It's not the cable. HDMI carries a digital signal, so it's either a beautiful picture, or it's no picture at all.

because HDMI is a digital signal and everything else is an analog signal. the two signals get produced very differently (hence the reason why a HDMI 360 has a HANA chip while a non HDMI console does not)
i would put it down to a faulty HANA chip not doing HDMI encoding properly
