Title: Sharing A Monitor Between Pc/360
Post by: bidomo on March 15, 2007, 03:16:00 PM
Hi everyone!
Well, I want to share my CRT between my little friends, my pc and my 360, but KMV switches are pretty expensive around here and they're all for a minimun of 4 outputs (that's why they're expensive), but is not like I'm gonna share a mouse or keyboard, only the CRT...
I have some VGA type connectors (male/female) but I don't know how to wire it, I mean, I don't know if it'll require protection, my first Idea is to make extensions from CPU/360 back with a cable made of male/female combo to just unplug/replug from one to another, but is a kinda dirty work...
I don't know how to go ahead, so any suggestion will be highly appreciated

well you best bet would be a KVM. you can make up your own switch, but the net result will most likely be bad picture quality.
should should be able to get KVM's for 2 computers. you might need to make a y ps/2 cable to power it though
sorry i cant be of more help

Could get a VGA switchbox. Ebay do some cheap ones. ive seen decent results, but if you're using a crappy cable, it could make the signal worse. Im trying it when i get mine.

Yeah I agree, you can get cheapo KVMs from ebay and the quality, whilst not the best, is still quite decent. You would have to be looking hard to see any inperfections caused by the cheap wiring. There is no real need for an expensive branded KVM. Mine cost only 10USD and came with 2 VGA cables as well.

I didn't need a KVM since I'm only using one PC. Now I'll be able to plug in PC, XBOX, and 360 all together. I haven't got it yet since I ordered last night. I'll update when I get it.
Actually I canceled my order. After reading more into Switchboxes I learned that they typically only go up to SVGA (1024x786) which isn't going to cut it since I wanted 1080p.
