Title: Why Does 1280x1024 Wide Work?
Post by: Tiuk on November 30, 2007, 01:31:00 PM
This is something that has been bugging me for about a year. As we all know (or at least those of us who use our 360s on widescreen computer monitors), the Xbox 360 doesn't support 16:10 resolutions. Which means the 1680x1050 resolution of my monitor is not supported. So, I run it at 1280x1024 and set it to "Widescreen". This somehow fills every pixel of my monitor (no black bars), and there is no stretching whatsoever. I absolutely cannot wrap my mind around how this works. If anyone could explain it to me, I'd be extremely grateful.

I also use 1280x1024 WIDESCREEN on my PC CRT.  The resolution is definitely higher then 1280x1024 STANDARD screen.  I'm guessing it is 1820 x 1024.  Mainly because 16:9 aspect ratio is 1.78:1, and the vertical frequency is just under what 1080p is.

That being said, there is no way it 16:10, and thereby is stretching it to fill you're screen.

Maybe it is and I just don't notice it. I guess if I always play on the same screen it's going to look like that's the way it's supposed to be for me. I'd like to think that if it were drastically stretched I'd be able to tell, so maybe it just isn't very noticeable. Anyone else playing on a 16:10 monitor and want to chime in with the settings they use?
