Title: Hd Gaming On A 4:3?
Post by: colinepp on May 17, 2006, 09:36:00 PM
Well, just got my tv fixed (54 inch samsung) and when I try to play Halo 2 split screen it splits the screen verticle, I went to display settings and there are no ways for me to switch to normal display. Am I stuck playing at a lower resolution that will allow a normal display or is there a way around this, thanks!

HD resolutions are widescreen only.

There are HD sets out there that are 4:3. HD should be letterboxed if this is the case with your TV.

EDTV is Enhanced Definition TV which is 480p
So it's similar to SDTV except the image is progressive scan instead of interlaced
again it's 640x480 for square screens and 720x480 for wide screens

Does that help?  So, 480p is the only "HD (if you really considder it HD, really Enhanced Definition)" resolution that supports 4:3 AND Widescreen screens.  I don't think 720 or 1080 can.
