if i have someone else flash my 360 are there any burning programs that will work on a mac to burn backups?
-
Possibly, but I do not think there is any way to rip the games.

backing up shouldnt be an issue, I have a pc I can use but its sitting in a closet with no monitor. my mac is the only thing with a dual layer burner right now, so I would be able to backup using the 360/pc tower via remote desktop and then copy image to the mac. just trying to find out if there is some way to burn on the mac before i go through all this trouble
-
If I were you, I would get a cheap dvd burnner like the Pio 111D and install it into your PC. Then use RDC to connect to your PC from mac and burn the image.
That should be the easiest way.
You can install XP on your Mac (if it is the new intel based one) and burn the image that way or you can try to runn Parallels inside the Mac OS and try to burn that way using Xbox Backup Creator.

Well, here is some instructions on burning in linux. This could work on mac, but I don't know if the right apps are included for OSX.
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=537638
Of course, you might be able to just use the Disk Utility to burn also. IDK about the bitsetting though. Probably best to use bootcamp (if you have an intel mac) to boot windows, or a virtual machine that will allow you to use the burning hardware.
-
I have a similar problem.
I have an intel imac with xp installed. Im having real trouble burning backups and getting them too boot. I have done a lot of modding in the past, but this is my first attempt with the 360.
Anyway in my house there is me and my housemate. I ahve the iMac, he has an old xp pc. His pc has a dvd burner but it is single layer, therefore cant burn the backups. However we can use his pc to rip the xbox games (and flash the 360 firmware, though a friend did mine as at the time didnt realise we had the right connections on housemates pc, heh)
Long story short though, only duel layer burner we have is the iMac. I know its possible after searching around to burn 360 backups with bootcamp on a mac, but neither of my 2 attempts have worked. Im using traxdata discs which is what my friend recommended, but I know its possible that they may not be right for my burner.
When I put the backups in the 360 though I dont get the message "to play this put in a 60 system...etc". It says "eject disc" on the tray icon on the dash, and nothing else. its bizzare. I have no idea where im going wrong.
Im using clone cd in xp on my mac, and treating it as a windows pc.
Im in the process of burning an ttempt at my second backup of marvel ultimate allience right now though to check if I jsut ripped the original image incorrectly, and will let you know hw it goes.
-
well I am home now, and verified that my iMac does not have what is needed to use the linux instructions. I think the applications could be compiled in the mac environment though. I need to fix the XP install under boot camp, so I can attempt to try that route as well.
Just for everyone's Informational purposes, the Dvd burner in my iMac is a Pioneer DVR-K06 with firmware revision Q609.
-
What iMac is it that your using? My iMac is a core duo "20 and has a matshita drive, which is the one I found confirmed working.
-
so you did get a working backup burned?
mine is also a 20" iMac Core Duo
-
Nope, it failed again in the same way. its weird how both my spliter cell and marvel backups are giving me the same error in the 360 (just not recognised, says "open tray")
It leads me to believe its one of 3 things.
My booktype isnt been set right (downloaded xbox backup creator to burn and states booktype as dvd+r dl)
My media simply isnt compatible
My rips are been done incorrectly.
Im going to try again now with a different booktype setting at the start, though i checked the booktype of the burnt discs and it does show as dvd-rom.
-
you can use dvdinfopro to check the media type and the book type. the media type will stay dvd+r DL, but the book type should say DVD-ROM.
Anyone know if toast can set the layer break?
found this thread on afterdawn:
http://forums.afterd...view.cfm/355006
-
Well, my third attempt failed. The 360 isnt recognising the discs as been in the drive at all.
I dont think it is the bit setting, as on the burnt discs dvdinfo shows them as book type DVD-ROM. They do appear to be burning fine. Im left believing all it can really be is the media im using. I need to get hold of some vertabim discs to test with I think.
I'll have to see if I can get hold of some tomorrow to test with and let you know how I get on.
-
Turns out I did succesfully burn the backups, its my 360s drive.
I tested by backups on a friends pre-modded 360, and they worked fine. It has a samsung drive however. This prooves it has to be a problem with my drive.
I dont know what firmware my friend is using and he wont let me take his 360 apart to check, but its obviously a samsung one.
I have also tested a backup made using a vertabrim disc on friends LG burner, and this worked fine on my 360. So my drive is flashed ok.
My next step is to try that mod that stops the "open tray" error, as that is what im getting.
But one thing is that I can confirm that a core duo imac can burn 360 games, even though it is through xp
-
QUOTE(gimpymm @ Nov 2 2006, 08:37 PM)

But one thing is that I can confirm that a core duo imac can burn 360 games, even though it is through xp
and I think that at the moment that is really the only way it can be done. Toast 7 definitely does not have a way to manually set the layer break. Another problem may be that there is no raw data buring either. It always opens the image, and thus only sees the Video partition. I have tried running ImgBurn in Crossover Mac, that did not work either.

Well, some success. There is a new burning app in beta call disco (http://www.discoapp.com). It seems to have burned the entire image, but it has some algorithm that automatically distributes the data even across the two layers. Maybe I can make a request to have a manual layer break added. Oh yea, there is not Bitsetting either, but I am not as concerned with that at the moment.
Anybody know how to control bitsetting on the Mac?
-
Well I successfully burned a backup in Windows (using Boot Camp) and ImgBurn. The Drive seems to be auto bitsetting, at least on this Pioneer drive I have, which seems to be different than what others may have.
-
Anyone know if the drive can be flashed through linux? As you can apparently burn games on linux.
Was thinking of investigating ubuntu/kubuntu to see test out the 'growisofs' thing.
link
But thats useless unless I can mod my firmware lol
Gff.

There has to be some tools that can be ported into Darwin. I mean it is Unix afterall. Has anyone looked at what is offered by Gentoo for OSX or Darwin ports?
I am sure that a live cd could be made with the tools included to burn (and possibly rip games in the future, although I don't think there is anyway to mount the Mac Volume under linux).
-
Ive looked through darwin ports to no avail and you can mount mac partitions in linux as read only cos ive done it before.
I also thought of trying a live cd would be so handy having a live cd purely for doing 360 stuff.
Gff.
-
I was also hoping team xecuters x360 usb device would allow me to use virtual pc to flash the drive in windoze.
Cant find anything regarding this in the forums.

I have seen a few threads regarding this, and it seems that USB is not emulated properly in the virtual machines.
-
I managed to flash my Shd162c Drive by connecting up a usb to ide adapter.
It did register as usb 1.1, don't know if this would be problem with the sata to usb connecter.
I was using iBook G4 running 10.4.8 and Virtual PC 7.0.
I don't have a hitachi drive to test.
Hope this info is helpful.

Well good to see it can be done in VPC.
I ran across some information that led me to believe that the "growisofs" command may have been in earlier versions of OSX. I found this source file (http://fy.chalmers.se/~appro/linux/DVD+RW/tools/growisofs.c) but there are a few build errors when trying to use gcc to compile it.
There is also another ports-like service for OSX called Fink, I have reason to believe that the growisofs command is included with a package form there, so I will be looking into that.
-
ok i am stupid. get this package: http://fy.chalmers.se/~appro/linux/DVD+RW/...ools-7.0.tar.gz
You can then extract the source files and build all the tools. (To do that, open a terminal and navigate to the extracted directory and type 'make'. You need to have gcc and g++ installed to build the programs, so it may require Xcode to be installed) Since growisofs is a front-end to mkisofs, then you must have cdrtools installed as well for it to work properly. It can be installed with darwinports ('sudo port install cdrtools' in the terminal).

Alright, done. I got a good backup. Here is the command I had to use from the directory that the ISO was in:
CODE
growisofs -use-the-force-luke=dao -use-the-force-luke=break:1913760 -dvd-compat -speed=2 -Z /dev/rdisk1=Game.iso
You will have to change rdisk1 to whichever device is your DVD Burner (My hard drive is rdisk0)
-
wow nice job.
Ive installed all the relevant software now just needa get the x360 usb which I could try with VPC or use the boss's XP laptop. And some DVDR DL discs.
Thx
x360 usb
That tutorial seems good and I needa figure which firmware to use.

Anyone got it to work with a Matshita DVD-R UJ-846. I have a MacBook Pro 17" (Intel), running 10.4.6 and Windows XP SP2 under Bootcamp.
Tried CloneCD / IMGburn under Windows (I have specified the layer break)
Tried Toast under Mac OSX
DVDInfoPro states that this DVD Writer doesnt support 'Bitsetting', many guides states as long as u set the layer break it should still work. It doesnt work for me.
Please Help
Thanks
-
what firmware do you have on your xbox? The latest firmware doesn't really care about the bitsetting...
Toast will not set the layerbreak where you want it, so quit trying to use it.
You should be able to burn the .dvd file with ImgBurn under windows. If you have issues with it after that, then you probably are not backing up correctly, or the burner is not going to make a good copy. I do not have one of these drive (as you can see in my earlier posts...) so I cannot comment on whether it will work or not.
how are your backups "not working"? (Error?)

