its a much better deal than paying 65.99 for verbatims atm... would these discs possibly suit my needs in a pioneer 111D and hitachi-lg xbox 360?

I'm considering picking up a pack.

I've been coastering plenty of verbatims (since i'm pretty new to this stuff) and at the high cost of those discs, even If I coaster 50% more phillips discs I'm still coming ahead cash wise (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) lol

This is just an update to the situation for anyone who had checked this thread

Since my last post I have picked up 1 spindle of these discs and I have not been dissappointed... burned 2 backups, both of which were perfect... Not only perfect but there seems to be a significant decrease in initial load time (from xbox dash to game bootup) when compared to the verbatim discs I was using beforehand.

So Pioneer 111D + Hitachi-LG + Phillips DVD+R DL = WORKS for me at least... thanks for all the help

Ive had great success with HP DVD DL+R media burning with the Pio 111D for my Hitachi Drive.

I also use the RiDATA discs, which also work very well.

Nah man, use http://www.dvdinfopro.com and pop either a blank or a burned Phillips D/L DVD+R disc into your burner. Then select the media ID icon in the program and copy and paste the info back here. Take a look at the manufacturer ID as that is what really matters (as pointed out above most name brands usually outsource to more than one manufacturer, which have differing quality standards). This way we can really help others narrow down what works.

I'm using the same Philips Disc's as Thalus.

The DVDInfoPro Info is:

Media code/Manufacturer ID: CMC MAG D04
Media Product Revision Number: 00h

To be honest the only real reason i use verbs is the burn time is a third of the time of other brands.

That's because most burners now will support them up to 8x whereas virtually all other media is stuck at 2.4x or 4x (should say something about the quality difference). @Electroz, that doesn't surprise me that they are CMC Mag, I checked on another forum and that seems to be the general findings on Phillips thus far. So far the scans I have seen are NOT very promising but then again I guess it all depens on how long you plan on playing your backups. Also, I haven't seen THAT many scans yet, so I am still holding out my final judgement on them.

Are you saying that the "crappier" media can wear out the laser? If not, please explain what you mean.

I think he means after a while, a crappier media will just not work anymore ..

by the way .. you're not lucky Thalus because 2 weeks ago, futureshop had a deal with the verbatims dvd+dl. They were 34$ for 20dvd. (that's 1.90$/per dvd after taxes)

and I must say that so far, I'm very impressed with this media (verbatim). My old backups were made on memorex dvd+dl and some backups doesn't always work.. (some only works when the xbox is cold) . My verbatim backups doesn't have this problem so far

You hit the nail on the head there vyse. You are correct, media that gives poor error rate scans TEND to become unreadable after a relatively short period of time (could be a few months, could be a couple of years). Of course it's not an exact science but it is nice to give you a heads up of what to expect rather than finding out the hard way.
