for 120 discs AND THAT IS IF you get it for the opening bid price. You can get 12 10 packs (120 discs) from officemax for about $190 after tax and with free shipping on a regular basis and you can get them for MUCH cheaper if you get a coupon code. I did this and ended up with 10x10 packs (100 discs) for $127.61 with all charges included and thus far every 10 pack that I have recieved from OM is MIS. @Rage, afraid the deal I got is about as good as it gets here in the states. Canadians can get them for around $1.20USD per disc when futureshop has them on sale though.

This is the first one I have seen in 2-3 months. Then again I have been sticking with OM as of late.

Best Buy has the best price for Verbtims AFAIK. they frequently drops the 20disc bundle to 29.99 , or even 24.99 ( I bought 10 last time (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ) , Now its 29.99 for the 20 disc bundle + tax ofcourse.

For those of you with a microcenter in your area they do have the 20 packs of DL Verbatim for $28. You can order them as well (if you don't have one in your area) but you will have to add about $6 for shipping.

At $2 a disc+tax that isn't much of a deal. Microcenter is under $1.70 a disc (with shipping included) and even less if you have one local. Newegg has them in 20 packs for $35 with shipping included or $1.75 a disc. There are always deals going. IMHO if you live in North America these days and pay more than $1.80 a disc for the regular DL Verbatim, you are getting ripped off.

Just a tip for ppl going to Microcenter to pick some up. Call first to see if they have them in stock. If not, then order online for in store pickup. Might save you a wasted trip.

Yeah tell me about it. Finding the jewel case verbs is pretty easy but hardly any store seems to have the spindles in stock at a reasonable price.
-
If you say so.
-
Microcenter near me always has them in stock. FYI I believe tomorrow is the last day of them selling the 20 packs at $27.99 so you might want to grab some if you haven't already.
-
Got some at Bestbuy the other day, don't know if that deal is still going. 20 packs for $29.99.
I bought two spindles, that comes to $59.98 with 10 dollar off coupon if you spend more than 50 bucks. That knocked the price down to $49.98 + tax, I'm happy!

Yeah seen jewel case ones about but at around £3 that is a complete rip off for US people that is like 6 dollars for 1 cased disc no way would US people pay them prices so why should we.
-
Good news. Looks like Office Max once again has the 10 packs going for $15. Order 4 packs or more and get free shipping. If you really don't mind ordering in bulk you can get them even cheaper if you can track down one of the coupons.
-
You can get the Verb 10 packs down to $0.99 each before taxes if you go to the store and use this $10 off $25 or $20 off $50 coupon (4 x 10 packs = $59.96 before tax - $20 coupon)

Unfortunately a number of the OM stores don't carry them on the shelves. Both of them in my area DO NOT carry them and I have had reports from people all over the country with the same findings. So it is just luck of the draw.
-
Hey, anybody knows a good shop in Germany?
Or an internet shop that ships to Germany?
Everywhere it seems they only have those stupid printable ones...
Who the fuck does need those? When they were non-printable they were less expensive.
Also bloody jewel cases cost a hell of a money...
So somehow DL got more expensive in the last couple of month.
At least here in Germoney...

I believe it is a one time use per person. Although officemax can be pretty stingy with their coupons.

Damnit!! I bought them last weekend - Saturday I think - I bet you the sale expired last Sunday & I probably caught it on the 2nd last day of Sale.
Sorry about that mate. Sucks.
Newegg has the same 20 Pack DVD+R DL Verbatim for $34.99 with Free Shipping / No Taxes.
I paid $31 & change at Best Buy - for a couple bucks more - I'd say grab 'em at Newegg.Com now.

If you order in 4 packs or more though, it is definitely cheaper to do officemax. Cost me 63.56 after shipping for 4 packs versus $69.98 for two twenty packs from newegg (both are a quantity of 40). And as mentioned if you track down a coupon it is even cheaper.
-
Who are people using in UK ?
-
Best to use svp.co.uk. I've got my current Verbatims imported from America, courtesy of jesterrace777.
-
I just checked OfficeMax online and they have 10 packs for 14.99. I don't know if this is only an online special, but if not, a pretty decent deal.
-
They have been running that for a while. While it isn't exclusively an online deal, you will be hard pressed to find them at your local stores (many locations don't carry them). If you order 4 packs or more you get free shipping though. Don't really see what the big deal is about ordering them. I've ordered at least 20 packs from them and never had a single issue. Also if you don't mind ordering in bulk and can snag one of the $30 off of $150 or more coupons you can grab 10 of them and add a 49 cent staple puller or a 50 cent pen and get them for under $1.30 a disc with all charges included.
-
Thanks for the info. How often do they run the 30 dollar off promotion? I want to be sure to jump on it when it pops up next.
-
If you sign up for MaxPerks you will get them periodically either via e-mail or regular mail. You can also go to sites such as fatwallet and slickdeals and ask other people for them. Sometimes you will find people who post them who don't need them.

Well you might be in luck. This is a stretch for this thread but it does fit.
As mentioned in another thread, a number of the 25 packs of DL Sony DVD+R are now Made In Singapore and carry the MKM001 code (in otherwords it is the exact same media as the Verbatim DL DVD+R that we all covet).
Bestbuy has them on sale for $30 this week. Works out to under $1.30 a disc and if you happen to snag the ones that are MIS it is a pretty good deal as you don't have to buy them in crazy quantities to get them that cheap. Just be sure to check the country of origin on the spindle.
-
Okay, just FYI I went down to BB today and after sifting through about 20 packs of DL DVD+R Sonys I did manage to find 2 packs that were MIS. Some are reporting them at around the 50/50 ratio in their local stores and some have reported that all of theirs were MIT. Keep in mind though that Sony has only started doing this recently so it might take a little while for a bunch of the old MIT stock to be sold off before you start seeing some MIS DL Sonys. So it is kind of luck of the draw on this deal. Worked out to about $1.28 a disc at the counter, not bad for MKM produced discs.
-

3. Head over to OfficeMax and grab the exact same pack that's on sale at BestBuy.
4. Tell the Cashier at OfficeMax to do a price match for the DL DVD's
5. The Cashier should give you the same price ($29.99)
6. After she does the price match present the coupon to her and you should get $10 off your purchase .
(note: One coupon per person)
P.S. It's a little bit of a hassle but it brings down the price to about $1.00 each. I walked out with 3 (20) packs of DL DVD for only $64. (with tax)

Unfortunately that is now the gamble that we all take when ordering Verbs online since some of the production is now in India. I can only hope that this will help contribute to the lowering of cost on the Verbatim discs as a whole.

Unfortunately the best US deal I can find ATM is at newegg. $36 for the 20 pack with free 3 day shipping. Incidentally you wouldn't happen to have an error rate scan on your discs, would you? (You would need a Lite-On, Benq or Plextor burner for the scan).

This disc was Burned @ 2.4 and scanned with a BenQ1650.
I wasn't sure what speed to test in, so if you need me do it at another speed just let me know.

