There are a couple already made, but its been a while and there are newer firmwares available and now seems to be a good time to begin a new thread.
Let me start each of these thread by saying YOU CANNOT GO WRONG PURCHASING VERBATIM DVD+R DL DISCS!
they are currently the best discs available for 360 backups, flat out.
you can get them fairly cheap, sometimes as low as $1.50 a disk in packs of 10-30.
any other media you use, may work for you at first, but dont be surprised to see a dirty disc error in the future.
store brands, off brands, etc.)
anyways, lets try and keep this thread clean, stating what works in the same format.
(I am putting this in both hitatchi and samsung threads as an example, please keep it as clean as you can with what works.)

resuls: burnout...........working, quake 4........when ever it wants, doesn´t boot all the time,
and dead rising is dead.....it boots to black screen or either dirty disc error.
As far as I know I can´t make xtreme type backups with this drive, since it can´t unlock game files,
and it´s the reason why i´m using wxripper.
Correct me If i´m wrong, but if I can make backups using this xbox drive, please point me out, i´ve used
the search button and google so much without luck.

Heres the thing, the Disks were burned perfectly fine. It reads as Xbox360 Disk on my pc... if i double click on it on my PC, it opens up in WMP telling me to put it in a 360 console to play... so it really has nothing to do with my burner's FW.
It has to do with how fussy the DVD-Rom drive in the 360 is.
I don't think jesterrace is saying that media other than Verbatim will not work... he was just responding to the post that said "with the 111-D drive, any form of media works." I wish it were true cause I could just go for pure price, but thats simply not the case, as I unfortunately found out.
I'd be interested to see if anyone has had any issues with Verbatim on the 111-D. So far from what I've read, its worked all the time.
There are those who unfortunately cannot get Verbatim to work. There is no such thing as 100% compatible media no matter what the application. However, they are still by far the most versatile D/L media on the market. You are correct that I am not stating that other media will not work, I was merely pointing out that the guy who posted that anything works on the Pioneer 111D is making a HUGE ASSumption. Plenty of evidence here that supports that other media is not as compatible as the Verbatim and as I have been trying to point out, there are precious few here who are thinking about the long term consequences of using such media (ie error rate scans, ect). That being said, if you do live in North America there are plenty of excellent sales on Verbatim media that often bring them down to the point where there either isn't much difference in price between them and the cheap quality stuff or in some cases that they are even cheaper (usually some form of rebate involved though). I got a 20 pack from newegg about 3 weeks ago that was $31 shipped (roughly $1.55 a disc) and there was a $10 MIR on top of that, works out to $1.05 a disc after rebate. I can't even get POS D/L media for that cheap. For those who live overseas the Verbatim cause isn't completely hopeless. Most in Europe are able to order from http://www.svp.co.uk. 10 packs of Verbatim for 14 pounds (including VAT). I know there are cheaper options for D/L media but it's still not that bad when you factor in everything that I have mentioned.

In General I am using the Tuffdiscs as they are cheaper and work fine
on my particular 360's
Just to say they work on mine does not mean they will automatically work on somone elses.
It has many factors.
Mostly to do with the laser calibration in your 360 drive I think.
Although error scans show that the pioneer is a quality burner.
I guess that I am lucky that both my 360's dvd drives have come out of the factory
very well calibrated and seem to read media very well.
A Samsung MS25 drive that I flashed for a friend will only read the Verbs and gives an open tray
error on the tuffdiscs that have no problems on my machine.
Hence all Xbox360 drives are not equal.

Burned Dead Rising and Enchanted Arms at 2.4x using CloneCD [latest version], set booktype/bitsetting to DVD-ROM with DVD Info Pro. Both games loaded flawlessly and damn near instantly as fast as an original game loads and I have played both for about 2 hours a piece.
100% success so far. I was under the impression that Hitachi's were really really picky about media type and burner. However this LiteOn seems to be executing flawless burns on this Ritek media. If proof if needed I WILL take pictures/live video.

RESULTS: Works perfectly for Saints Row, Godfather, NHL 07, Dead or Alive, Table Tennis, Just Cause, Splinter Cell, Condemmed, etc etc. One or more of these steps may not be necissay (ie, setting the booktype), but I decided to play it on the safe side and it worked great for me. I've never had any dirty disc or tray empty or had to use any tricks to get media to boot. 100% success rate.

in the meantime, i wanted to figure out why clonecd worked and the other apps failed so i have tried a few more burns with this memorex drive and ended up with some good results. in fact, both imgburn and xbox backup creator are now burning my backups properly so i did not figure out why they failed earlier, but i am chalking it up to being too tired. maybe it was simply the older FW, but everything works well enough now.
i have not tried burning with nero because i was not planing to use it for xbox 360 backups. i actually tried nero the other night hoping it would work when nothing else was working; so i skipped it this time.

well i have a x64 system and the funny thing is it rips fine within xp , but when i try to burn with xbox creator the app crashes
so i set a dual boot with win2k and it burns fine inside there.
now im not sure weather i have a bad burn on gears of wars since it loads to the start screen ;reason being i bought dead rising and it does the exact same thing so im think i have a dvd issue , just can figure out how to trouble shoot it .

