optical i hear is a lot clearer, but ive never had an optical compliant reciever... just connect the red and white RCA jacks to your home theatre system and crank it up.

Actually no you CANNOT plug your Xbox into a reciever without a decoder and expect to get Surround Sound.

IoG is aparently listening to Dolby Pro Logic II which despite using analog interconnects still requires a decoder.

I you want to use Surround Sound with your system you'll need to pickup a stand alone decoder or buy a new surround sound system altogether

This is the CHEAPEST stand alone decoder on the market AFAIK Is made by Creative: http://www.shentech.com/ddts100.html

But it still costs $125
