Yes, try getting a pioneer 111d, update it to TDB's 1.23.  Then use verb media.  Works 100% of the time.

Assuming your drive is properly flashed, you created the file properly, ect.  then burner/firmware, booktype setting and of course high quality media (D/L Verbatim DVD+R) are the next natural explinations.  Remember that settting the booktype will never hurt your compatibility, but it can hurt things if you don't set it.  The deal is that the leadout on +R discs by default are read differently than a factory pressed disc or -R format disc.  Setting the booktype to DVD-ROM on +R makes the disc read like a factory pressed DVD-ROM.