Thanks to all for your work on macs. I'd like to keep this thread alive and throw in another question.
B4tm4n said, QUOTE
I managed to flash my Shd162c Drive by connecting up a usb to ide adapter.
and this thread (http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=563014) confirms that the Sh-d162c will work as an external drive. So I'm thinking I can get an Sh-d162c and put it in an external enclosure to use for ripping my originals.
That same thread (http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=563014) confirms that a Pioneer 111D in an external enclosure works for burning backups. I'm assuming other burners will also work externally if they've been proven to work as internal drives (see the compatability thread: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=538258)
I've got a macbook with a combo drive, and I can run windows via parallels (or vpc or bootcamp). If I use external dvd drives for ripping and burning, would I be wrong in assuming that I could follow the teamunderdog tutorial (http://www.team-underdog.com/howto.html) for burning backups?
-
IDK how it would be any different.
-
The only thing I'd point out is if your using VPC the usb ports report to be 1.1 and run at that speed, ok for ripping mayby not so good for burning. Don't know about bootcamp I've a PPC Mac . Not sure if its different on an intel Mac.
-
Good point b4tm4n. VPC and Parallels both have that problem of not supporting usb 2.0 (yet). I'd much prefer to use Parallels instead of bootcamp, but I just researched it a bit and it looks like bootcamp does support usb 2.0.
So, I'm thinking this setup might be one possible mac solution:
An intel mac running bootcamp.
NME-360 Modchip (v. 1.2) in Xbox360.
SAMSUNG SH-D162C DVD drive or a Samsung SH-D163A DVD drive for ripping (unfortunately, these are both DVD/ROM drives and neither one is capable of burning) in an external enclosure and connected to mac via usb.
LiteOn SOHD-16P9S or some other DVD drive capable of burning (NME v. 1.2 will support Pioneer 111 now), also in an external enclosure and connected via usb to mac.
I'd prefer to do things through my PPC G5, but I can't get past the first problem, which is flashing the firmware on my xbox360's samsung drive. I've been waiting for an X360USB that will work with the samsung drive, but it doesn't look like that will be coming any time soon, if ever. Plus, I'd still run into the problem of vpc on my g5 not supporting usb 1.1, wouldn't I?
If I get to the proposed setup above any time soon, I'll post the results.
-
I'm quite a new Mac owner and far as I understand, wouldn't it be better to connect the burning Drive via firewire ?
I have been led to believe firewire is more reliable than USB.
-
You're right, firewire is faster. I have an external enclosure with usb 2 and firewire, so I can test them both.
-
do you not have a superdrive? Why can't use that to burn instead of an external drive?
-
Thats what I'm wondering. I got my 360 modded today with the latest firmware. Now its just knowing if the Matshita UJ-846 dual layer in my mac mini can infact burn games in windows (using bootcamp)
anyone know forsure? by the way, I have the hitachi drive in my Xbox360
-
I have a combo drive in my macbook, hence the external burner.
FIC, check the compatability list or just try burning via bootcamp. I'd be interested in finding out if it works.
-
I think others have already stated that it does in fact work under bootcamp. I can speak for myself, but I do not have a Matshita drive, but rather a Pioneer DVR-K06. (Mine is an iMac with the Core2 Duo).
Start reading at Post #6 of this thread. That user got his backups to burn under bootcamp with the Matshita drive.

Well I just burnt my first backup using CloneCD on windows via bootcamp on the mac mini. I used Memorex discs and just simply pointed clonecd to the .dvd file... hit the button and 45 mins later it works.
thanks everyone
-
Well I`m happy to report that thanks to Cyberdork I can now burn .iso files on my mac with the layer break in the right place, it does take 40 minutes but provided you use Verbatim or Traxdata DVD+R Dual Layer (these two have given me 100% sucess so far) you`ll be ok.
A brief summary.
Install XCode, Darwin Ports, CdrTools
Download dvd+rw-tools-7.0 tar and make these tools in the terminal, I moved them to the cdrtools folder manually.
Navigate to the .iso directory and then run this (if growisofs is elsewhere you will need to change this)
/opt/local/var/db/dports/software/cdrtools/2.01_2/opt/local/bin/growisofs -use-the-force-luke=dao -use-the-force-luke=break:1913760 -dvd-compat -speed=2 -Z /dev/rdisk2=Game.iso
rdisk is your dvd drive id, it can be 0,1, 2, 3, etc
It took me a while to work it out but you don`t need a Windows Machine and CloneCd
-
Ahh it works!!

Thanks for the Discovery!!!
-
In the earlier posted linux thread, there are also instructions on using the bitsetting tool that you have also built in that package. This should help those of you that have the matshita drives that won't auto bitset.
-
Thanks very much for the growisofs trick to burn iso on the mac, it work very good for me.
I only have a question, until now I use "X-CD-Roast X 0.98" under X11 to make an iso image from a backuped xbox360 game.
Is there a nativ osx program able to create iso image from a backuped xbox360 game ??
Have someone already tried to do a copy of backuped game with the last toast version. I have done an image from a backup with toast and when I start toast with the image created, toast show the good layer break point. I think it was not in previous version. But I didn't try to burn until now. Has someone try ???
Thak you in advance
-
I do not understand what you mean by make an iso from a backed up game. If you backed up the game, then you should already have an image file.
Discussing making a backup of a backup is not allowed in these forums if that is what you are asking...
-
Hey all,
I tried to use XBC on my macbook pro via Windows in bootcam and had some issues.
I'm trying to use my external enclose (IDE to USB2.0) to hold my SH-162C with Kreon for reading the diskcs, then the same enclosure with Pioneer 111d (1.29 firmware) to burn.
XBC created the images quickly and without error. When I try to burn it goes bizarrely slow (like 55kb/sec).
Any idea's what i'm doing wrong? Also, if I create the images with XBC can I perhaps try some other program to burn the images?
-
i personally use imgburn
-
I was doing some more reading and I think that's the next thing I'll try.
If I create the images with XBC and burn them with ImgBurn, will that work? Does anyone else do this with success?
-
yes... that is exactly what I do, I do not do it any other way.
-
@organiclemonade
Did you try Parallels at all? I have a Kreon drive connected via USB, and Xbox Backup Creator sees it as valid. The problem is, when I start the backup, Parallel ends up freezing about 10 seconds later. The DVD drive spins for a little bit, then stops.
I don't much about how Parallel or XBC allocates space, but maybe one of them is allocating the 7.5+ GB before the rip. I guess I'll leave it run overnight to see if I have any results in the morning.
-
YAY YAY YAY
Burnt my first disk today and it worked!!!
Macbook 1.83ghz 1.25gb RAM
Bootcamp with Windows XP Home
Samsung (flasshed with Keron (or whatever it is called) in an external USB2.0 case)
Lite-On SOSW-833SX Dual Layer Writer
Verbatim DVD+r Dual Layer Disks (really hard to find in stock anyehre)
XBOX Backup Creator to read and write the disks.
Flashed Samsung MS-28 Xbox360.
Works like a charm.
Any idea how to make my backup XBOX1 games work? or even all my orig XBOX 1?
-
you have to rerip your original xbox1 games to work with the xbox360. There are tutorials in the pinned backup FAQ
-
I have had success with my mac. its an intel iMac 2.0 ghz core duo.
I have had no success in OSX itself, though I dont see why a program that can read the .dvd file wouldnt work.
In Bootcamp Win XP Ive been using xbox backup creator 2.3 with traxdata and vertabrim discs. Clone cd gives me un readable discs no matter what for some reason. Using the internal iMac dvd burner I got a few working burns using the vertabrims, but traxdata would not work at all. However since getting a pioneer 111d drive and putting it in an external USB 2.0 enclosure, I have backed up a fair few games successfully on both traxdata and vertabrims, with no failed burns.
-
Hi, i was wondering how u find out ure dvd drive id in mac os x for the growisofs command. i looked in system profiler and doesnt show it. i listed all files in the /dev/ directory in terminal, got several rdisk names, from rdisk0s1-0s10, i was able to find out my 2 internal hard drives are rdisk0s10 and rdisk1s3, no clue what id my dvd drive was assigned tho, is there a specific command?
-
try this in a terminal:
CODE
diskutil list
That should list all the volumes on your machine. Might have to actually have a disc in the drive for it to show up. The last column shows the "identifier". This tells you the Disk Number and Partition Number of each volume. you need the disk number of your dvd drive.
-
thanks cyberdork!
i was able to get the device id when i had a dvd in the drive. i had another problem where growisofs said permission denied when trying to burn, i figured it was becuase i have toast to open when i insert a blank dvd, so i changed it to open finder, and it works perfectly now.
my last question is if growisofs can burn clonde cd images, the .000 file, i know the .dvd just gives the layerbreak point so i wouldnt need that, the main 7 gig image is the .000 file, or can growisofs only burn .iso files?
-
the .000 file is the disc image. it should be able to burn that.
the .dvd file only contains the layerbreak info as you stated, and growisofs will not read that in, so it is not needed. you specify the layerbreak on the commandline instead.
Your permission error was most likely because another burner program was open as you figured.
-
do i have to rename my iso to "game.iso" when i type in the command:
CODE
growisofs -use-the-force-luke=dao -use-the-force-luke=break:1913760 -dvd-compat -speed=2 -Z /dev/rdisk1=Game.iso
-
for some reason it wont let me edit my post but anyways..i downloaded xcode, darwin ports, cdrtools-2.01, and dvd+rw tools-7.0. I installed xcode and darwin ports and i made cdrtools and dvdrwtools. Now to burn my iso i used the following custom command for me:
CODE
/opt/local/var/db/dports/software/cdrtools/2.01_2/opt/local/bin/growisofs -use-the-force-luke=dao -use-the-force-luke=break:1913760 -dvd-compat -speed=2 -Z /dev/rdisk1=Game.iso
but for some reason i got an error that says no such file or directory exists. I went to my /opt/local/var/db/dports/software/cdrtools/2.01_2/opt/local/bin/ directory but i couldnt find the growisofs file in there and thats why I think i am getting the error. I tried to remake dvdrwtools and cdrtools several times but it still cant see a growisofs file in the directory path given above. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?
-
i would guess that you are not making the binaries in that directory.
Oh and for the previous post, you do not need to rename the image file, you need to change the command to have the image file's name on the end!
-
Thanks go to Cyberdork33 who helped me with this.
I finally got around to writing a tutorial about this for elsewhere so i`m posting a copy here.
On the mac there is NO commercial software that allows you to specify a layer break when burning a DVD yet so this guide is the only way at present to do this. Its not easy but if you follow this then it can be acheived and it works. follow each step and make sure the spaces are correct, you enter text in the terminal and press return on the keyboard to action your commands.
You will need to be familiar with the terminal app which is in the folder called Utilities which itself is in Applications on your boot HD to enter instructions which use the UNIX core of the operating system, this is not difficult if you know the syntax rules.
My system is 10.4.8 and my HD has 2 partitions.
1) Install Xcode Tools from your Tiger Installation DVD, inside the Xcode Tools Folder run the application Xcodetools.mpkg.
2) Download Darwin Ports for mac 10.4 from here http://darwinports.o...rwin.org/getdp/ and install on your mac. Read the whole page and run the sudo command mentioned on this page.
3) Install cdrtools after you have installed Darwin Ports by opening the terminal and typing exactly what I say next.
sudo port install cdrtools press the RETURN key on your keyboard to make this command work
4) This should d/l the app cdrtools and install it on your mac automatically, If you follow the progress in the terminal window you`ll understand, I can`t quite remember but if you are asked for a password then type in the password you normally get asked for when you install any new software on your mac and press the ENTER/RETURN key on your keyboard. This will install the set of tools in the following folder called bin on your HD.
/opt/local/var/db/dports/software/cdrtools/2.01_2/opt/local/bin/
5) The next step is to d/l the following .tar file from here.
http://fy.chalmers.s...x/DVD RW/tools/
You want dvd+rw-tools-7.0.tar.gz which is 128k and created on the 24-Sep
I download this onto my desktop and clicked on it to expand the file into a folder called dvd+rw-tools-7.0
6) Now you need to compile the Linux Tools contained inside the folder into Mac tools (thats why you installed Xcode)
Open the Terminal
Type
cd (cd is Change Directory in Unix)
Drag the folder dvd+rw-tools-7.0 into the terminal window and press return on your keyboard this should then redirect all commands to whatever is in that folder on your desktop.
Type
make then press return on your keyboard (make will then compile the Linux tools into mac tools)
Now wait and let the magic start, it will take a minute or so and hopefiully you will have a terminal log like mine below. milocoon is my computer name so yours will be different. Heres the log.