It's about as I expected. Decent, but nothing spectacular. Too many total PIF for my tastes, but then again I'm ultra picky.
I think the highest total number of PIF that I have ever had on the Made In Singapore DL Verbs has been between 5-6K.

I just bought some from eBay to day, 20 pack for 31.75 plus 6.50 for priority shipping in the U.S. (Item is from California).
At the moment there is only 24 packs of 20's left, and the auction goes on until Monday morning (Oct 8th).
There is also another person selling the same item for 32 dollars plus 6.50 for priority shipping, only 17 packs left, and auction goes on until Monday night or so.
Just search "verbatim dvd dl" and it's the top 2 auctions.

The folks over at cdfreaks have analyzed them pretty extensively and it's hit and miss with the MII Verbs. If they are decent quality then there isn't much difference between them and their top quality Singapore produced counterparts. HOWEVER, if they are of bad quality then they are worse than the cheap quality DL media that is out there.

If you see my other thread I had this whole ordeal with Memorex DL. This was my third spindle and for some reason it didnt want to make anything work. Out of the 20 I had only 1/4 of them worked
So I will no longer take the chance and stick to verbs

Any scans? @zenKis14 if you buy locally and search for the spindles that are made in Singapore (ONLY SOME PRODUCTION HAS BEEN SENT TO INDIA) then you can still be guaranteed to have quality media.

If you have a Lite-On, Benq or Plextor drive you can use Nero CD/DVD Speed and pop a burned disc in and select the disc quality tab. You can then do a quality scan.

Thing is that I can get (non-printable) MIS Verbatim or MIS Sony DL DVD+R for under $1.60 a disc. The last couple of times I bought it was actually under $1.30 a disc. That is a pretty steep price margin by comparison. Sorry about the confusion but I was comparing printable to non-printable of the same quality media.
-
Yeah, but I'll pay $1 more for the printable label.
-
I bought a 10 pack about 2 weeks ago from newegg and got the MIS Verbatim's and had no problems. So I bought a 20 pack a couple of days ago. I have to say newegg's shipping is FAST! Anyway I got the MII discs this time and was a little dissapointed. Only burned one so far and no problems but I will post later if I have issues. I am keeping an eye on officemax for a sale so I can hopefully pick my own MIS at the store. I will let everyone know when they have a sale again there.
Thanks for this thread. It saved me alot of money so far!

Yeah, but I'll pay $1 more for the printable label.
What a waste.
I suppose I could be really anal and start comparing the cost of Inkjet Refills to the cost of a sharpie marker, but to each their own.
@carwarr if you happen to have a microcenter nearby, you can save some cash AND sift through and find the MIS packs. If not you can still save over newegg by ordering from them.

Thanks for the infor jesterrace777. I did check out microcenter from reading your previos posts. I do not have one locally, but if I do have to order online again, that is probably where I will go.
I was placing another order online with newegg (open box 500G network drive for $124!!! What a deal!) and just thought I would chance it for the MIS discs again.
The only disappointing thing is the MII discs show up as MKM001 with DVDinfopro. I was hoping they would use a different ID so we could tell them apart after we burn them, but now I have to write (with a sharpie! hehe) MII so I can keep track for future failures. If the MII media ends up not being as good as the MIS, I am afraid it will start giving Verbatim a bad rap because the average person will not know what they burned in the first place.
Thanks again.

Well, I got 36 ink cartridges for Epson 320 Photo from Meritline for $16 shipped. That was at least a year ago, and I've only used six of them so far. I think I'll be ok on the ink.
The printed labels go a long way towards pleasing the wife...which is worth a lot, too.

Forgot to mention, best price at the moment...NextWarehouse.com has the printable 20-packs for $52.90, no tax, free shipping. $2.65 to back up a game isn't really a huge investment.

Yeah, most of us were kinda perturbed when it became known that the MII discs show up as the same manufacturer info. The only way to tell them apart is by looking at the country of origin on the spindle. Thus far the scans and the longevity on the MII discs have definitely fallen short of their MIS counterparts. Some of them burn pretty well (very similar to the MIS stuff) but a number of them are actually showing up worse than some of the other cheap quality DL media manufacturers. There were also several early reports of scuffed discs coming out of the MII spindles straight from the factory. I personally won't take a gamble on them unless they go on sale for less than $1USD per disc. Thing that really irritates me is that MKM (Verbatim) started doing this in order to help drive down the costs on production, thereby making the overall costs a bit cheaper for customers and increasing sales. Thus far I have yet to see any sales on Verbatim that beat the ones that have been going on for the last year or two, yet we are now subject to media that is overall inferior in quality to the guaranteed MIS MKM (Verbatim) discs that we were picking up a year or so ago. Here is an interesting read on some personal experiences with MII DL Verbatim:

Why not buy the ones from Microcenter then go to bestbuy and exchange them, or get store credit then buy them again? lol
-
Impossible. No Microcenter in my area so a pricematch would be out of the question and would only leave me stuck with MII Verbs.
-
Okay, just got the word that Best Buy will be having the 20 packs of DL Verbatim DVD+R on sale for $30 again starting the 21st.
-
jesterrace,
a couple of things,
is this for ALL best buys locations
are these the good Verbatims one made in singapore/taiwan
thanks for the heads up..
-
Yes they are good for all BB locations (at least in the USA). It's an advance notice on the weekly ad that they post nation-wide. As for Singapore/Taiwan: 1. There is no such thing as DL Verbatim made in Taiwan at this point, only MIS or MII (Made In Singapore or Made In India). 2. It all depends on what your local BB happens to have in stock. So it's all luck of the draw. My local store only has MIS.
-
so I want the MIS and not the MII if I go to best buy? How do you tell the difference?
-
Yes, MIS is the best bet for the money on DL media. As for identification, that's easy. Rotate each spindle around until you get to the part of the label with the UPC Symbol. Right next to it will give you the country of origin.

Since the above got moved, it makes no sense.
MicroCenter is where these are on sale in the US. $27 for a 20pk. Lucky me to have one down the street. You can probably get them on the website, but no assurance of MIS.
-
Not to mention you have to add shipping charges which makes them more expensive than the widely available Best Buy sale (20 for $30) which lasts till Saturday.
-
Thanks for the info guys. I had bought 3 packs at Best Buy earlier this week. When I got home to check where they were made, all of them said "Made in India"
So I went to the store this evening and found 4 Made in Singapore's
Needless to say, I now have 4 packs of some good discs.
-
I know im going to get flammed right away for saying this. I wen to best buy on monday and found 50 memorex dl's for $50 so I picked them up. I have never had any problems with memorex but just so you all know after hearing this i am going to go buy some verbatims.
Thanks for this info guys.

I got 2 20 packs from Futureshop at $30 each. They are MII. Burnt 5 games so far, not a single problem.
-
Thanks for this thread

All five BBuys here were sold out (I waited too long damnit.)
It was a fucking beautiful day out, decided to cruise 30 minutes over to a neighboring city. First Best Buy had two Indias and that was it
I drove another five minutes to the another Best Buy and out of maybe 20 spindles, two were Singapore. Woot. I exchanged my "identical items" for the Singapores. Got a funny look
GREAT SUCCESS <borat />
Nothing quite like like getting 40 games for the price one.

