If your focus is Xbox360 I would say pioneer (or liteon which is also a good scanner) before a NEC.

Thank you guys !! I am going to get pinoeer from newegg.com (its cheap too). Do I have to Flash the pinoeer eventhough its brand new ??

Only if you want to do x360,  the bitset for double layer is already Dvd-ROM.

If you also want bitset at dvd-rom for single layer (good to backup dvd movies) then flash it to 8.29 and you will get bitset on both sigle and double layer.

I just ordered the Pinoeer D111 black dvd drive, SATA pci non-raid card (VIA VT 6421L), VB-blank media and one extra SATA cable  from newegg.com !!! Can't wait to flash my samsung drive.

Yup a stock 111 will be fine for 360 applications (and many others).  NECs latest models haven't been as good as some of their predecessors and the 18x speed is going to be worthless in the vast majority of cases.  I owned several burners capable of 16x and usually 12x is about the max speed you can go on single layer discs without getting too many errors (even on 16x discs) and of course 18x does nothing for your D/L discs.