82-32-42-19:~/Desktop/dvd+rw-tools-7.0 milocoon$
7) Inside the folder dvd+rw-tools-7.0 on your desktop you will now see the following 5 new tools called Unix Executable files.
dvd-ram-control
dvd+rw-booktype
dvd+rw-format
dvd+rw-mediainfo
growisofs
8) I dragged these 5 Unix Executable Files into the same folder that contains the cdr toots above. This is located here.
/opt/local/var/db/dports/software/cdrtools/2.01_2/opt/local/bin/
In the bin folder you should now have a total of 17 tools.
9) If you`ve got this far you`ve almost cracked it as all you need to do now is create a text command in the terminal to run the program growisofs.
It needs to know where the GAME.ISO is on your computer.
It needs to know where GROWISOFS is located.
It needs to know what your DVD Burner is called.
In my case I have a Folder called DVD on my desktop containg the GAME.ISO (it might also be called GAME.000 this is not important ) which is the large file you`ve got from here. You don`t need the .DVD file at all BTW.
You know where GROWISOFS is
/opt/local/var/db/dports/software/cdrtools/2.01_2/opt/local/bin/
Take any CD/DVD out of your DVD burner now if you had one in there already.
My Computer has the Boot HD setup as 2 parttitions and the terminal name for these are rdisk0 and rdisk1
If you open the terminal and type the folling in.
ls /dev/rdisk? (ls is List) then press Return on the keyboard this is my log.

82-32-42-19:~ milocoon$ ls /dev/rdisk?
/dev/rdisk0 /dev/rdisk1 /dev/rdisk2
82-32-42-19:~ milocoon$
Notice the new addition so in my case my DVD burner is rdisk2
10) So I`ll show you the final step to burning an XBox 360 backup.
Open up the terminal
cd (drag the folder called DVD ( containg the file game.iso ) on your desktop into the terminal window) press RETURN on your keyboard.
Heres my log so far

Welcome to Darwin!
82-32-42-19:~ milocoon$ cd /Users/milocoon/Desktop/dvd/
82-32-42-19:~/Desktop/dvd milocoon$
Now you need to navigate to the growisofs prgram, I typed this once and saved it as a text file but if your location is the same as me then this is all you need, HOWEVER you may need to change 2 things
rdisk2 is correct for my computer, read about the DVD burner again. Change this for your own computer
GAME.ISO (the large file may be called something else so replace game.iso with GearsofWar.000 or whatever the file is called or rename the file to game.iso)
Enter this into the terminal after taking into account the above two name changes (there is a space before the first slash )
/opt/local/var/db/dports/software/cdrtools/2.01_2/opt/local/bin/growisofs -use-the-force-luke=dao -use-the-force-luke=break:1913760 -dvd-compat -speed=2 -Z /dev/rdisk2=game.iso
Put a Blank Dual Layer Traxdata or Verbatim DVD+R in your drive, when the finder asks you about the blank dvd choose IGNORE
Now go back to the terminal and press RETURN and you are now burning. Heres my log, allow about an hour and don`t close the terminal window until the hour is up and its all finished.
Enjoy I have kept the Original burnt this way and used Toast to copy this and use this as my playing copy.

I`m having problems with some Newly created IMAGE.000 files which have come from CloneCD on the PC.
Game.iso appear to be fine, I`m sure that older IMAGE.000 were OK but recently my terminal log has reported Layer Break at 1848848 Blocks and if you double click IMAGE.000 it won`t mount on the Desktop, rename it as an .img or .iso and its an unrecognised disk format.
Could a new version of CloneCD be causing us mac users problems ?

So trying to burn on osx macbook have the superdrive with dual layer burning yet I get this error.

Actually have the Untitled DVD showing up in finder which is strange. I have using verbatim dvd+r DL any ideas?
-
Verbatim is probally the best media available, try opening Toast and get info on the blank DVD you put in.
Did the Finder tell you it was blank media when you loaded it ?
Never had that particular problem (YET)
What make is the DVD burner ?
-
Toast disc info

Disk Utility info

Only thing I can think of is the disc is messed up from when I was messing with it in windows though it seems to be blank. Going to try a different disc when I get home from work.
-
So its doing the same thing with another disc so I wonder what went wrong. I'll try to reinstall everything then try again and will let you guys know.
-
did u put the right drive into de code at the end :
/dev/rdisk1=game.iso
isnt it /dev/rdisk2=game.iso
is rdisk1 the right path? ..didnt have an other idea
-
To check for the correct name for your DVD burner.
Take out any CD/DVD in your burner
Open the terminal enter ls /dev/rdisk? press RETURN
Put a CD/DVD in your burner
Open the terminal enter ls /dev/rdisk? press RETURN
The new rdisk name is the one you need to use.
-
I'm sure I am using the correct rdisk. Its a strange problem indeed.

Do you just have one HD with one partion ?
Put a DVD in your DVD Burner
Open the terminal and do the ls /dev/rdisk? command again, you don`t need to change directories, is it on the same ATA cable as your main HD, if it is it must be rdisk1 ?
-
Well to let you guys know even though I have the superdrive in my macbook it does not support burning dual layer dvd's
so that is why it was giving me this message. I've ordered a external dual layer burner to resolve my issue. Thanks for all the help. I though for sure my burner was dual layer hehe.

Anyone got a clue to why it doesn't work (to be sure it's not the imagefile which is faulty, I've written the same iso (of course in conjuction with the .dvd file) on the XP Laptop with CloneCD and it worked like a charm..)

First and foremost, you guys ROCK.
I have a macbook pro, 2.33GHz c2d with a crappy matshita drive.
This burning method worked PERFECTLY; The burn was even auto-bitset to DVD-Rom (I guess the drive does at least something OK...).
So, anyways, I built an installer for you guys to save a bunch of steps... Just download, double click, and run growisofs!
Enjoy!

It's possible your drive isn't bitsetting the burn to DVD-Rom and that your 360's formware doesn't ignore the bitsetting....
You can try to use dvd+rw-booktype, but I haven't found out a way to make it work in OS X yet (mainly because you only get a logical device in OS X from a removable drive with media present... and you need the drive empty to do a bitsetting change). You can likely permanently change it in windows and not have to worry about it though...
In addition to my internal burner, I have an NEC 3540A in an external firewire/usb2 case... Just used it with growisofs to burn at 8x
The one nice thing about the NEC.. is that there are OS X flashing utilities for it (binflash
), which also lets you do bitsetting changes and see the drives current stats:

It's possible your drive isn't bitsetting the burn to DVD-Rom and that your 360's formware doesn't ignore the bitsetting....
That's very odd, since this type of drive (Pioneer 111D) does auto-bitsetting (it's not even possible to manually do bitsetting (not even in Windows). That's one of the reasons why this drive is widely recommended for xbox360 backups... you can't screw up (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Thanks for your tutorial. I created something similar (at least, the latter part (commandline). Copied most of the commandline in a script (burn.sh) which takes a parameter (the iso). I drag the burn.sh to the terminal, then drag the iso file to it and press enter. I'll try and fabricate a graphical frontend in cocoa when I feel really brave (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

i have the same problems with some backups like u mention above .
burnproceed ended with no errors .when i put into xbox360 get also an disc error..
like i know now the good made backups will show in finder as an xbox360 dvd ,the other ones which dont run on xbo360 the finder will ask what to do with disk ,finder thinks its empty ?!?!
only time disc showed up as an xbox60 dvd ,but when the xbox360 started to read showed me the first screen but then says dirty disc is with the backup of splinter cell double..can get it to run
greetz

Dunno :/ All the discs I've burned with my internal matshita drive @ 2.4x and my external NEC 3540A drive work fine.. They also mount in OS X as an Xbox 360 disc (and play the "Put this game in an xbox 360 console" video.
idog: feel free to share your shell script
I was going to make one myself, but I'm still trying to figure out how we can automaticaly detect which device(s) are dual layer dvd drives.