I did something bad
I had 30 Games not marked and I don't bother playing anymore. So i scratch up the bottoms of the DVDS and took out 30 brand new dvds and swap them out and took them back and said these where all bad. As first they where not going to give me my money back because they said they don't take returns of computer software. So I said fine went to the shelf to grab 2 more packs but there all out and they went ahead gave me my money back. So I got 30 brand new disc for free
. What I don't understand how can they call blank disc computer software? I still feel bad about it

Back on topic. There is a great deal on the Verbatim 8x official rated discs (MKM003). $28 for 15 discs. Good deal especially when you consider the fact that they are all made in Singapore, so no guess work.
http://www.microcent...duct_id=0259490
-
Once again, a stretch for this thread but for those of you with a Fry's in your area you do have a shot at a decent deal on the 2.4x DL Sonys. Keep in mind that SOME OF THE DL Sony DVD+R discs ARE MADE BY MITSUBISHI KAGAKU MEDIA IN SINGAPORE AND THEREFORE ARE THE EXACT SAME AS THE COVETED MIS DL VERBATIM DVD+R DISCS!!!!!!!!!!! So just be sure to check the country of origin and you can get a decent deal. 25 packs for $40. Definitely wouldn't order online though due to the odds of getting something other than MIS.

Yes and because thus far all of the 8x official rated media is still only trusted to the home plant in Singapore. @streetmedic any Verbatim DL DVD+R MADE IN SINGAPORE will be excellent regardless of quantity. Problem is that with ordering online these days it is impossible to tell weather you are getting the ones made In India or the ones made in Singapore. Not unless you order the 8x official rated ones which can be quite pricey unless you get them at the microcenter sale. @$tate those definitely are NOT MKM001. Looks like a lame attempt at a fake.

This may be a long shot but for people in the UK i just emailed SVP asking basically if they can either supply the country of manufacture on the website, or just stock the singapore verbs. Also asked if they can get any sony dl's made in singapore.
might work, might not, but worth a try
was gonna order some but as i just had a pack of 20 verbs off ebay that turned out to be MII and already two discs have messed up im not gonna bother and will try to find some in a shop so i can check what they are first!!

Wrong thread.
-
I know it's a bit OT but here is what I sent off to Verbatim:
To Whom It May Concern:
First of all I would like to congratulate you folks on setting the standard for quality Double Layer DVD+R media. No other manufacturer has come close to the quality and compatibility that your double layer media produced by your Mitsubishi Kagaku Media home plant in Singapore can.
With that being said, I do wish to voice concern over recent developments, particularly with your outsourcing some of your DL media production to Moser Baer in India. The initial reason for doing so was in order to lower production costs. Obviously this CANNOT be done without some sort of sacrifice in quality. You did this a few years ago with your single layer DVD media. In the case of the single layer media the process worked well as you were still able to maintain a fairly high quality product but you were able to drastically lower the costs and thereby make the single layer DVD media more affordable. In the case of your Double Layer media production however, I am finding it increasingly difficult to support your decision to switch. I remember a year ago when sales on your double layer media were widespread and one could easily find your high quality Singapore produced MKM001 DL Discs for around $1.40-$1.60 a disc between online deals and in store sales. However since the outsourcing of your DL media production to Moser Baer, I find myself feeling cheated on both fronts. Numerous reports will attest that the Moser Baer produced discs are of significantly inferior quality. Examples including scratched/scuffed discs from the factory, fingerprint smudges (from the factory), spotting in the dye and a huge disparity in PIF/PIE scans between the Singapore produced and Moser Baer produced MKM discs. The Moser Baer produced discs have a huge range in quality. From being close in quality to the Singapore produced discs to being far worse than the general quality and compatibility that can be expected from Taiwanese Manufacturers such as Ritek and CMC Magnetics. If you have taken a look at the track record of either Ritek or CMC Magnetics' DL media production, you know that they certainly are not any benchmarks for quality or compatibility. So to be faced with a product from you (that carries the Verbatim label AND PRICE-TAG) that varies so widely in quality is just unacceptable in my opinion. Couple this with the fact that the frequent sales that I enjoyed a year or so ago have all but disappeared and now I am lucky to find your discs in the $2 per disc price range and I no longer have the luxury of ordering online since I refuse to take the chance of playing russian roulette with your Moser Baer produced DL discs. Quite frankly they are just too expensive to take that risk. So from the point of the consumer, I feel not only cheated in terms of the quality and compatibility of your product, but I feel cheated in terms of the price I pay for it.
Once again to put this into perspective. Last year I was paying $1.40-$1.60 a disc for the highest quality DL media available and now I am lucky to find them for $2 a disc and am subjected to taking my chances with a manufacturer that clearly has poor quality control. I'm not saying your home plant in Singapore NEVER has any quality control issues, I am merely saying that the frequency of faulty and incompatible discs has increased much more so than it should've and thus far the customer is seeing no price benefit for the switch. I also understand that the average consumer is not a media enthusiast such as myself and knows precious little about name brand's outsoucing to different manufacturers with differing quality control standards. However, I am not alone and the number of folks who share my views grow with each passing day. I know that you have the ability to put pressure on both your manufacturers and the retailers. Let's see if we can't raise the quality standards or lower the pricetag (or maybe a little bit of both). I would like to be able to continue to recommend your products to people as being the benchmark of quality for media. Let's make it happen.
Thank You for your time.

For those looking there is currently an auction on ebay for 10 or 20 packs, MIS in the subtitle. 20 pack is $29.99 shipping is under $6 in the US, discount for extras. They ship internationally also, more expensive but they'll ship 2 packs for the price of the shipping for one. I just stocked up being these things seem to be getting harder to find. Still had 48 available after I bought mine. Auction ends this Thursday.
By the way nice email 'jesterrace777', I'll be interested to see if they send you any kind of real reply or just a canned email.

I order one pack of twenties about a month ago from this exact seller (but they mistakenly shipped me 2 20 packs....LOL), but I found out that they are made in INDIA and NOT in Singapore.
Well I'm NOT using a recommended pioneer burner (using the TSTCorp burner that comes with current hp laptops), but I have had problems with some of these discs. Sometimes the burned backups work flawlessly all the time, but then some other backups don't boot at all with these discs. Then there was this one time were it the disk couldn't be finalized during a burn.
So there are mixed results.
But at the same time the backups that were made from a 5 packs of Verbs 10x (or was is 8x) that I bought from Best Buy all burned and works perfectly everytime, and those discs were made in Singapore.
Now I'm not discouraging anyone from purchasing these, because i think they are a great deal. In fact I'd probably buy some more if I ever ran out.
-
Good to know. I will hold off on the purchase then. Not worth taking the risk of getting MII discs, when there are more guaranteed methods of getting MIS for around the $2 per disc mark. Incidentally COMPUSA has the 25 packs of Sony DL DVD+R for $50. Not quite as good of a deal but once again if you buy locally you can ensure that you get MIS by checking each spindle. As for the 8x MIS discs that you had good luck with, they are in fact the official 8x rated MKM003 discs WHICH ARE ALL STILL PRODUCED IN SINGAPORE. They are the only ones I would trust to order online these days but outside of the microcenter deal (15 for $28+shipping) they are kinda pricey.
-
bad news, just got my pack and they are from india and they are 2.4x not 8x
i just emailed the seller asking wtf is going on
-
seller responded and said he carries both india and singapore and doesn't check what goes out. he is sending me the singapore discs and will refund me cost of return. so anyone who is going to order from him - remember to put a note saying you only want singapore discs.

it will say where it's made on the wrapping by the upc code. the india ones work but the quality isn't that great. i've had 3 discs out of 20 that gave me a dirty disc error while i was playing

Do you recommend going through the send back and what not? If only 3 out of 20 gave you dirty discs error, it doesn't matter to me if I get to avoid another week of shipping and what not.

