Title: Audio Question Regarding 5.1
Post by: lostboyz on May 19, 2006, 08:43:00 PM
Just picked up this Sony 5.1 Receiver from a garage sale yesterday (got it for $20, resales on amazon for $130)

Either way the 5.1 is entered through 6 RCA jacks (Front Left, right,Rear left, right....) or it just plays virtual surround

Was wondering if there were some cheap solution to plug in my 360 via optical using some type of decoder

if not i still got a pretty cheap amp.

Thanks in advance

Well you could just buy a surround sound decoder. Theyre fairly cheap. There are a few on ebay at the moment.

yeah back when the digital surround sound formats were first coming out they used to make the decoders separate but it seemed like every 6 months the formats would change or there would be a better one out...

ebay is probably you best bet as I don't think anyone makes separate decoders these days...

back when they were new the decoders used to go for $100-$150 to give you an idea of what they might be worth today.
