I've had a similar problem, though my audio (via any HDMI cord I use) skips like a record (i.e., momentarily) every six seconds or so on Xbox games. It doesn't do it on satellite TV...hmmm. I sent the 360 in for repairs, and it's still doing it, so it must be the TV. Any ideas anyone?
I had a similar problem with my HDMI.. if I played for more than an hour or so my audio would go out and stay out until I reset the TV.
That happened for about the last month or two. Then out of the blue I got an E-74 error.

My further question would be, how do I bypass the HDMI cord for audio to the 360 and other components? I don't know too much about Dolby, but it seems like you can just hook up a surround sound system and that takes over the HDMI audio? Is that accurate?
MS has a dongle that comes packaged with the elite, but im sure it can be had seperatly, it connects into the AV port of the xbox 360, While still using the HDMI for Video, it offers Optical and RCA Left/Right connections
