So you guys would recomend running my 2405 off a vga cable vs. component.
it dephends on your TV's scaler, i have 2 LCD HDTVs at home, one is an expensive Sony Bravia. both vs vga & component, and VGA is the better image, refresh.
i even tested on 4 of my friends TV (i took my VGA cable at their home
) and VGA is winner by far IMO.

I know the 2405 recognizes a 720p component signal and corrects the aspect ratio accordingly, but would it do the same for vga?
Yes.