I think I have around 3 to 5 out of 20 that don't work properly, so if you don't want to wait and don't care about quality/money then I recommend not to send them back.

Some state that when it specifies only 6x speed that they are MII. That being said you could easily end up with either. Not worth it IMHO to take that kind of gamble when they are methods of securing MIS for sure for around $2 a disc.
*EDIT* Just noticed that the 25 pack deal of Sony DL DVD+R for $40 at Fry's is still going. If you have one locally and can find the MIS packs it is definitely the best deal currently out there.

update, seller sent me the singapore verbatims
-
Nice, but I'll bet he won't do that for everyone who asks.
-
Okay folks I found another "deal" on the DL DVD+R Verbatims. Not nearly as good as the sales we used to enjoy but for what they are and the fact that you are guaranteed MIS, it's not a bad deal. Was down at Bestbuy today and found the 15 packs of the 8x official rated Verbatims (All of the 8x official rated Verbatims are still produced by MKM's home plant in Singapore) for $30. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8007015&st=Verbatim&lp=12&type=product&cp=1&id=1155848825217
Couple that with the 10% off coupon that is available and you and you can get them for just under $2 per disc. Once again it's not the best price we have seen on MIS Verbatims, but given the lack of sales as of late and the fact that many locations are stuck with Made In India discs on the regular 2.4x ones, it isn't a bad deal.

Crap, attached the wrong coupon. This one should work:

Yeah, I was reading this thread the other night and then I went past Best Buy and picked up the 15 pack for 29.99 ..... I was just about to post the price tonight when i saw Jester was already on top of it. Regular price for same pack at Office Max was 39.99. I think that second link for a coupon is for 2005 though,
This is my first post in a couple of years and it's based on the fact that my old pal is championing this thread and apparently doing a damn fine job. Keep it up Jester.... good to see ya
-
Use the 1st 10% coupon. The other one is from 2005. You can get them for $26.99 + tax with a slow CSR considering the 10% doesnt apply for blank media.

Holly crap, how ya doing man? Long time no see. Anyways, sorry about the links being a bit off. They should still work though.

I use NCIX.com. Its a canadian online and local store. They have a pack of Verbatim 8.5GB Dual Layer DVD+R 2.4X 20 Disc Spindle for $22.99. Hope someone finds this useful.
Look for them at
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=19080&vpn=95310&manufacture=VERBATIM&promoid=1030
Good luck.
-
Unfortunately it's really only a solid deal if you can buy them locally since you run the risk of getting MII these days. Also it irks me that if you are in Canada you pay roughly $23USD for the 20 pack (through that NCIX link) and if you order through their US site, you pay almost $36USD for the same pack. Just proves that there is some kind of conspiracy starting to go on here in the US as far as DL media is concerned.
-
Hey just wondering are these any good. They are the cheapest I can find in NZ
http://c1com.co.nz/shop/step1.php?number=6955
Thanks for your input.
-
They are great as long as they are made in Singapore. Last time I checked though all of the 2.4x official rated Verbatim DL DVD+R THAT IS INKJET PRINTABLE is still made in Singapore, so it should be a pretty safe bet.
-
If I order the pack of 15 dvd+r dl off of bestbuy online will i be guaranteed to get the singapore made disks and not the india ones or will i have to physically go to bestbuy and pick out one?
-
@Crazylegsjr
You will be guarenteed Made in Singapore. The 15x orange spindles are 8x rated and are all made in singapore. You may want to head in a store though, b/c then you can use the 10% off any single item, bringing it down to $26.99 + tax.
-
As mentioned above they are all MIS for the official 8x rated discs. So that is the advantage of going with them. However, also as mentioned you won't be able to use the 10-12% off coupon so it will be just a bit more expensive if you order online.
-
It's a bit of a crapshoot again but here it is: Best Buy has the 25 packs of Sony DL DVD+R discs on sale again for $30. Remember that SOME of these packs are made by MKM in Singapore (same as the most coveted Verbatims that are out there). So it might be worth taking a look at that price. You will have to purchase locally and be sure to check near the UPC symbol for the country of origin.
-
Verbatim 20-Pack 2.4X for $30 at Futureshop. Sales ends Nov 29.
Got 2 packs MIS.

thats a great deal.. you mean that they are the same media as verbatim if I find one thats made in singapore?.
-
Yup, the exact same MIS MKM001 discs as the 2.4x official DL Verbatim DVD+R (made in Singapore, of course). Watch out for the ultra common Taiwanese made packs though as they are just rebranded Ritek which have very mixed results. Anyways not sure if this coupon will work as it doesn't specifically list media but it might be worth a shot. Here it is:

Wait so you are telling me that you found some orange label 8x official rated discs (15 packs) that were MII? I have never heard of this before so I would like some confirmation. It's a well known fact that the 2.4x official rated discs that overspeed to 8x are almost all MII these days but I have yet to hear of any reports of any 8x official MII discs.

No, sorry for any misinterpretations I caused, the Verbatims DVD+r DL with the "blue label" I saw at the Bestbuy stores in my area were 6x speed "made in India".
They did not have the 8x speed Verbatims.
I understand now that the Verbatims @8x speed DVD+R DL are "always made in Singapore" with the "orange label".
Thank You

No, sorry for any misinterpretations I caused upon anyone and myself, the Verbatims DVD+R DL with the "blue label" I saw at the Bestbuy stores in my area were 6x speed "made in India(MII)", i'm sure they were 20 packs.
I understand now that the Verbatims officially rated @8x speed DVD+R DL "15packs", with the orange label, are "always" made in Singapore(MIS). And, that the Verbatims officially rated @2.4 speed made in Singapore(MIS) are rare theses days, they are mostly made in India(MII)

Wow, triple post.
Anyways, glad you got that sorted. You were starting to freak me out as I thought Verbatim had really gone off the deep-end and outsourced their premier line to Moser Baer in India as well. That would truly be some scary media.
Yeah, the deal is that blue/purple label stuff is officially rated at 2.4x but should overspeed to 6x (used to be 8x when they were MIS) on some DVD Burners. The 8x official stuff will burn at 8x on any burner that supports 8x or higher and on some burners they will burn at up to 10x.