That's great that you got them working but if you look around a bit you can Verbatim for the same price or less. Newegg currently has 20 packs of Verbatim in 20 packs for $37 shipped and then a $10 MIR on top of that. So $27 shipped AR or $1.35 per disc (versus the Memorex you listed for $1.40 a disc). I guess it's just me but I don't see any point taking a gamble with the cheap quality stuff when you can get the highest rated discs for the same price or less.

Could you be any more vague? A "Regular DVD Burner" that came with your computer doesn't tell us jack. Give us the manufacturer and model number (and don't you dare say Dell, Gateway, ect.). In addition what DVD-ROM drive does your 360 have and what firmware revision?

So , i burnt the disks using my lite on = 100% succes , seems to be my sony thats letting me down
reburnt Dead rising ( 0.81X , from a external usb 1 hard drive) and it works so much faster and doesn't seem to 'choke' like the first copy i made on the sony does .

You sure that will work? I know for sure that the USB360 won't work with the V78FK AND Maximus 3.0. The deal is that the drive won't detect with that config unless you use Slax V2.1 first and then to top it off Maximus 3.0 won't work at all with the 360USB.

MEDIA-VERBATIM 2.4x official rated D/L DVD+R (MKM001), WHAT ELSE???? Burned at 4x, 6x and 8x all with perfect working results although I notice that the 8x ones seem to take longer with the initial load. Certainly no need to burn at 2.4x though.

i burned madden successfully with clonecd
i tried tiger woods pga tour 07 with clone cd and set up mentioned above and it doesn't work
wtf?
also burned call of duty 3, and tom clancy's rainbow 6 vegas but have yet to test them
anyone know why tiger woods wouldn't burn?
i tried it on a different burner using imgburn and it worked but it was a friends copy
i thought pioneer 111d and verbatims were idiotproof
doesn't work with 100% accuracy
going to go try tiger woods using imgburn and see how it goes

I tried burning tiger woods again using img burn and it didn't work again
tony hawk and call of duty 3 worked great
rainbow six also failed to work
is there certain programs that work better?
like img burn > clonecd?
are certain releases just more prone to work?
out of like 6 times burning tiger woods i had 1 success

when i burn using clonecd i add the layerbreak line into the .dvd file
when i do it with img burn or dvddecrypter i remove it and set it in the settings
finally got tiger woods burned but now vegas is 0 for 2
at this point i'm at like a 50 - 50 ratio
any idea what oculd be causing this inconsistency?
my computer isn't that good so maybe tha'ts what's cuasing it
i have a p4 2.4 with 1gb of ram
i have 2 hd's connected to it and a dvd rom as well
any help would be great
does burning at 1x help?

I used the USB Kit and it put my Hitachi into driveb for me and it was easy to flash from there. It brought up the drive in windows xp without a problem.
The Pioneer 112d worked awesome with Xbox Backup Creator. Didn't need to change any settings and it read and wrote to dvd without any problems. It also worked straight out of the box, no downloading needed.
Tested 2 backups so far and they play great. I didn't have to do the rubberband trick or anything.

i read all the usefull stuff of the forum (really usefull tutorials

I know all the world says to buy the verbs, but for me (i've burned all kinds of media, from the most expensive and pretty hard to find verbatim to the cheaper CMC D04, passing through the mid-range ricohjp D01, and ALL work fine!) with pio 111d you could even burn a stone plate and it could work! I guess the media compatibility issue doesn't affect this steel balls equipped burner!

SET 2 : TDK DVD +DL / Lost Planet, The Darkness, Flatout Carnige works when it suits the 360.
( Keep ejecting and loading till game finally loads )
Usually takes 4-5 tries before loading without unplayable/eject tray error
Will ixtreme 1.2 rev make a difference beside's Live ?

You clearly aren't shopping for the best price on Verbs then. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) There is a nice guy in the US who can ship the MKM001 manufactured discs (Verbatim) over to you for less than 2 Euro per disc with shipping included.
@razor the firmware probably won't help with your media compatibility. It's primary function is to help out with XBL.