I`ve discovered the solution to burning IMAGE.000 or Game.iso that won`t work using the previous method.
There are 2 types of Images.
WXRIPPER created these will burn fine and these will mount on your desktop!
EXTREME style these put the layer Break in the wrong place and they won`t mount on your desktop!
Open the Terminal
Navigate to where your IMAGE.000 is
Type file IMAGE.000
If the result is data then thats an EXTREME style.
Read Below for the FIX.
HOW TO PATCH AN EXTREME style IMAGE.000 in Mac OSX
First thing is to download imgbpatch and unrar it from this URL http://www.bewhere.co.uk/imgbpatch_java.rar
Mine is on my desktop.
My IMAGE.000 is in a folder on my desktop called Rainbow6 and I`ve put the program imgbpatch.jar from above in the same folder.
Open the Terminal
Welcome to Darwin!
82-32-42-19:~ milocoon$ cd /Users/milocoon/Desktop/Rainbow6/
To check if its an EXTREME or WXRIPPER file
82-32-42-19:~/Desktop/Rainbow6 milocoon$ file IMAGE.000
IMAGE.000: data
This means its an EXTREME .data file
82-32-42-19:~/Desktop/Rainbow6 milocoon$ java -jar imgbpatch.jar IMAGE.000
XBOX360 ISO Patcher for IMGBurn v1.0 by JSR/iND
Usage : java -jar imgbpatch.jar <filename>
Finished!
To check the patching worked.
82-32-42-19:~/Desktop/Rainbow6 milocoon$ file IMAGE.000
IMAGE.000: ISO 9660 CD-ROM filesystem data 'XBOX360 '
82-32-42-19:~/Desktop/Rainbow6 milocoon$
Notice the new name for this file now.
Its a successful patch, now lets burn it.

Whoops.. I knew I missed something in the linux thread

Updating my tutorial with this info to hopefully save people coasters.

New version of the installer with imgbpatch.java:
http://www.otbmods.c...isofsOSX1.1.zip
Usage for imgbpatch: java -jar /usr/bin/imgbpatch.jar <filename>
-
whoa thats so cool ,will buy new dvds on monday so many backups to patch

thank u very much
-
I registered just to say THANK YOU to everyone in this thread, especially to MILOCOON and APPLEGURU. Now I can finally burn the images. I've burnt 11 so far with 3 coasters (because I didnt know about the imgbpatch). Then I decided to come back to thread and ask if the same was happening to anyone else (coasters) and it seems someone beat me too it, and milocoon already found the fix. Again, Thank You!

idog: feel free to share your shell script

I was going to make one myself, but I'm still trying to figure out how we can automaticaly detect which device(s) are dual layer dvd drives.
i'm seeing if i can make some kind of gui for it, including a dropdown of recorders and a box where you can drag the iso in (patching will be done automatically).. results will be posted in this thread

Just to clarify, if your Matshita burner doesn't support bitsetting (I don't think any of them do) and you have a Hitachi drive (no firmware for it that ignores bitsetting), the discs will still burn and work fine?
-
Not tested that myself, but as soon as my app needs a testburn I'll risk a DL in my internal Matshiwhatever...
-
Just registered to say Thank You Very Much for this work !
-
Not sure about the matsushita burner either,
But from the X360 end, if you are Hitachi without booktype set to DVD-ROM it usually does not work.
It will work on a Samsung if your firmware is v3.1 and after.

Update

All the parts needed have been created, even the part for the determination of the correct rdisk (used the Device File Access Guide for Storage Devices (courtesy of Apple
as a basis...)
Expect a working GUI frontend in a day or so. If milicoon or appleguru would like to test (or help otherwise (incorporating the existing zip in one nice installer
), please let me know..
Console output of a trial run of my program :

iBurn360 has exited with status 0.
A few remarks :
- the iPod rdisk stuff will be filtered out (it will currently list all ejectable media)
- future improvement will be that the mediatype (DL, mediacode ?) will also be shown
Things that can be set/done in the gui
- the actual image file (drag and drop from Finder)
- recording speed (default is 2)
- recorders (dropdownbox for selecting, refreshbutton to refresh contents of dropdownbox)
- automatic detection of needed patching (popup dialog to ask permission to patch)
- layer break (default is 1913760).. should never change, but hey.. better safe than sorry
- burn (duh, checking of valid image file and recorder is done prior to burning)
Progress is shown in a progress bar and the output from growisofs is shown in a scrollable textbox.

hope i can test it soon

Anyways, i'll test the terminal way of burning today... i flashed my drive yesterday

Am rewriting it now using the DiscRecording framework. Much cleaner code (no C calls necessary) and more control over the drives and media (automatic detection of duallayer media, speeds, eject etc).
Appleguru will package my part as soon as I have got something decent. I'll post a link here for people who are interested in testing the gui once I have a version that works

Ok, version 0.1 is done. I've writtten a manual as well. The entire stuff weighs in at about 740 kbytes and I just burned a backup of Eragon without problems (just read the manual).
appleguru will package everything together, but for those of you who want to test the .app .. just give me a shout

hosting is solved, ScorpioN^ has taken care of this (THANKS !). You can get the application and the manual at
http://scorpion.datr...60/iBurn360.zip
Be aware that this is only a version 0.1, so read the manual carefully.
Furthermore, you need the installer from appleguru to install growisofs and the mkbpatch jar.

Will test this out at the weekend hopefully.
And if you need more hosting, just give me a shout

Hi Guys I like the GUI its much easier than my cut and pasting.
This works on all macs and not just Intel macs, some people might read that and think incorrectly that they need an Intel mac to do this, my G4 Quicksilver with Pioneer 110D handles all this fine.
Nice bit of teamwork by all concerned, and we all benefit !

Looks very nice. I haven't openen to stuffit archive yet (haven't got stuffit on my iMac), but I viewed the icns and it's all in the name
I'll update the application soon to include the icon. Bugs can also be submitted by posting them here or PM me about it.
Next step will be decompiling the jar file and seeing if I can code the same thing with Cocoa, thereby eliminating the need for a separate jar file and java call.
I'll also will play around a bit with the DiscRecordingUI framework, maybe there is some way to use it to write the image and set the layerbreak correctly without the need for growisofs... but hey.. maybe I'm dreaming right now.
Tonight I have to catch up with my Smallville addiction first

Well goodluck with that... If it is available in the framework I don't understand why nobody has implemented it in ANY burning app yet. I did make a suggestion to the Discoapp guys to add the feature, but who knows if they will even care.

Works like a charm
Just made a backup of COD3 on my internal iMac drive (MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846) on a Verbatim DL disc at 2.4speed.
Strange thing is that the same media reports speeds of 2.4, 4, 6 and 8 when I use it in my PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-111D, but only reports 2.4 in the Matshita.
Anyway, I always burn at 2.4 speed so no biggie for me
Tested the backup in my Hitachi drive and works perfectly

It doesn't hurt to take a peek. If the Discoapp guys really wanted to add the feature they could have tried harder
After all, it just took a bit of teamwork here at X-S to come up with iBurn360

Hey thanks, appreciate it. BTW, what firmware are you running on your Hitachi?
Weird that this apparently enables booktype even though the burner doesn't support it.

Maybe because the Matshita only supports 2.4x burning, so it won't report any speed higher than that?

I assume you're trying appleguru's terminal method ?
Can you post the contents of your terminal output so we can see what the exact error and commands are ?
I thought appleguru's installer installed into /usr/bin, have you tried Finder, Go and type in that path and look around there ?

I honestly don't know. I had it flashed by someone else a long time ago (september 2006..) and it still works like a charm.
Only now am I looking into how I can flash the drive myself (mainly to help some friends out). Is there an easy way to see wat fw is on it ? Or do I have to connect it to a pc like when I want to flash it ?

Has anyone tried Toast 8 yet since it just came out?
-
Toast. No, I posted a question on their forum and opened a ticket requesting about the layerbreak feature (is it included yes or no..).
No response yet.
But hey, I'm perfectly happy with the combination growisofs OS X installer + iBurn360.
Stay tuned for a bundled install, so you don't have to do any "complicated" stuff anymore (not even change preferences
).

It seems it does. Used the growisofs installer of appleguru on my mac mini ppc and then configured iburn (growisofs and the jar file both reside in /usr/bin) and it started up alright, showed my superdrive as well.
Of course.. it's not a duallayer drive, so I would have to hook up my external burner. I'll test it tonight, would be cool if it worked (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) but I don't see any reason why it shouldn't ;-)

I helped kesperse out on msn for this issue.
The installer from appleguru puts the growisofs and the jar file both in /usr/bin.
The paths to use in iBurn360 preferences are :
growisofs path : /usr/bin/growisofs
imgbpatch path : /usr/bin/imgbpatch.jar
spotlight doesn't look in /usr/bin, that's why a search won't find these files.
as for the nme patch, I'll have to look into this, but it's beyond the scope of iBurn360 in this phase of development..