Like all of the other 2.4x official rated Verbatims these days, most of these are the new made in india discs. It is still possible to find some old MIS stock at some locations though. It's all luck of the draw. Definitely wouldn't chance an online order though.
-
Is the Media ID of MIS different from the MI India? Mine are MKM-001-00, and are MIS.
-
No unfortunately the media ID all shows up as the same on both. The only way to tell is the country of origin on the label. Anyways, here is an interesting story for one guy who got an absolute steal on the 8x official Verbatims. Check this out:

Won't change much either way. I haven't burned any slower than 4x and I have burned up to 8x with no problems on the MIS discs.

Have the made in india verbs made there way to the uk yet , as I aint seen them and haven't heard of anyone here getting any. I just recently got 25 discs from svp (5 boxes of 5 in jewel cases) and all are singapore , all the ones I've seen in shops have been singapore , I've never seen the india ones here at all.
Yet from the sounds of this thread , seems like they should be all over , but that doesn't seem the case here
.
Also svp have updated there description for the packs of 10 to say they are the singapore ones
.
"We've been sure to source only the stock that was manufactured in Verbatims Singapore factory, their premier factory for Double Layer production."

OMG, first I triple post then I type the media info backwards, insulting verbatim like that, it's not even funny. I wish I could fix that type error, I do not want to cause any confusion, hopefully others will catch that. So sorry, I must have been really tired or something.
I don't see them for $30 at Bestbuy, but, ifI am not mistaken I think I did see that deal before. I went to some Bestbuy stores in my area but they didn't have any in stock, there was only one Bestbuy store that had and they were 5packs. Geeez, that type error is really bothering me, what can I do to get that fixed.
That was really funny about insulting verbatim. BTW I spoke with one of the managers at Bestbuys and he was shocked to hear about the verbatims made in India. Maybe with enough complaints they would order the good ones.

Uh, it won't do any good unless Verbatim actually switches their 2.4x official DL media production back to Singapore. If major retailers and consumers start putting pressure on them about this though, we might see a switch but I doubt it.

BAM!!!!!!!!!!!! Here comes another great deal on the 8x official DL DVD+R Verbatim discs. Buy.com has the 15 packs for just over $31 SHIPPED. On top of that there is a $6 MIR. If in addition to that you can add a first time google checkout ($10 off for first time users) to it then you could potentially get this 15 pack for just over $15 SHIPPED AR and Google Checkout.

Nope they are still MIS it's just that Verbatim is now doing uniform packaging on their spindles. Been to Bestbuy lately and seen the new stock of 8x official rated discs which look exactly like the one I have linked and they are ALL MIS. Take the plunge without fear and get a great deal.

Actually it comes out to about $30 AR when you factor in shipping. Not worth it at all especially given the buy.com deal listed above on the 8x official media which is all MIS (the ones you have listed are almost all MII these days). $21.49 for 15 with shipping included and after using google checkout (so this is your total out of pocket expense to get it shipped to your door). $15.49 for 15 with shipping after getting the $6 Mail In Rebate.

Well, I guess Im just biased towards Newegg since shipping is less than a day for me for anything, so I always will use them. They have a warehouse about an hour and a half from my house so shipping is a non issue for me all the time, but that other deal is really good.
-
I think you missed the point that the 8x official stuff is all MIS (made In Singapore) and the 2.4x official stuff is all virtually MII (Made In India) these days, and their quality control standards aren't anywhere near what one got used to under the Verbatim label when they were all MIS. In otherwords they are essentially two totally different makes of disc.

Not bad, although the buy.com deal does work out to be better (especially if you use google checkout). *EDIT* just noticed that with shipping it works out to about $31. Not really worth it IMHO given the other deal going right now.
-
hey jest,
for the buy.com deal.. did they charge you a $2 tax?. also, the google checkout thing.. can u tell me more about that? is it free to sign up?.. thanks
-
You only get charged the tax if you live in California (where their main distribution center is located). As for the google checkout it is free to sign up for. You simply follow the buy.com links to it and sign up and then it will show you having a $10 discount.
-
When you apply for a rebate, do they send you a cheque for 6$ or cash?
-
It's always a check. Never seen a cash rebate (not to mention that would be unwise sending it in the mail). You will get the check in the mail after 6-8 weeks of filling out and sending in the rebate form.
-
Futureshop in Canada is having a sale on the 20 disc spindles for 19.99$. I actually got them for 15$ cause i bought them for 70$ before the sale and then i got the price difference back using price protection and also got 10% on top of that.
Getting the MIS spindles though is up to you. Some stores have them, some stores don't. You just have to go around and check or you call them up and ask them too.
-
hey jest,
i just got my from buy.com. shipping was super fast. but i gotta question on the rebate. i didnt see any rebate form that came with the package.. i assume they send the check later?

Futureshop in Canada is having a sale on the 20 disc spindles for 19.99$. I actually got them for 15$ cause i bought them for 70$ before the sale and then i got the price difference back using price protection and also got 10% on top of that.
Getting the MIS spindles though is up to you. Some stores have them, some stores don't. You just have to go around and check or you call them up and ask them too.

Are the made in India ones that bad or not as good?
how do they compare to the likes of Memorex, which by the way has never failed me (yet).

thanks...
No, go to the website and select the product and click on the $6MIR that they mention. It should give you a link to the MIR form and then you just print it out and follow the instructions.

Nice, but I'll bet he won't do that for everyone who asks.
This is about a month late getting back on this but in regards to the ebay sale I had mentioned he sent me 4 packs of MII. I emailed him & he was great about exchanging for MIS, he even paid the return shipping for the ones I had to send back. Not sure if he still has auctions for these things but if he does I wouldn't hesitate to order. I would specify that I wanted MIS to make things easier though.

Once again though, not worth it when you consider the buy.com on the 8x official (guaranteed MIS) discs that I mentioned. It is still running and it is definitely cheaper than what that guy is selling them for. You also have to consider that the 2.4x official discs are no longer in production at the Singapore plant so unless he has a bunch of old stock lying around he probably wouldn't be able to swap for much longer.

Well the buy.com price is up to just over $34 now & no mention of a rebate on the page. Looked at rebate section on site & saw other Verb. rebates but nothing for these. They do have free shipping though but if you've already used google checkout they're a little over $2 a disc.
The guy that had the auction I bought from still has 20 packs but they no longer say MIS anywhere on the page. He does however have 10 packs that are still MIS, not great price but not bad, about $21 w/shipping(discount for additional items). So once again about $2 a disc. I guess you could always email him and see if he could guarantee MIS for the 20 packs which would be a better deal then the 10 packs he has. I had a great experience dealing with him so if he has any old ones laying around he may help you out. Glad I bought 4 20 packs when I did!

So would the 35$ for the 20 Verbatim DVD+R Dual Layer DL 8x USPS Priority! on ebay by seller netsoftmedia be a good choice to be burning games at 2.4x speed at?

I just bought these http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16817130008from Newegg for $31.99 w/ Free 3 day shipping and an $8 MIR through Verbatim. Not a bad deal ending up @ $23.99. I have had good experiences with Newegg for as long as i have been dealing with them. Several years. So I have no quarrel recommending them.

