Title: 1080i Vs 720p
Post by: 18visions on March 14, 2006, 02:05:00 AM
Well I finally found a affordable HDTV.  Samsung 30" Wide SlimFit™ HDTV - TXR3079 .  How ever its inputs state its only 480p and 1080i (no 720p).  Now my question is.  Is there a difference between 1080i and 720P?  Or would you have to be a real picky bastard to find a difference.  I'm sort of a TV tech NOOB so go easy on me.

PS. What does HDTV mean?  Is this truly a HDTV?  Should I go for a TV that supports 720P ?  The TV listed is affordable.  But I want a REAL HDTV that is going use the xbox 360 outputs to the fullest.

Update,  http://www.samsung.c...3079WHKXXAA.asp .

Apparantly it does have 720P input.  So this changes my question to. Is this a true HDTV?  Is it going to be as good as those LCD and Projection ones you see?  I'm sorry for the questions.  I just really need a grasp on this TV tech stuff.

Yes 720p is HD.  If the TV supports both 720p and 1080i, find out what the TV's native resolution is, and that'll be the one that will look better.

Anyone know what the native mode is on this TV.  Can't seem to find that information.

My brother has that exact same TV, and the picture quality is terrible.  One of the worst HDTV's i've seen.  He ended up buying a Westy 37" LCD, and the difference is amazing.

He bought the samsung 30" CRT at bestbuy for about $700.  So i guess you get what you pay for.  To get a good HDTV, plan on spending $1500 to $2000.

Starting to realize that sad.gif .  Hate to keep asking about TV brands.  But any opionons on the JVC I-Art AV-30W585   ?  This one actually sounds good from the reviews.  Same price as the TV I already mentioned

This one here seems reasonable too.  Sharp LC-26DA5U 26" LCD TV

I have a JVC I'Art (AV34wp84).  It looks friggin fantastic!  A good friend has a 4:3 I'Art model, and it's IQ is really good, too.  My next wet will be a JVC 1080p d-ILA set.
I'm very pleased.