I just wanted to thank you guys for all of this hard work on the Mac side! And I just have a couple quick "newbie" questions. I modded my own xbox1 a few years ago- but am totally new to the 360 scene.
1) Do you need a "modded" 360 to run your backed up iso's? And if so- what chip do you recommend?
2) Could you point me to a good "mac-centric" discussion on how to create 360 iso's on a PPC?
Thanks again!

choose preferenes
there make an cross where outpout folder stands and where stands .000 for concat (merge).
No more than select all ur files which has to get together and throw it into ur icon in the dock(.000 - .007 not the .dvd file ).
wait some minutes(press apple +i on the file to see when its finished, prog tells u after seconds done but progress still goes on) and u get and image file which is 7.05 gb try with imgpatch if its data or not ....
i think thats all
now going to buy dvd to try it out if it works let u guys know (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I've got it !!
For PPC, it's too easy. Just go into the dvd+rw tools dir, delete the .o files.
Type : make <enter>
It builds and works
Universal binary version of iBurn360 will have this incorporated. So ppc works !

Better way to do this is to do a make clean prior to your make (which you should always do anyways when you've previously built something
)
This will just make ppc binaries though... we want universal ones
Ok, got it... to build universal binaries... just tag on -arch ppc -arch i386 to the makefile's compiler flags for darwin... so:
CODE
CFLAGS += $(WARN) -D__unix -O2 -arch ppc -arch i386
CXX =g++
CXXFLAGS+=$(WARN) -D__unix -O2 -fno-exceptions -arch ppc -arch i386
;-)
So.. now we just need to figure out how to make darwin ports create universal binaries of cdrtools... and then we'll be good to roll for a fully universal all in one solution.
-
Ugh... ok, I FINALLY got it; universal binaries of everything but cdda2wav... which we don't need anyways

Ok, I'm going to post a zip file (mainly for idog so he can incorporate the binaries into the iburn360 app package) with the UBs in it.
Let me be the first to say cdrtools was a ROYAL pain in the arse to get compiled properly as a UB.
I 'basically' just needed to add some compiler flags to the power-macintosh-darwin-cc.rul file in the RULES folder of cdrtools and copy it to i386-darwin-cc.rul... changes in bold:

For idog: here are the compiled universal binaries: http://idog.appleguru.org/cdrecord_universal_binaries.zip
You probablly only need growisofs and mkisofs BTW
(and imgbpatch.java of course)

Hey appleguru, there are several PPC ready versions of Linux out there. I am sure you could get the binaries off such a distro to use in this package, or at least get some input on how to properly compile... not that it matters now since you've already gone through all the trouble.

Folks, great Job. Ive been trolling for a while and was able to burn (ppc) using the orginal ports/make/growisofs from the terminal but am mighty excited to see a cleaned up installer (my desktop and the needed tools are currently scattered all over my user directory).
If any of you choose to put together a tip jar I'd surely kick in a bit for the effort. So please dont hesitate to do so.
It seems like there's a lack on info on dumps/SSextracts/and patching for us Darwin types so I thought as a newbie (never had an xbox1) I'd venture to ask about it. Seems to me ppl are either getting their backups through a PC or the solution is so simple I just missed it.
Obviously I dont want to have to hook my 360 up to the computer. Ive got a USB S184 by Samsung that burns like a rocket (no coasters yet) and I'm actually trying to code a firmware for it based on the Kreon for the other units but I thought now would be a good time to blatantly ask about this sort of thing before I go any further.
A little background on the problem (Mac/Windows the same). Obviously the onboard trick directory employed by MS leaves us with few options other than
1. hotswap
2. using custom firmware
3. using the 360 drive itself
...because any market ready drive is designed to read/report the standard content directory on its initial, onboard BIOS directed spin-up. Kreon firmware tells the drive to read from a different location AND gives the controller the ability to open the drive without inducing another spin-up.
Any ideas for an all-in-one solution would be apreciated. The goal would be to be able to make a ready-to-burn backup from ANY drive using one program. No BIOS flashing needed. I know this seems idealistic but starting with a clear goal seems the best way to design this tool. If anyone would like to get onboard with me or share where theyre at so far I'mall ears.

As of now you still need to rip your originals in windows (Less of a problem for those like me with intel macs and bootcamp, but still hardly ideal) :/
Hopefully we'll have a ripping solution on the mac soon

Has anyone messed with the dd command? Someone that knows more about the 360 image structure than me. I know that it can pretty much make raw, bit for bit dumps of data off a drive, but I don't know if it is effected by the partitions on the disc or not.

I wanted to clarify this response since it did not quote the whole post. Toast will most likely still not work as you would have to set the layerbreak properly still for an xbox 1 image. growisofs on the other hand should be able to burn a properly created image (with the layerbreak set at teh correct location).

I'm not all that familiar with it myself, but first we'd need to unlock the game partition before we go dumping anything...

growiso and iBurn360 worked great, thanks for everyone's work. And Split & Concat works great at joining the image files as long as you rename them to image.x.000, etc, so the program can piece them together.
Tested with Verbatim discs burned with the Matshita drive in my MacBook Pro with a Hitachi drive in the 360 and worked great.
-
I personally use MacPAR deLuxe for joining split files I dont really like Split & Concat it has occasionally left me with non recognized files.
Im hopefully gonna get a x360usb soon as I dont have access to a pc to flash my drive, but I could get the use of my bosses windoze laptop to use the x360usb with. iBurn360 hopefully would have grown some more when I eventually do my drive

I have used it a couple times before, and I don't think it is required to have the partition mounted to use. It literally can dump a /dev/* to another /dev/* or to a file. I may be way off base here, assuming that the game partition may look unreadable at the hardware level...
-
We don't need the game partition mounted.. we need it unlocked... Unless we want to do a wxripper disc swap style rip.

Yes, still alive. Sorry for the lack of updates, but busy irl and stuff

Anyway, a new version of iBurn360 is currently tested by myself.
New in this version (0.20) :
- no separate installer necessary (so no more appleguru's growiso installer required), everything is INSIDE the application. Just download the app and run it.
- Works out of the box, no preferences needed.
- universal binary (thanks to appleguru for the hard work on making growisofs universal)
- icon (woowie
) (thanks to mrmr)
Still to do :
- support split files (IMAGE.001, .002 etc)
- file dialog/drop location instead of textboxdrop being used now
- return control to application during burn (prevent rotating pizza
)
- show mediacode of inserted duallayer disc
Any other features can be requested (yes, I know, creating an image from an original xbox360 with your mac would be great ... let's see how far appleguru et al will get here
)

Yes it can. I heard of couple people that had the dvd drive broken somehow that it doesn't read properly.
Anyways, if the dvd is readable you should be prompted to open it with toast, finder or ignore.
If that doesn't come up, then your drive is broken. But if it recognizes the dvdr and lets you ignore anything, then you're good to go.
I'd check that all the preferences are correctly written, and try again. My MacBook Pro works ok.
Haven't burned any coasters yet. I have C2D version with the newest Matshita UJ-857

Ok,
Haven't had time for the icon yet (sorry mrmr, will add it very soon).. but Universal iBurn360 can be downloaded here (courtesy of appleguru for the hosting

iBurn 0.19
I've tested it on my iMac Intel and on my Mac Mini 1.42 PPC and it works like a charm.
Like said, no need for growisofs installer or any preferences anymore (I do assume you run on 10.4.*). Just open the zip and drag iBurn360 to your Applications.

hello....i have some game with image.000 plus image.dvd.....and some game with image.iso plus image.dvd.....both works????
-
they should both work, and you don't need the .dvd file to use this. Maybe the iBurn360 app canget the added feature to use the .dvd file to set the layerbreak and use the correct image? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Shouldn't be too hard to do, it is just a text file.

hi,
forget the .dvd files, they're useless for us.
rename image.000 to image.iso. that's all
-
Actually you dont have to rename .000, iburn recognizes it and burns it like a charm
perfect burns everytime
-
Slightly off topic but relevant to XBOX360 Backups, I`ve been using some NEW media called Aone DL DVD+R from Ebuyer.com and it is brilliant and dirt cheap. Not one coaster yet from the first 10 burnt, its rated at 8X but I always burn at 2.4X to be certain its okay !
Recommended !

idog, you may want to add the binary for at least mkisofs, as last I checked growisofs required it for use.

that's very strange, since I tried the iBurn360 0.19 as it on a freshly installed mac mini 1.42 and it burned a backup without problems (tested it in my 360 afterwards..). I can add mkisofs but it's certainly not needed for iBurn360....
-
I could be wrong on the dependency, but that's what I got out of the growisofs documentation last time I read it.. but hey, if we don't need it, we don't need it
-
growisofs is a front-end to mkisofs, so it is required, but it may already be a part of OSX? or maybe redirects commands to the proper utility? I would include it just to make sure that all users have it.
-
Just for info, I just used iDog's iBurn360 v0.19 and created a game disc from a 7.5GB *.000 file using MEMOREX DVD+R DL.
Disc was created on a MACBOOK PRO C2D 2.33GHz 2.0GB RAM and burned at 2.4X using the HL-DT-ST DVDRW GWA4080MA DL Drive.
Thanks for the program, would love to see the updates when they drop for version 0.20!

so basically all i need to do , is take my .000 file or .iso drag and drop it on the iBurn360 window where it goes, select my external burner and recording speed and hit burn ? how do i know if it is patched to work or anything like that ?
-
all the program does is BURN... you have to have a full backup beforehand (including the SS.bin, etc)

Yes. Dragging the .ISO or .000 and dropping it is enough. The program assumes that the image you use is created using the xtreme or wxripper method. If it needs patching, iBurn will notify you and ask your permission.

