That may be a typo but what about this picture from play-asia.com. That A/V cable looks like it has an HDMI port at the end of the lead doesnt it? is that a typo too?

Just buy a DVI to HDMI connector. $8 on the net.

They need a chipset added to trully support HDMI which the 360 does not have.

A DVI to HDMI connector will do not good for the 360.  You cannot go from analog to digital, and visa versa.

The 360 GPU does support digital out.  The problem is the analog video encoder.  If they could find a feasable way to bypass the encoder and go strait to the video card (GPU), this hdmi would be possible.

They already have them made...they just dont want to go out and announce it "officially".

Ok based off that you show me the digital output from the current shipping 360's av port...you cant cause its not there.

much like I wont show you a 360 hdmi connector.

There are currently 6 unused pins on the 360 av cable, HDMI uses 5 lines to transmit the signal along the cable to the TV set and requires 11 signals input to the HDMI IC. The IC can be put between the 360 av out port and the TV set inside the actual av cable.
It requires these signals to transmit: VSYNC, HSYNC, S/PDIF, MCLK, IDCK, DE, D[23-0], RESET, I2C, INT, HPD thats 11 signals.
H-Sync, V-Sync already exist on the 360 output port so that leaves us with 9 signals minus 6 unused pins, that leaves 3 additional signals that dont have a path to travel.
Lets take out S/PDIF and MCLK, thats  would be the audio, because we already have optical out on the AV cable,  we dont need audio input to the HDMI IC.
Optical to S/PDIF i believe is very easy to do and that leaves us with one signal needed:
Well lets see lets take the reset signal for example: it could be either a low and toggle on high,
or a high and togle on low.
Either, or, I'm sure the logic is 3.3 V.
So for the reset it is plausable to rewrite the software to otput a steady 3.3 v signal on one of the audio channels. Or no signal then just a 3.3 v spike to toggle the reset.
The destinction between one of the audio channels being that or the reset signal, could be identified as simply as a switch like on the HDTV cable that comes with the Premium console.
USE VGA, USE COMPOSITE i think identifies between normal operation and hdtv operation for the AV signal.
When both are toggled could be as USE HDMI and send 3.3 v data down one of the audio channels.

you dont accidentally write HDMI on a bundle and then say it was a "typo", and the only reason they are denying it is beacuse it got released before they wanted the general public to know, rembmer the HD DVD drive? they were saying we will never make one and then next thing you know boom 199.99 at the store.

^^Yep. The only thing I'm worrying about is if all of us that bought the 360 are gonna get screwed with a hardware revision or just bitch-whipped with a new cable, dominatrix style. Microsoft has already announced production changes to the cpu die size (down to 68nm), right? Whats saying they wont make changes to other parts of the system? I'm gonna look like a total jackass with my external HD-DVD player when all the 360 newbs come in with their slightly more expensive but integrated HD-DVD drive 360's. Might as well lube up everyone, here comes Microsoft's enormous, corporate, wang! unsure.gif  Hopefully they're turning around and they won't fuck us. Capiche?

That made me laugh....But i completely agree with you... It would suck so much if they did that.

I don't think Microsoft ever said they would never make a HD-DVD player, just that they would never make an integrated one or one that would be used for game playback.

It is really weird to call that a typo though, these things get checked quite a few time before they get printed.

It would suck if they came out with one that did have HDMI, but who knows.
