So you are saying that your Pioneer 108 doesn't set the booktype to DVD-ROM for you? Have you tried popping that burned disc into your burner and using the media ID icon in http://www.dvdinfopro.com to tell you for sure if the booktype was set to DVD-ROM on your disc? Anyways, the most cost effective solution IMHO would be a Pioneer 111D for your desktop. Under $35 USD shipped from newegg.com (if you are in the US). Superb drive and very flexible for all applications. I can confirm for sure that it will set the booktype to DVD-ROM on double layer discs right out of the box.

Why on earth would you want to do that? All that does is screw over your compatibility. It certainly won't help anything out.

As I said before it shouldn't be an issue. I have yet to see ANY hardware that will read a +R booktype disc but it won't read a DVD-ROM booktype disc.

Liteon burners allow to change booktype to write DVD+R DL. They actually burn like this out of the box. Download a free Liteon Booktype utiliity from their site to change what the burner sets booktype as (eg. DVD-ROM). It remembers this setting permanently until it is changed again by program (you can turn off computer and never have to adjust it again).
BTW, Liteon burners also work good for WxRipper and have magnetic DVD holder so disc doesn't go flyin!