I was thinking about using Parallels until I found this thread via Google, but this app has made things ALOT easier! Thanks to everyone who helped make it.
info: I'm using a Mac Book Pro (but it only has a single layer driver, so...) an external LaCie D2 writer connected via FireWire and Verbatim discs. Burning at 2.4x.

Hi everybody, I would like first of all to thank you all for this great work.
Although I'm very new to the whole xbox-mac burning thing, I think it's been given possible to burn on a single layer DVD, for the games which are not more than 4.7 Gb, with the latest fws of the xbox drivers.
Is the support of this feature is in the pipeline? Because the dvds are still a lot cheaper than the DL.
Talking of this, does anyone know what is the best place to buy in bundle VERBATIM DL?
Thanks a lot for everything again!

Given that you currently can't create backups on the mac, you meant.. exactly what you said. "Downloading" games is piracy and is not tolerated here. Multiple accounts is also grounds for a ban. So... Bye!

as far as i know yes they are currently working on being able to burn 360 games that are 4.38 gigs or less on a single layer dvd, the xtreme 5.2 fw supports this, but the image structure has to be figured out or something or other, but as of right now, thats not possible, dual layers are your only option.

OFF TOPIC HERE but....
Regarding streaming wmv's from macosx to 360 using connect360.
Until recently Ive not been able to re encode my avi's to wmv on macosx at a speed and quality good enough to make on the fly encoding a possibility.
But since upgrading to the latest version of VisualHub it is pretty fast at encding and the quality is good, it definitely encodes quicker than it takes to watch a movie. I have a G5 1.6ghz.
Im hoping someone will figure out how to use connect360 and visualhub together and watch my avi movies on the 360.
Ive tried encoding a movie to wmv but the xbox360 doesnt see the partial file untill the encoding has finished.
Cheers

I would check what system profiler says first. If it is working in Toast, I find it odd that it would not work otherwise. Click the Apple Icon in the top Left, then select "About This Mac..." then click the "More Info..." button. This will open System Profiler. On the left of the window, you can click "Disc Burning" and it will give you all the burning info. (You might also be able to flash the firmware or something to get it to burn other media... I would do some research on the subject.)

Hi guys, I´m having some trouble getting everything to work out. I´m using the internal MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857D with verbatim +R DL and of course iburn. Everything works up to the burning stage where the process starts with the line "executing", then nothing. The strange thing is that it burns into the disc but never shows any process on the gui. I sat it out hoping for the best, but in the end I had a fully burned disc that´s not working.
Noticed that after the extraction I have a file that have .360 instead of .iso or .000 might renaming it do the trick?

I got this to work once but now it is acting strangely.
It works for a few seconds then says recording finished,
I click burn and get this.

I have read some conflicting information that the UJ-857 does not support Dual-Layer.
Under "DVD-Write", it should list "+R DL". You can check yours in System Profiler Under "Disc Burning"
Also, that the drive has issues:

Ok, here's something for the iBurn 360 programmers......
I got my 360 modded with a NME mod chip.. So for every image that I acquire, I have to patch it with Step 2 from their website.
So when I tried to use iBurn, it told me that I needed to patch it (I guess to make it a Xtreme image).. So when I hit cancel, it doesn't do anything (obviously).
But maybe you can add the option or an option to burn it as-is.
Oh, by the way, I'm on an iMac 20" CD2 using my internal MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846 drive using the Terminal method. But I would like to give iBurn a try..... Thank you for your consideration.

Great work for this excellent software (iBurn)
Any news on the image.001, image.002 merging for iBurn? i know it works with Split & Concat, but i was wondering.
Oh and i love this forum. PROPS

And now Iburn360 doesnt work!! it just says Recording sucessful after awhile! no status bar or text!

It's time I'd dive in with some changes for iBurn again. Had some stuff to deal with IRL, but I hope to continue developing and bettering iBurn360 in the coming weeks/months.
10.4.9 problem is being investigated. It comes down to growisofs giving an error (and since that is under the hood of iBurn360...).. any tips however (a strace has been requested..(IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) )

Strange indeed. Never seen a .360 file. Renaming it to another extension does not help. And did you see a messagebox stating the file should be patched ? If so, and it still didn't work, then your image file might by be faulty.
If you got a messagebox and patched the file. Then click cancel (stop burn) and click burn again. If it asks you again to patch the file, it still isn't recognized as a xbox360 image. Alternatively, you can run the command
file blabla.360 to see the filetype.
The output of growisofs should appear in the textbox. Can you try and perform the terminal method (see original post by appleguru for howto) and see if an error pops up ?

I understand that iburn360 can burn the images on a mac, but can anybody tell me how i create the image from the xbox 360 game disk in the first place.
I have samsung patched drive attached via usb, i have used xbox backup creator on windows but have since had to delete my boot camp partition as i needed the hdd space.
any help appreciated

Using windows is the only way atm...
idog,
maybe growisofs needs source updated? I am not sure of all the changes in 10.4.9, but it sounds like something was updated that growisofs doesn't like. maybe just a recompile under 10.4.9? IDK I will have to mess with it some when I get back to my computer.

I don't know if this will even work yet. and if it does, appleguru/idog will still have to integrate it into iBurn360 and make a universal binary.

Gotta add my gratitude - I burnt my first disk last night using iBurn and it worked!!!!! I was unsure what to expect because I have an internal Pioneer K05 in my 20" PPC iMac and I couldn't find anything posted anywhere from people who had used this drive, everyone seems to be using external 111's or 112's!
I've just read that people are having problems with 10.4.9, now apologies if I've mis-read something here and it has already been stated but this only seems to be a problem for Intel macs. As mentioned above I have a PPC mac running 10.4.9 and all the latest software updates and iBurn works a treat.
Anyways, thanks once again for such a sweet app!!!

Yea I realized that it was PPC. That's why I wanted to ask.
Burn via commandline today with no issues. The only change I have to make in the burning command was placing ./ in front:
CODE
./growisofs -use-the-force-luke=dao -use-the-force-luke=break:1913760 -dvd-compat -speed=2 -Z /dev/rdisk1=Image.000
I used the cdrtools package from Darwin ports and compiled dvd+rw-tools myself.
I will try with iBurn360 and see if I get any errors.
PS Sorry it took me so long getting this done. I had some issues with my Home network stemming from Comcast being stupid that I had to take care of...

Alright, I'll throw together a new compile and do an md5, see if the builds are any different. I haven't actually verified this 10.4.9 intel 'bug' yet, so it might be a non-issue...

Just did recompiles of everything... MD5s on everything but growisofs matched what they were before... growisofs is all over the map.. not sure what's changing.
In any case, here's what I get for growisofs:
From the iBurn360 app: 9a91f487c64d47f73d639450f189e12e
From a fresh compile: e47dac007eebda134466a7cce0d954cc
From the previous compile: a8d320cf5277c3774cfb6a70378af93b

That a ppc compile? Intel compile? Or universal from the iBurn app?
Also, apparently the error that occurs happens at the layer break... so don't be so sure yet (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

yes, this was not the alpha version that you just posted. I am pretty sure that the "bug" is non existent. I can test the newer build too if you want.

No need; I'm sure it's the same.

No, iBurn should work with any dual layer drive that your mac recognizes... Your 111D will be fine (And the default setting for layer break is what it needs to be for xbox 360 games).

i tried burning a backup of one of my games on a powermac g5 dual 2.7ghz, with my internal pioneer dvr-109 drive, the burn finished sucessfully, but upon testing it in my xbox 360, it showed up as "PLAY MOVIE"
any ideas?

Make sure you have the latest hacked firmware flashed to your 360's DVD drive... It is set to ignore bitsetting.
You can potentially reflash the burner in your g5 with a hacked firmware that bitsets DVD+R DL to DVD-Rom using dvr flash...

thanks for the quick response appleguru, it's been awhile, but i don't remember what version my xbox360 fw is that i am using, i believe its xtreme 4.1a or so? So if thats the case, do i still need to update my xbox's fw or should i reflash my pioneer dvr-109 burner?
if the answer to my question is the latter, where can i find the firmware that will bitset DVD+R DL to DVD-ROM on my pioneer dvr-109. I really don't want to end up bricking my burner in my g5...

Either solution will likely work fine, though it's probablly best just to reflash your burner...
First, I need to know what firmware your burner has on it at the moment.. You can check in apple system profiler.

Looks like you'll want to use the 2.1 GUI of DVRFlashX and the 109_858 rcp1 firmware to flash your burner... Info on autobitsetting with the 109 is sketchy at best though, so I may be wrong :/

Yup, will do that. have fired up the old xcode tonight.
Already added the extra option (at patch : Continue without patching).
And.. split files are finally supported. So .000-.007 will be converted to one big file, works great (tested it myself), you do need approx. 7gb free though. Detection of split files is automatic by the way.
Using cat, btw. If someone has a nicer solution (I was hoping for something like an append instead of a copy of all the parts into one big new image, but cat seems to be the only solution I found so far).
edit : check for drives at bootup is included now.

