no you dont necceserely..

Im using the exact same burner with firmware 1.1 on a Hitachi 47D and it works okey..

I used Clone CD and set it on 2-2,4 X speed..  This was a Quake 4 backup and in the beginning it didnt work, but then when I loaded the game, took out the hardrive (while the xbox 360 was booting) and inserted it again it worked..

Try that wink.gif Might work..

hope this helps
got my drive into mode-b using crossed wire method(held wires together for about a second,no problems)
flashed using geebs modified bat files, worked first time
opened dvdinfo to make sure drive was set to dvd-rom
burnt backup using clone cd at 2.4x speed
inserted disk into 360 kept getting open tray message, used hard drive trick ,worked, and has done for call of duty 2,far cry, fifa, got no more to try.
drive-LITE-ON DVDRW SHW-1635S
disks-Verbatim,data life plus,double layer,dvd+r.8.5gb,2.4x certified

motherboard-asus p4p800dx
onboard serial ata, using slax live to show disk would'nt work so used wire method was worried at first to try it,but you never learn anything if you do'nt try.
the wire i used was off an old power supply,i just stripped them back enough to sit beside the other wires