True but virtually all of the 2.4x DL Verbatim these days are MII.
-
just ordered 50 unbranded 8x DVD+R DL for $59.95CAD. These are by Moser Bayer India, so I'll let you know how many coasters I get
. Just couldn't turn down that price, and MBI make media for verbatim now so... yeah, I'll just post results when I have them
-
Interesting. I haven't heard of MBI producing anything but the MKM coded DL Verbs (in terms of DL media, that is). If they are the MKM Verbs then you will either have great media or crappy media. It's all a roll of the dice.
-
tbh, with what I've read about MII media I'm not holding my breath. This will be more of an interesting experiment. If I end up with decent media, all the better!
-
i picked up a 2 20 pack spindle of verbatim DVD+R DL for 19.99 each at a store in Toronto

Anyone have any experience with the Verabitim Dual Layer Printable DVD +R's.
I love the Taiyo Yuden glossy printable single layers but can't seem to find any dual layer ones. I think the premium price is worth it for the glossy printable because they look fantastic.

I could care less about the looks since it goes straight from my folder to the 360 and right back into the folder, but as for what they are: Thus far all reports on the IJ Printable DL Verbatim are that they are still all made in Singapore. So you should be safe with purchasing them.

Those are all I use with the 360. They read well in the BenQ and ink nicely with an Epson printer. I wouldn't mind saving some money with another brand, but no one here ever mentions anything positive about another brand of dual-layer printables (probably because they get shouted down if they attempt to do so).

Or because they know that like their non-printable counterparts that results are mixed. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Singapore produced MKM is still the only universal DL media option out there.

thank you very much for this link. i was able to order through the Canadian site, and use the USA checkout option; they just changed the CAD to USD (19.99 USD vs 19.99 CAD). still significantly cheaper than US prices, just under $53 USD shipped for 2 stacks, compared to 35-40+ USD per stack + shipping & tax here in the US.
deal is over now for anyone else wanting to get in on it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

The site is actually letting me order still at that price. If I didn't insist on printables, I'd jump on it.

Looking for good deals in Canada. Went to microbytes, which here where I live is the answer to my electronic needs, and the Verbatims were 3$ each and the 20 disk spindle was 49.99$ So I backed off and decided to wait for some deals. Anyone find any please let me know

Check out http://www.svp.co.uk and take a look at the 8x official media.
-
Okay, this one is a stretch since it might be more hassle than it's worth but not bad if you are desperate to get some high quality MIS Verbatim for dirt cheap. Go to ebay and do a search for "dell 25 coupon" and for $1-$2 you can purchase a $25 off coupon for dell. Then go to dell.com and select 2 of the 5 packs of the 8x official DL Verbs:
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/product...mp;sku=A0651030
So a total of 10 discs for $30 and then add the $25 off coupon at checkout. Gives you the 10 discs for $5+$5 shipping. So it comes out to about $11-$12 by the time you purchase the coupon code and get the discs. Not bad considering it's $1.10-$1.20 per disc and you get that price up-front, no rebates.

i stopped by best buy recently and checked these out while i was there. there was one left over stack of MIS shoved to the very back of the shelf in the wrong spot, and the rest were MII.
probably not likely you will find a MIS stack at BB, but it may be worth a look if you are already there or in the area.

Does anyone have a link to a website in the US that sells the 8x versions for cheap? (Cheap to me is around $2 per disk). Or is there another brand of dual layer media people recommend as highly as MIS Verbatim? I'm sure Memorex sucks but there's gotta be a brand out there other than Verbatim known to work well in all 360's

The Verbatim 50 packs at Sams Club are MII discs and are spotty at best when it comes to quality. In my experience with them, maybe 1 in 4-6 discs will work for backups. I tried 2 50 packs and took them both back for refund.
I don't think I've ever had a MIS Verbatim backup that didn't work.

Hi All,
For the Aussies out there, I've found a spindle of 20 Verbatim DVD+R DL's for $55 at IT Destination in Sydney. I know in terms of world prices it's not great but I figure anything less than $3 a DVD is a good price in Australia.
Check out - http://www.itdestination.com.au - All the address details etc are on there but I don't think you can order online.
... And no, I don't work for them! I've been searching for a decent place to buy them for a while so I thought I'd share my findings.

That link has this "Verbatim DVD+R DL 8.5GB 8X Branded 15pk Spindle" for $34.24 shipped and you get what you get.
ebay has them a 20 pk MIS for $37.00 Shipped. not the 8x speed but what the heck. a little cheaper and you get the MIS.
-
All of the 8x official discs are guaranteed to be MIS, so no guesswork with the ones from buy.com. Not true with the 2.4x ones off of ebay, no matter what they claim.

Wait, you are telling me you got the 8x official discs and ended up with MII?
-
I went out and bought Verbatims' because of what i read here. Backed up the first game with no problem and then the second failed. I than relized that the dvds were made in india. I figured that that was why so i tried them in wifeys computer and they worked fine eveytime. So i tried them again on my computer and one was ok and one was bad. I finally figured out it was my sucky Samsung burner not the India disks.
I went out and bought several diffrent brands of DVD dl media memorex, tdk, etc and with my Nec 3540 fw v1.04 and wifeys Nec 3550 fw v1.08 at 8x speed, never one coster between us!!! So i think it has more to do with the burner than the media. So if you see a deal on DL Media I would jump on it. I got 50 Memorex for $34.
So far so good.
-
It has to do with MANY things. Burner, firmware, 360 DVD-ROM and firmware, the particular batch of media you got and where it was made, ect. There are so many variables with the non-MIS media which is why so many of us don't recommend it.
-
Microcenter - 20 Pack 2.4X Verbatim - $27.99
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_...duct_id=0236597
Now, these have the new outside on them however when I went in store they were "Made in Singapore" on the outer packaging. The top side of the disc is different than the older 2.4x but they appear to work just fine.
This is a great deal however I would suggest you go in person if you can just to make certain.
-
i noticed that the verbatim 8x from buy.com had customers saying that they are no longer MIS and that they are now shipping MII in the review section. can anyone confirm this?
-
Well I just bought a 50PK in person at Sam's club and while most of the packs were MII, I checked every single one and found 2 packs that were MIS, only bought one though. $70 for 50 discs there, a little bit cheaper than ebay 20 packs.
So if you want MIS I suggest going into a real store and just digging around...it looks like they all came from Verbatim in the same box but there were just randomly a few MIS spindles. Dunno if they're just clearing out old stock or if they'll still make more? Hopefully some badass new media comes out soon.
-
I may be the only one, but I just went through an entire 20pk of MIIs burned at 4x. Not a single coaster, and my Xbox plays them without a hitch...
-
while these arent verbatim, its still a good deal that i though is worth posting http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_...duct_id=0261498

-
this is really scary. all the ebay sales that say singpore have the blue&purple 2x4-6x packaging listed some even say the discs are 2.4 - 6x. Are they safe to buy?? also it seems now that the only way to get reliable discs is to go to bestbuy and get the 8x's that say singapore on them?? that is if you dont have a samsclub card, is that correct?? and it sounds like sams only has limited supply of singapore discs. Probably wont have them at all after a little while, I dont understand how all the companies are making discs that are very unreliable??? Is it getting to the point where we better buy about 100 of these discs cause we may be left with NONE eventually?? very scary.

