I have a Hitachi 47DJ and Memorex work like crap on my drive...on my friend's drive (Hitachi 47DH) they work better but not flwlessly compared to Verbatims. I gave up on Memorex long ago...hate that sh*t =/
thats what pot adjusts are for. the samsung can read any type of media from my experience and be fine, but when you put cheap media into a hitachi, it dosent like it, and you dont wanna ruin your laser from a pot tweak! so i would allways use verbs, to be safe in every situation!

So...if you want to keep your stuff for a few years, don't by memorex.
So basically if I understand you correctly, even if my Memorex's work fine now, I will have issues in the future? If that's true, I know now why they were on sale...

Memorex is the worst Media in the world.
That may be true based on your findings but half the time when I run into a store in my area..this is all they have to choose from along with Fuji discs. So far I have not had a single problem with any of my backups (knock on wood) and I will continue to use them.
Want to hear something funny..
I've actually had more problems with Verbatims than Memorex. This is for making Xbox360 backups.
They seem to work fine for other media backups or storage. Still, I'm not going to tell everyone on the board to stop buying Verbatims because they don't work for me.

Lets put it like this, the 200 dvd's i burned with Memorex media only 9 work today, and this was 3 years ago I burned them at slow speed and kept great care of them. So...if you want to keep your stuff for a few years, don't by memorex. If i have a choice between memorex of nothing, its nothing
I have CD-R's that have been sitting in a spindle and well taken care of that are memorex. I also have some that I use for audio CD's in my truck that I listen to quite a bit. Many of them are over 5yrs old and they play just as good as the day I burned them. I also have quite a few (more than 9) DVD movies backed up that play and have played in various DVD players. The media that was used was Memorex.
QUOTE(tmgcomp @ Dec 28 2006, 10:43 AM)

don't by memorex.
I'm sorry about your luck with Memorex but they do work and until I experience the problems that you claim, I will continue to use this brand. The only time I've had a disc stop working was due to "Label Peeling".
One question. Are you referring to just using Memorex media in general for DVD's or everything in the world that we backup on memorex media is going to suddenly stop working within the next 3yrs..? CD-R's..? DVD's..? DVD+R DL's..?
BTW it's "Buy" not by

Hello All,
Before I ever got into the XBOX modding game I became much more involved in "backing up" dvd -9's to Dvd 5's. You learn quite a bit about good media burning something close to 2000 dvd's over the last three years. I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt Memorex is the worst Media in the world. It is made by multiple manufactores that memorex contracts with. You never know what you are going to get. Also most of the time it made by CMC, look them up and see the ratings people give them.
Actually Ritek makes the D/L media for Memorex as of right now, but you are correct that you never know what to expect from one batch to the next. The Samsung definitely is more forgiving for media but it still can't fix all of the quality control issues that Memorex discs are known for. I don't know that I would call Memorex the worst stuff out there (I can think of several Chinese/Hong Kong Manufacturers that are worse) but they definitely would be among my last choices if I was forced to pick up media.
