Title: Will The Sh-d162c Still Work As An External Usb Drive?
Post by: 328iGuy on November 14, 2006, 06:38:00 AM
Good question, however you generally leave it on Master when you put it in an external case.  So I assume it will work without an issue.  Can't hurt to try.

I have a case at home I should try it one day just to see....hmm.....then I could rip from my laptop!

I don't suppose you would try anytime soon ? lol....I dont' want to go buy a external case or adapter and waste it if it doens't work

I probably wouldn't have time until this weekend to give it a try unfortunately.

You could always return it anyway!  cool.gif

Confirmed, I have used both a SH-D162C (ripping) and Pioneer 111D (burning) in an external USB enclosure and they work fine.

I did, yes.  Most USB enclosures state in their instructions to set the drive to master.  smile.gif

i use a vantec usb to sata/ide adapter. it is not an enclosure, but it came with an external 4p molex psu so i can also flash my hitachi drive with the same adapter and i never have to open my pc case either...