Is it getting to the point where we better buy about 100 of these discs cause we may be left with NONE eventually?? very scary.
I have the same question. Has anybody tried the ebay sellers?
I may give them a try and if I do I will report back here. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

theres a guy on there netsoftmedia he says he is selling the verbatim 2.4 - 6x but he says some are india some are singpore he is only selling the singapore ones. I didnt realize you could get singapore with a spindle thats blue and purple?? also he gives the info screen for dvdinfo, could someone please tell me if these are safe to get as the good verbatims?? does it matter if it's the 2.4 x 6 as long as it's singpore??

Just get the 50 pack from Sam's. I'm pretty sure you can get a free 1 day pass if you're not a member. They're rated at 2.4x, but I actually just burned a disc at 8x, since burning the old discs at "MAX" would always stop at 2.4x in the past. I've never tried the Made in India discs (and probably never will), but they are MKM discs according to the box (Verbatim is an MKM company), so I don't know if they're quite as shitty as everyone says they are. The Sony discs are absolute shit though, so don't even waste your time. My Sam's had about 12-18 boxes of the Verbatims on the shelf, and it was probably 66% MII and 34% MIS. If anyone lives in the Melbourne, FL area, go get the discs while you can.

I bought a spindle off of ebay from netsofmedia. I was a little skeptical at first. If they weren't MIS they said I could send it back. Got it in a like 2 days and they were MIS. First disc failed verifcation but everyone after that worked fine.

Wait, you are telling me you got the 8x official discs and ended up with MII?
Yes, 8X and MII

for those in Canada, Futureshop has them on sale this week $24.99 for 20 discs, I got 2 spindles and they are MIS, just in time since I recently modded my xbox 360 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

future shop lowered them again, sale was $29.99 for 20 and they are now down to $24.99

sale ends the 19th

Nice find. Too bad I don't live in Canada. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I can confirm some mixed stock of MIS/MII for the recent futureshop 2.4x shipments here in Canada.
-
Office Max has Verbatim single layers and CD-Rs on sale, but dual layers are still regular price. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
Picked up 15 8x (can support 10x) MIS for $40. One more on shelf, MIS as well. 20 packs were half and half MIS and MII.
-
I can vouch that some of the Verbatim Blue and Purple 2.4x are in fact Made in Singapore. I bought 100 of them when I was at Microcenter. HOWEVER, this does not mean that all of them are. You need to inspect the packaging. I have seen other places that have the same Blue and Purple outside that are Made in India...
Consumer Beware!!
It is always best to check yourself.

Okay, so I ordered from them on Monday morning (last week) and got them on Wed morning. The discs were made in Singapore, as Advertised, and they worked perfectly in the 360, 100 percent boot and smooth playing. The only coaster that I got was when my computer gave me the WinXp BSOD while writing a disc.
Compared to the Verbs made in India, the India ones where a trial and error, not all the discs would boot and play perfectly. This made me realize that it was the discs fault and not the laser or the burner. Somewhat of a relief.

Yeah, it's kind of hard to find the text saying "Made in India" or "Made in Singapore" when the font size is like 1.

Just to let you guys know I ordered a spindle from Netsoftmedia. So far I have two discs out of the spindle that DO NOT WORK. The first one if you look at the bottom of the disc, you know how it's purple?? there is a little spot where it was like extra dark where the material in the disc was missing in a small spot. Disc burnt but crapped out while using it on 360. 2nd disc, burnt fine, no missing spots but if you look at the buttom of the disc there is like a moire like faint bendy lines in the material. I looked at the bottom of the discs that worked great, no spots missing, no moire, or if there was moire it was nearly as bad. So it's not the retailers fault, im just saying the purple spindles of verb made in Singapore, for me they have about the same crap out ratio as the verb indias.
The orange verbatims "which are nearly impossible to get at a decent price" are the only ones that work flawless for me so far. I wouldnt pay much for the Purple spindle singapore verb discs, for they have about the same quality as the india discs. And they look exactly like the india discs, if you look at the top of them, I dont think there is ANY diff in quality. Think about it, im about halfway through a 20 pack spindle and had 2 bad discs, thats no better than india purple spindle verb. Im sad to report this, but I wanted you guys to know. So as of right now it looks like we are stuck with getting about 10-20% coasters in our spindles.

Sorry to hear about your results.
Other than the disc that didn't burn right b/c my computer crapped out on me, all 14 out of 20 discs have worked flawlessly.
I hope none of the remaining 5 discs go bad.
In my opinion, I would blame the 360 drive for being so sensitive about reading any type of disc, where any random optical drive could read that disc perfectly.
-
Yeah the 360 drive is defenitly to blame, it's funny because my friend brought over a Nexxtech DVD +R DL I know these are generic, super generic. I burnt something on it, put it in my regular DVD player, played flawlessly, my 360 couldnt even detect I had a disc in. But still I just wanted to let you guys know, the singapore purple label spindles are no better than inda, I have also had india spindles that worked great, some not so great. But all the orange 8x Verbatim spindles worked 100% for me. I mean you can spin it any way you want, but the Purple packaged verb spindles are garbage, even the singapore one.

Kinda OT, but Sony disks are like memorex/fuji and all the other non-oem brands in that they source their disks from various manufacturers. Sometimes Sony is Verbatims, sometimes they are others - one thing is different though from Sony and the others, the others grab the cheapest they can get (aka: the manufacturer wouldn't sell them as their own brand) and Sony tends to grab grade A only.
----
Just to put in my 2cents on the purple ringed verbatims (though not from that particular supplier), I picked up a 20 pack of 2.4x MIS with the new labels last week when they were on sale at futureshop and I can say they aren't nearly as good as the 8x disks (common consensus from most media forums is that the 8x ones are indeed the best ones currently), but they are definitely not anywhere close to as junky as the MII 2.4x ones with the old label (if you want to see the quality scans to prove it, just let me know.) 1 of 20 has a visible dye defect and I won't bother to burn it, no surface marring on any of them unlike the previous MII pack I had around Christmas time. One thing I do notice is the labeling on the disks is not as crisp as other verbatims I have used, almost like they applied a glossy layer over top of it.
The "moire" pattern mentioned above, if that showed up only after it was burned it is usually termed "propellering", which meant the disk wasn't balanced when it was burned (sometimes the disk is just bad, sometimes it is crud getting on your disk or your drives' spindle.) Otherwise, yeah, it was just a badly made disk that made it past QC.
-
The Verbatim 2.4x printable Made in Singapore discs still work like a charm for me. Burnt using either Pioneer 212 or Sammy 203B at 4x
-
I dont know about you guys but I dont trust any of the new design verbs. I would rather spend the extra money on the 95484 15pk and know that what I am getting.

