Title: Verbatim Dvd+r Dl
Post by: srath on January 03, 2007, 08:01:00 PM
Ok, I have use 2 kinds of verbatim DL disks. 1 is good the other is crap.

The good ones are: Product ID # 95310
The bad ones are 95311

Found out the hard way wasting many.
The 95311 are exactly the same as memorex disks all using Ritek media code.
The 95310 use MKM
Also I found that buring a 4X works much better on all media. Even if it is only rated at 2.4X

Hope this helps people that are buring coasters

PS: My burners are a Plextor PX-716 and a Liteon SHW-160P6S
Work perfect on both after swithing to MKM media type.
My XBOX is v78 Hitachi

Ok, just fisished reburning a few games, All start 100% now
the 311 came in a Box of 5. Bought them from Staples. I acually did a search on what media they used thats how a found out about the 310's. Though I would try them a man am I glad I did now before I bought more 311 or memorex discs. They both say advanced AZO  on them, but the 311 are rated at 8X and the 310 are rated at 2.4X. But, I read somewhere to burn them at 4X and they work much better. So i did, now I cant tell no difference at all between the originals and backups

I got some Verb last week and I was suprise to see my dvd writer show MKM. Its printable standard dvd+r Dl from supermedia. I was kind of pissed at first because my drive said MKM not Verbatim. Guess I got good one. The same brand was made by in either Taiwan or singapore. Mine was made in Singapore. Its 95310.  tongue.gif
Manuafacturere stated 2.4 x to 6x. I updated firmware to both my sony dru 800a and samsung 164L but still burn at 2.4x.  sad.gif

Hi rahula,
we are a bit off topic, but you could consider (at our own risk  biggrin.gif ) to crossflash to a liteon (I believe it is 1693) fw. They may be more advanced.
go to cdfreaks liteon forum if you want that.

Try burning at 4X, I noticed the games seem to run way better than the ones I burned at 2.4X on the exact same media..

Ok, apparantly Dynex DVD+R DL  has the MKM-001 media code as well. They sell them at BestBuy and Future Shop. Be sure to get the ones which have an unbranded top surface.

Yes it was, look on the back of the box just above the barcode. It should have a reorder number. If it is #95311 they will give you greaf big time. Get the 20 pack spindle, they are the 95310. Those are the ones you want.

Okay folks, time for a little eddycation about Verbatim D/L media.  First of all Verbatim is owned by MKM or Mitsubishi Kagaku Media, so the current D/L media that is made in Singapore carries the MKM media ID code, so it is 100% authentic.  Anyone know where the Dynex media is made?  If it isn't made in Singapore and it carries the MKM001 code then it is fake.  As far as the Taiwanese made Verbatims go, I have yet to hear of any reports of that for D/L media (they definitely do it for single layer media though).  The 5 pack in the orange case are in fact MKM003 made in Singapore which are the official 8x rated D/L media (although the vast majority can burn the 2.4x official rated MKM001 media up to 8x with no trouble).

i have two of the dvd+r dl verbatim 3 packs and some burn good and some are coasters?? The box has the reorder # 95014, but the individual jewl cases have reorder# 94912. They are made in Singapore.. So what should i do to determine if these are good or not. Good thread! good way to not throw money away on future coasters. Also i've been burning at 2.4 is 4x really better ? thanks guys

Try at 4X It seems on my burner when it starts on the second layer it is way smoother at 4x, at 2.4x it made noises and the burns had about 5% sucess rate. I also noticed my XBOX seems to sound just like the originals when it boots, no more laser seeking. Now since I swithed to the MKM 001 and burn at 4X, I have had 100% sucess. I burned them  at 4x, I ran out of my other discs befor I tried at 4X, am very curious to know.

I have only seen them in the 20 pack cake box spindles. Just make sure the product
# is 95310. They are for sure the MKM 001 disks. The MKM 003 do not work very good. I just never could accept the fact that Pioneer was that the only burner that could write properly for the 360. Also everyone says use Verbatim, thats true, just make damd sure they are the right ones. And the 2.4X write speed thing, from what I read these DL disks perform best when written to at 4X.  And after I seen how succesful I have been after basically wasting 8 of the other discs. I will stick this way, and just wanted to share wilth everyone else. So please report back how it works for you.

I buy my 95310's in 20pack spindles from microcenter... fairly cheap...
I currently burn all backup discs at 4x in an NEC burner... 100% success rate, game load time is excellent, no noisy disc seeking that I can hear.  I want to know if anyone is successfully burning good backups w/ this media at 8x.  I was thinking about getting an 8x DL samsung or NEC burner, just cause I hate waiting half hour for a damn burn.... thats like... bringing me back to copying dreamcast game days  jester.gif

I heard anything over 6x the quality starts to degrade. I think for anything else it would be fine but on the 360 it is very fussy, so I would stick to 4X.
As far as the Dreamcast days, this is almost the same. Instead of an ip.bin its a ss.bin, and video instead of a 3 sec audio.