You could make it recursively do something like this (Psuedo code):
CODE
int num = 2, fileExist = 1;
while (fileExist != 0)
{
cat file[num] >> file1;
rm file[num];
filenum++;
if (File.filenum does not exist) {fileExist = 0;}
else num++;
}
That would only ever use an extra amount of space equal to one file part... and would leave the user with one big file in the end. If you do go that route, make sure to pop up a dialog asking the user if its ok to combine their files. I actually like your way better though; uses a lot of space yes... but it does leave the user's original files in tact. Just make sure you delete the image after you make it that way
Also, add the icon for this release

QUOTE(appleguru @ Mar 30 2007, 03:45 AM)

You could make it recursively do something like this (Psuedo code):
CODE
int num = 2, fileExist = 1;
while (fileExist != 0)
{
cat file[num] >> file1;
rm file[num];
filenum++;
if (File.filenum does not exist) {fileExist = 0;}
else num++;
}
That would only ever use an extra amount of space equal to one file part... and would leave the user with one big file in the end. style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Yup, figured that one out tonight when I couldn't sleep. GMTA (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
I'll leave both options open for the user. ('Keep original files' yes/no).
The icon stuff is indeed planned for 0.20.

I have to say thank you for this wonderful app, I recently fully switched to osx, flashed my 360 recently and it's great to know we have a decent communinty out there

Grmbl. Sorry for the delay in the version 0.20 you guys, it's coming but my iMac died on my a couple of weeks back... So ... I decided to go wild and order myself a shiny MBP.. which arrived yesterday.

So, of course I decided to test my own little iBurn with 10.4.9, just to see if everything still worked.
And.. it does.. kinda.. Let me tell you what happened.
I hooked up my trusty external USB2 Pioneer 112D, and tried to burn a backup of a 360 game. Bam.. 'Recording finished'.. way too fast.. So I tried it with the old commandline tool :
computer-van-idog:~ idog$ /Applications/iBurn360.app/Contents/Resources/growisofs -use-the-force-luke=dao -use-the-force-luke=break:1913760 -dvd-compat -speed=2 -Z /dev/rdisk2=/Volumes/IomegaHDD/mybackups/GOW.iso
Executing 'builtin_dd if=/Volumes/IomegaHDD/mybackups/GOW.iso of=/dev/rdisk2 obs=32k seek=0'
/dev/rdisk2: splitting layers at 1913760 blocks
:-[ SEND DVD+R DOUBLE LAYER RECORDING INFORMATION failed with SK=6h/ASC=29h/ACQ=00h]: Unknown error: 0
What the hell ?
Next test, try the internal burner in my MBP. And presto, worked like a charm. Next test with iBurn360 and my internal burner, also no problem.
But my external burner seems useless. So I took it to a friend of mine with a working iMac and tested it there.. no probs whatsoever, burned a backup perfectly.
So.. what gives ? Has the MBP having trouble with the USB speed or something (I use an external HDD for writing images.. hmm.. that's an idea.. I'll try hooking up an external firewire HDD .. see if that works.. in the meantime . any suggestions are welcome
)
-
Ok,
tried a few other things. Copied the backup iso to my internal harddrive and tried, no joy. Then tried it with a firewire external HD, no joy. Plugged the external usb dvddrive onto the usb2 external HD, no joy.
Tried it again on my friend's iMac. Not a single problem.
I'm now officially flabbergasted
Help... please... anyone ?
For clarity : it has nothing to do with the growisofs version I am using, since it CAN burn on my MBP, but only with the internal burner..
-
firmware update on the external burner?

So, just to clarify, your USB burner works fine on your freinds imac, but not on your MBP.. with the same media?
Have you tried switching USB ports? And.. is the iMac PPC or intel?

Yes, same media. In fact, the exact same disc. My friend's iMac is an Intel CoreDuo (first type of the Intels).
Tried every USB port on the MBP (there are three, right ? ), same result.
And about upgrading the firmware.. why ? I mean, it's obviously not needed when connected to my friend's iMac ? I tried two burners which I put in the external case now. A pioneer 111D with fw 1.23 and an pioneer 112D with fw 1.09. Both work great on my friend's machine, but give an error on my MBP.
Ah, also, sometimes I get an input/output error instead of Unknown error : 0. I find it hard to believe that something is wrong with the USB-ports on the MBP since burning an image from an external USB HD with the internal burner works like a charm. That, to me, means the USB-ports are okay.

Well, I haven't the slightest :/ If you can get your hands on another USB enclosure for your drive, I'd be interested in the results... Could just be an incompatibility with the usb chipset in the MBP and the one in your drive. Few more things you might try... Does single layer media burn? Can you burn to D/L media on that drive in, say toast?
-
It keeps saying Recording finished after a few seconds. However nothing is being written to the disk.
Can anyone offer advice?

Update. Just spoke with Per on msn (the one with the problem with OSX 10.4.9) and learned the following :
1. His problem was not fully described in his posts. He has no internal duallayer on his MBP, so he bought an external LiteOn burner.
2. This liteon burner worked perfectly in 10.4.7 on his MBP.
3. When he upgraded to 10.4.9, it failed to work (same growisofs error as I have).
I always assumed he was talking about his internal burner, and you guys probably also thought this. But it turns out, this error is not a 'fluke' as appleguru stated a few posts back.
So, I dare anyone, with an EXTERNAL burner AND OSX 10.4.9 to try and run growisofs. If it works, please state the type of external burner, your machine and the type of media you are using.
If it doesn't work, there is something fundamentally different in 10.4.9 <> older version which prohibits external burner + 10.4.9 + growisofs to work.
Lam47.. you go first.. 10.4.9 ? External burner ?
-
Could try a beta of cdrtools...
ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/alpha/
I don't have an external burner for testing on this one...
Might post a request for errors here too:

Well, something to try is to load the old (10.4.8) kexts in place of the new ones...
10.4.9 came out on 3/13/07.. based on that it looks like they updated the following kexts:
System.kext
IPFirewall.kext
IOPCIFamily.kext
IONDRVSupport.kext
IOGraphicsFamily.kext
AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext
The system, firewall, and graphics ones are probablly pretty harmless here.. That leaves IOPCIFamily
So, who wants to try and load up the 10.4.8 IOPCIFamily kext?
(NOTE: Not for newbs... you need proper permissions and you need to properly kextload the kernel extension for it to work. Failure to do so could lead to an unbootable system!)

Since my MBP is pretty virgin, I think I can risk it. If all fails, then in the worst case I have to reinstall OSX.
Can you talk me through it ? (msn maybe ? (I have an XP laptop from work.. so I can put that next to my MBP).

Just thought I'd share my recent experience
When burning from a directory with long file names iBurn will just hang and give a recording finished message right after a minute or so.
I've burned quite a few coasters when I had weird directory names, but once I renamed the directories to something shorter not 1 coaster
I'm on 10.4.9 using pioneer 111d's

AFAICT IONDRVSupport.kext is a graphics card extension...
I'm looking in to a few other possibilities; in any case add me on MSN: [email protected] (I don't use msn often, but I'll try and stay on for a day or two

i have gotten iburn 360 to work on mac os x 10.4.9 using verbatim discs and a pioneer 112d.
i did have to cut down on the directory name and drag it directly from my desktop for it to work. before i did that only half the image burned.
now when i had a file that needed patching it would not advance past the patching stage (never would start burning).
the working image did not need a patch (and i think that is why it worked).
so maybe patching is the problem in 10.4.9? just a thought.
is there another way i can patch an image other than patching in iburn?
-
Thanks guys everything works fine. Not one coaster!
Using pioneer 111D, macos 10.4.9, PPC G5 1.6ghz, Verbatim discs @ 4x speed + Hitachi 360 drive.
Looking forward to a new version of iburn!

How can I burn a <4gb game on a single layer disc using mac os x?

I use Iburn360 burning DVD-DL on OSX 10.4.9. Did anyone discover that some back-ups will open at Mac DVD-player and play a video : «This is a XBOX 360 disc, please insert in a xbox360...» after back-up 100% finished? But there are some games like « NBA street», «ninty nine nights», « Rumble Rose xx» etc. don´t mount on desktop. Why?

Put the xbox360 game in your drive and you will see the same.

Hei,
OSX 10.4.10 is out. Has anyone tested that Iburn360 works both with internal and external firewire burning in osx 10.4.10? When will the new vers. Iburn360 come out?
br.
-
Just had some strange behaviour, everything was fine after 10.4.10 but did the security update last night.
Commenced a burn as per usual clicked burn patched it then the drive span up as usual but iburn didnt report anything i.e. 1%2% etc but it sounds like the drive is burning.
I'll wait and see if it burns or not.

I think its just this backup. Works on another one! Phew!

Sorry for asking this but i've been searching for this in several forums and can't seem to find the answer..
I have a PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K05 in my iMac. Do I need to buy a new burner?
Again, sorry for asking but I really would like to know (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

It looks like your burner does do DL's so I presume you will be ok.
DVR-K05
Give it a go, all that could happen is a wasted DL disc rather than buying a new drive needlessly.

idog........... Can you please take a look at post #214?
I dunno if I missed it or not, but I tried to burn an image earlier today and I got an error saying that I needed to patch my image...
Since I have an NME mod, my image is already patched....
You mentioned you're going to add a burn-as-is button, or whatever.... Did I miss that update, or did that update ever come out??
I'm currently using the Terminal method to burn 360 games... I would like to try iBurn360...
Thanks!!!