Futureshop canada has 'em on again, 24.99/20 pack. Buyer beware (check the labels for MIS and keep digitalman42's experiences in mind, though around here him and his two buddies seem to be the only ones with issues)
digitalman42: burn at 4x, count 95% success rate as pretty darn good, and try a burner that has never had a dual layer burned if you are still getting issues.

So I bought another 20 pack from NetSoftMedia.com and so far all the backups work fine except one. I was playing the game and got the Dirty Disc error. Check the bottom of the disc and sure enough the dye color was not evenly the same close to the center of the disk. Looked like a circular, purple water puddle.
I'm not saying the site is bad or anything, but so far 19 out of 20 from both packs (assuming this current pack does not give me anymore problems)

Strange as here in the US, the MII are fading out and the MIS are becoming more common. Guess we know where they went. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) Anyways the 2.4x D/L Verb 20 packs are $25 shipped at newegg right now:

is it a problem if it says verbatim 8X ? I mean you can still just set the writing speed to 2,4 right?
yeah, as long as they are the made in singapore ones you should be fine, my first pack was a 8x set with hard cases which even said it would support up to 10x speed on compatible burners, which i had at the time, but i used them to burn images at 2.4x and they all worked flawlessly, my most recent pack was a 20 pack that only said 4x i think, like the ones people are linking to at newegg, good ones if they are made in singapore
-
Honestly there really is no reason to go with 2.4x burns on Verbatim. I've always burned at 4x or higher and never had an issue (as have many others on this site).
-
All this talk about MIS and MII... where can I find this info on the package?
Finding if it is made in Singapore or India is easy enough so...
Just picked up a 15pack of 8x Singapore, so now I want to figure this MIS and MII out.
Help please.
A question for my first post is fitting, no?

MIS stands for Made in Singapore and MII stands for Made in India.

Futureshop just had them on sale, 15 for $19.99. I grabbed 2 packs but now wish I had grabbed a few more. They usually go on sale about once every month to month in a half. If you NEED discs now, just grab a small amount, or single to get you by until a decent deal comes up.

Many people may disagree but i think that many other discs besides Verbatim will work. I do see the fact that some Memorex or othere cheaper ones do not work at all but i also think many cheaper ones do

For those who are located in Canada. Future Shop is currently selling Verbatim 20-Pack 2.4X 8.5GB/240Min DVD+R Double Layer Spindles for $24.99 each. That works out to $1.25 per disc, before taxes. Their website states that they're currently sold out, however, I called my local Future Shop, and they had six spindles in stock. I purchased five spindles myself, and they were all made in Singapore. Here is a direct link to the advertisement:

I managed to grab a 20 pack of verbatim DVD+RDL @ 2.4x 8.5GB for $24.99 at futureshop.... I normally dont deal with these pricks and just goto a custom pc store in my neighborhood, but they were closed on sundays and i wanted to try my new xbox w/ a flashed reader and so i went there.... i noticed the 8x were like 60$ for 20 pack.... iuno mine worked great... my dvd burner only writes dual layer at 4x... but i noticed on the package it sayed it can do up to 6x... Iuno they work fine, burnt 7 games so far (wraped one already too haha) and all fine.... I have also used a maxell disc for a game and it seemed to work fine (i like maxell I use there dvd'rs for my wii and data backup... back in my psx days i used verbatim and maxell cdr's they were the best).

i dont really see what the fuss is about if theyre from singapore or india tbh :\
The manufacturing process is completely different. The layering which makes the Verbatim MIS discs the best DL discs available is not reproduced in any other facility in the world. That's why Verbatim MIS are better and more expensive. It's worth my peace of mind to pay a few cents extra.

I tend to use Verbatim DVD+R Dual Layer Print disks and I haven't had a problem yet.

With the only objective to
support the backup effort of the members with information to access adequate media at a price that is equivalent (or sometimes better) than some of the lower quality media, we could post here any deals we might see on the Verbatim +R DL Media.
In the context of how this barely fit in the scope of this forum, we must accept some rules:
1) All
X-S rules are in effect.
2) When you see a good deal on verbatim and
that you are not the party selling, plse post it.
3) If you own the DVDs or work for a party selling the dvds, then you are not allowed to post in this topic. In that case please go the B/S/T forum and post there (read carefully and comply to the rules of that forum).
4) Do not ask "Hi, Where can I find ... I leave in..."
without searching the thread first or your post will be removed.
5) Do not post about other brand, unless it is one of the rare case of Verbatim inside (MKM00x)
The posts in this thread are obviously
For Your Information only and anyone choosing to conduct any sort of transaction with any of the parties mentionned does so at their own risk and expense.
Enjoy, get the good stuff, it is worthed

.
Note: There are sites like
CDFreaks.com that are focused on CD/DVD/Burner and where you can find far more extensive information on DVD media and burner bargains (
CD Freaks Bargain Basement).
WARNING: It was mentionned in another thread recently (and in some indutry sites including
verbatim-outsources-double-layer-dvd-production-to-india ), it seems verbatim will start outsourcing part of his DVD +R DL production to MBI (Moser Baer India). You should start seeing these on the shelves end of Q1 or early Q2 2007. The current unconfirmed news are that they will continue to produce at their Singapore facilities as well. No word yet whether the production of the respective facilities will be assigned by region or not. It would be good to start looking at the label and search for a "Made in Singapore"

.

There are other e-mails in the correspondence I had with the company that posted the listing in amazon which I did not include because I didn't think they were important. In one of those e-mails, the rep stated that the they were going to have the listing changed as soon as possible.

I occasionally check out Meritline.com for DVD+R DL's. ATM they don't have a deal, but when they do it's usually $31.99. Of course it works out best when you get 3 packs of 30 because the shipping is the same regardless, if you have the money.

SAMs club 50 pack of mis for 59.69 and it's a all the time price

I'm wondering if anybody's tried using Amazon's new media?
http://www.amazon.co.../ref=pd_sim_e_6
I know it's never good to go cheap, but $31 for 50 seems too good to pass up on.

Just searched through the reviews and 4 of the reviews say that the disc works fine with 360 burned at 4x. Its still cheap media so i would really only use them if you are backing up to a harddrive.

I too agree they work great just picked up some

New egg has them for $1 a disk.... $19.99 + free shipping for a 20pk..... limit 5.... i picked up 5 ... lol

In the UK, will all 43666 (10-pack) and 43667 (25-pack) be MIS or can that not be relied on?
I normally use SVP, who state these sort of things, but they don't seem to be selling them at the moment and I can get them with free (or very cheap) P&P from other sites at the moment.
-
20pk at Office Max for 25.99. They appear to have the best deal i've seen on the verbatims. They are on sale right now for the same price as the 10 pack they have in store so this should not be a hard decision. And it's the new packaging I get a funny feeling about the "offbrand" looking packaging on the ones they have on newegg are they the same or better does anyone know?

That offer had expired, and the 20-pack Verbatim discs were 25.99 with 3.99 shipping or something, but now they're at 24.99 with free shipping! I'll be getting at least 2 packs! Best Buy locally had them for $28-29 last time I was there.