Hi, if anyone could tell me what I'm doing wrong I'd sincerely appreciate it.
So, I got this Gears of War image named .000 and one .dvd. As far as I know the .dvd is useless for me.
I copy the .000 image to a PC and patch it with NME-360 associator (selecting that the SS files is inside the image or something) and copy it back to my Mac.
I make sure the image is 7.705.657.344 in size and drop the image to iBurn360 and set the layer break to 1913760.
Using Verbatim discs and speed at 2.4x.
When trying to play the game I get the famous "To play this game, please insert into a Xbox 360 console" or something like that.
Hardware: 360 with Xeno360 chip.
Thanks!

Sounds like you have the same issue as Dopeyman and for now may need to use terminal to burn.
-
Tried using the terminal, burning went fine but still...it doesn't work. Same error "to play this game, insert into a xbox 360".
Even when I check the disk image I get "GOW.iso: ISO 9660 CD-ROM filesystem data 'XBOX360" when using the file command.
Using a Macbook with Matshita UJ-857D drive for what it's worth.
Thanks

Nevermind, found out what was wrong. Not worth mentioning =)

Hi, I have the same problem as some guys before. I drag&drop the .iso or .000 file into iBurn and click BURN; it then asks me to patch the file; i hit PATCH and nothing happens... cannot start the burning procedure itself. This happened to just 3 out of 13 games... I have no idea why. Using an iMac G5 (iSight) and Verbatim or Traxdata DLs.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Yeh Ive had a similar prob when burning, only happened with one backup tho. It would patch then when clicked burn it would not update in the window as to whats happening, it sounded like it was burning but just kept spinning endlessly and I ended up with a coaster.
Although I got the same .iso to work via terminal.

Turns out I were using an old version of the NME-360 associator which didn't really patch the games correctly. So much for the wasted dvds hehe..

is there any type of ripping solution on the mac?

Apologies if this is a daft (or already answered) question, but: does iBurn360 work OK with "iXtreme" images? I'm not sure what the pre-burn patching does to the image, I presume it doesn't do anything that would break the iXtreme stealthing? Thanks in advance.

If your image is completely prepared the way you want it, I would not do any additional patching. If iBurn won't accept it, then I would suggest burning from the commandline.
-
Could you point me to the exact terminal command(s) required to burn? Thanks in advance.
I've tried burning an iXtreme-compatible image with iBurn360 (allowing it to patch when requested), and it booted fine on a MS25 with iXtreme 1.2c. I'm probably just being paranoid - what does the iBurn patching actually do?

It just makes the system see it as a burnable image. you are probably fine if it all works. There are various ways to test if your discs are stealth, and all that other stuff is correct. if it passes those, then you shouldn't have an issue.
BTW the terminal commands are in this thread.

Just found this thread - apologies for not searching properly before
Burned two iXtreme backups with iBurn360 so far, and both are fine booting. Interestingly, the ISO's show up as "proper" ISOs using the "file" command, so I'm not sure why iBurn is asking to patch them. I'll trust that iXtreme won't boot anything except a 'true' stealth disc, and I'll burn from the Terminal in future.
Thanks again.

This happened to me too, except after a long time I rebooted. When I rebooted, It showed the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders on the dvd in my drive. When I inserted it into the 360, it just gave me the Open Tray error. I'm burning it in Terminal now, and I'm at least getting a progress report unlike in iburn.

Ok, I'm trying to use the STOCK matshita superdrive in my core 2 duo imac... I now have 2 verbatim coasters. I tried once with iburn360, and tried the next time with terminal. Both burned successfully 100%, but are unplayable when put in the 360. I know the iso is working and its not the problem. What is going wrong here, I don't get it? This is the first time I've tried this, normally I use a pioneer 111 in a pc, but the pc is down right now so I want the apple to work.
Can someone with the INTEL mac, with the MATSHITA drive please help me out here...

No, I don't want to put bootcamp or parallels on there... I think that drive just can't burn 360 games right, who knows. I brought out my old pc, put the pioneer in there, and burned. It was extra work, but no coasters.
-
Hei,
Sometimes Iburn360 finisheded at 99,9% but sometimes at 100%. Both of them displayed "recording finished". Does this means both of them burned successfully?
thks

Both burned successfully 100%, but are unplayable when put in the 360. I know the iso is working and its not the problem. What is going wrong here, I don't get it? This is the first time I've tried this, normally I use a pioneer 111 in a pc, but the pc is down right now so I want the apple to work.
Can someone with the INTEL mac, with the MATSHITA drive please help me out here...
Thanks
You probably have an old firmware on your 360 and the games are iXtreme patches or something.
Had almost the same problem (though I didn't burn them myself) but after a firmware upgrade of my 360 drive they're working perfectly.

Hello,
I have a MacBook Pro Intel Core2Duo 2.4Ghz 2GB of ram, with Mac Os X 10.4.10
I have used iBurn360 0.19 and burned until 100% successfully a Verbatim DVD+R DL.
The DVD+R DL can be read on my Mac (opens as a video dvd with the xbox360 compatible screen)
However, when I put the dvd in my xbox360 flashed with latest firmware (hitachi 47d drive), the xbox says the disk is unreadable!
Here are details about the dvd burner on my mac:

Do you have any clue what I should do to be able to burn correctly games ?
Is my burner compatible, has anyone successfully been burning with the same drive ?
This is my very first copy and I feel desperate as it doesn't work (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Has anyone gotten dvdrwtools to compile in OS X 10.5 Leopard?
I get the following errors from make with the latest version of xcode:
gcc -D__unix -O2 -c -o growisofs.o growisofs.c
In file included from growisofs.c:419:
/usr/include/sys/stat.h:261: error: redefinition of 'struct stat'
make[1]: *** [growisofs.o] Error 1
make: *** [all] Error 2

Me neither, I get the same terminal output!
-
iburn still works fine for me in leopard. Guess Im lucky!
-
iburn still works for me too, since it comes with growisofs.
Problem is, we can't compile growisofs through the terminal! Some people still like doing things the "hard" way (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Can someone share this growisofs 1.2 installer by appleguru?
iBurn doesn't work for me.
I got a MacBook with Matshita UJ-857D (Dual Layer is supported). My OS X is a Tiger.
When i select the drive (it's normally recognized with DVD DL inside) and image, and i press "Burn" it just says "Burning finished" (or something like that) and does notching :/
Thats why i wanna try growisofs with Terminal
Thanks for help!

You should be able to get growisofs from within iburn if you right click on the app and show package contents then find growisofs, im sure the commands are in this thread to burn using it in terminal.
You will need some terminal knowledge!
Good luck

I've been burning backups on my Macbook Pro several times with Iburn360 and I haven't had any problems with it. But what it seems after I installed Leopard the backups get unreadable in the Xbox.
Anyone else have this problem? Or o anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.

I can't figure out how to make the backup copy. I have iBurn360, but how do I extract the image from the 360 game? Are there step by step instructions anywhere? I read the PDF included with iBurn, but it didn't say how to get the IMAGE off the drive? ANYONE?!?!

I just downloaded the alpha version of the Iburn app that appelguru posted earlier in this thread. Should that do it?

Well then what are people burning with iBurn? Just downloaded iso's from torrents or such?

Many people do not have a DVD Writer other than the one on their Mac, but have an older Windows machine.
Please do not discuss downloading games as it is explicitly against the rules of the forum.

Are verbatims still the media of choice when burning on apples stock Matshita superdrive?
-
Sorry for the double post. Couldnt seem to find an edit button anywhere.
So... I have a macmini 1.63 GHZ Intel, with the internal matshita drive. I tried using iburn 360 to burn an image on a verb 8X from singapore. No luck, just got the "to play this game, put it in an xbox 360 console" screen. I checked it out in finder and it mounted and played that same screen in my media player. Now, I tried to burn another image on a friends PC last night... but it was on a memorex disc and I got the same error. I have a freshly flashed MS25 Sammy with Ixtreme 1.3.
I've only tried these two backups and I have yet to see one boot. Originals still work however. Do you think I have an unsuccessful burn or flash? Or am I just missing something all together.
Please god help me. Thanks.

Any update on the 'Leopard' issue
I have had a few coasters burnt since upgrading to leopard.
Please help.
Cheers
-
Hmm, thats weird about the leopard issue, my burns are still flawless even after upgrading to leopard, not a single coaster with iburn, i have a mac pro with the stock Optiarc burner, using TDK media.

been searching for hours whether my dl dvd burner supports bitsetting. I have a hitachi 360 drive and using a intel macbook with HL-DT-ST DVDRW GWA4080MA burner using OSX tiger. Will the my mac dvd bitset? What prgram to use to burn backups....iburn or osx360 or something else? Please reply as I'm exhausted from googling for hours on end.

what could be the rootcause of this issue:
when trying to burn using iburn or osx360 on my imac, using verbs and a checked image, it often stops/fails/says burn is complete after just one minute. ie a coaster.
what is wierd though, is if i reboot, try a few times (killing lots of discs etc), then it sometimes works.
any thoughts on what causes the failure after one minute?

I recently flash my Hitachi 47 drive with iXtreme 1.4 with no problems. I have not had a chance to get the recommended Verbatim DVD+R DL but I had some memorex DVD+R DL laying out. I tried burning a backup ISO on my PC using a NEC 3530a with ImgBurn and I got nothing but I/O errors. After searching the forum, I found that it could be the burner, the blanks, or both.
So I jumped on my late model 2008 Mac Book Pro, installed iBurn360 and copied the iso (confirmed iXtreme and Stealth on the PC before burning on the mac) and it burned with no problem. The mac was able to read the disc (DVD Player loaded with a short animation then telling me to enter the disc inside a xbox 360) and I continued to try it out on the 360 but the 360 did not read it on my Hitachi 47 drive.
I'm trying to figure out if its the burner or the blanks that I am using or something else. Did I miss something?
